Hum, yeah that makes sense. AP gauss builds have high DPS and mobility, but are generally on lighter mechs. Better take out the glass cannon first before slugging it out with the heavies.
Yeah, this thing is BRUTAL. Did 832dmg my first match in it. Can core an Annihilator's CT from the rear, from untouched armor, to orange in one salvo. I used a ERML instead of pulse, no extra DHS (you really don't need it), and more ammo. No need for the cooldown either really as the 2sec reload is low enough as is, so I went for max range+max velocity quirks. Baradul is totally correct that you don't want to get to the front first, as players already have learned the hard way to focus ALL THE GUNS on you. 28 Pinpoint from the APGauss, every 2 sec, is to be feared, as you're doing 16 dps *more* than a doubletap from an Ultra AC20, in the time it takes a UAC20 to safely reload, and never need to worry about jamming.
Can’t imagine why it would, for all it has, it takes 14 of them to do okay damage with, and it has the same base range as an IS medium laser. I reckon it’s balanced just fine. I feel like if they nerf it at all now, adding ghost heat or whatever to it, they run the risk of eliminating the weapon as effective altogether.
@@chronoatog5650 I could see that, maybe increase the cooldown a bit or decrease the range a little. I think it’s not terribly overpowered though, as I’ve seen it a lot in recent times, and it just gets melted under any significant amount of pinpoint, or any SRM/Streak boat.
I know, Btech is 1 year older than me, just a funny thought. Last weekend I helped pack some VWE Tesla MkII pods for a convention. Also not everything in Btech has been around since the beginning.
@@r0s3ncr4ntzthis isn’t just BattleTech sir, this is MechWarrior Online, where they’ve made up things because it’s a multiplayer game. There’s a ton of Apocryphal content on top of the canonical stuff, so it very well could be a reference to something.
Brave Sir Baradul ran away. ("No!") Bravely ran away away. ("I didn't!") When danger reared it's ugly head, He bravely turned his tail and fled. ("I never!") Yes, brave Sir Baradul turned about And gallantly he chickened out. ("You're lying!") Swiftly taking to his feet, He beat a very brave retreat. Bravest of the braaaave, Sir Baradul! "Look, Thanatos" (shush, it's only a model!)
Yet another example of the devs breaking their own game. This mech and the PIR are prime examples. If you make APG or MGs ok to use in small numbers (2-4), then mechs like this become monsters and are potentially game breaking. But if you reduce the power of those weapons that these mechs aren't overpowered then those weapons become useless when you use less than a dozen of them. You would think they would have learned from their mistakes with the PIR.
Would love to see a good Silver Bullet build, or at least a good Thunderbolt Missile build. Rocking two SB Gauss Rifles on my Fafnir FNR-5(S) and I'm experimenting with Thunderbolts on the Longbow Spitfire (might try another assault with plenty of missile hardpoints)
Its crazy that suddenly with those C-AP Gauss an Adder has nearly 30 pinpoint every 1,8 seconds. (that faster then the 6 ac5 anni or mauler mx90) ...... but they need like 10x the tonnage for the same damage. Those new Gauss are nuts.
They are exactly the same dps as MGs for twice the weight per gun. Magshot takes twice the space, but same weight as isMGs. So they are iffy. Can generally do better with machine guns especially since lasers pair up with MGs better. These things to not play well with any other weapon.
Well, this is not a MWO problem, rather a BT universe one. Magshots do take 2 dlots most of the time, IS is just ain't is good until late eras in terms of tech
Tried 6 APGs on a MLynx, even saw a Piranha with a bunch of them, both squishy but playable. The problem currently is, that players haven't got the muscle memory to react properly when hit by APGs. I caught myself ignoring first 3 hits as harmless LB2X hits, until my back was open and torso structure red.
@@robertagren9360 Yea ok but same damage range (HMG is actually higher) but with a cooldown, all I was saying is that I am having trouble finding a niche for the new weapons
This is honestly one of the most P2W builds we've ever had. There are some NASTY non premium versions too, but this is definitely the best option by a long shot.
Because it's absolutely impossible to cram 6 small pulse into any other mech? Wat? That's all this is, the equivilant of 6 small pulse lasers. Except this can (and will) run out of ammo. 6 small pulse is 30 damage, in a very short burn time. Easily keep it pinpoint. 14 APG is 28 dmg ppfld. Ever so slightly better fire rate, due to laser burn times. Balances out the damage difference with repeated firing. Hundreds of mechs can do 6 small pulse. One can do 14 APG. Hardly worth gettin yer panties in a bunch over. Especially since 5 med pulse has the same range, and even MORE damage per shot. Make it 6 med pulse and yer going to out dps this thing. I toyed with them on a Viper that had 12 of them. Had to scrape off a lot of armor to squeeze in 3 tons of ammo. It isnt enough to really be considered OP compared to the old stand by favorite knife fighting weapon.
the light mech apocalypse has begun. these guns are way to op the cauldren will tell you they have less dps then a heavy mg and that may be true but these guns dont require the face time and have more range
Micropulse weighs the same but does more damage, same cool down, no need for ammo. MGs do the same DPS, for half the weight. Ammo lasts longer. 1 small pulse is the same weight as 2 APG, and does more damage per shot. Roughly the same overall DPS due to burn time on laser. How exactly is it "broken"? This one mech just because it can boat so many? Every mech than can boat insane numbers of knife fighting weapons is "broken". Whether that be small lasers or MGs or, imagine this, even these. The weapon is fine... it's the boat that is the issue. And no, no boats should be nerfed. They are fun little meme mechs. Keep em for the fun of playing them.
Doesnt have enough hardpoints. And nothing else really meshes well with them. Small pulse is too short of a range, and med pulse is to slow on the cooldown.
@@TauShasla No they wont. The APG requires a lead, so if u fire both lasers and APG together, at a moving target, one of them is going to miss. LMGs are hitscan exactly like lasers. No lead required... if yer laser is hitting, so are the MGs. Thes things just dont mesh well with any other weapon. Micropulse has the same fire rate, but no range. So if yer hoping to stay at range, that wont work... does work if yer getting under their feet tho. Bigger pulse lasers can add range, but then fire rates wont sinc up.
Highlander IIC has a +HSL for energy or laser. I've had good results with 3 beams and a UAC20. The Skoll with 4 Plasma Cannons and an LB20X is looking promising, but I haven't had a chance to playtest it.
There is a set of 8 Nova with 75-85% velocity and 3 energy hard points. REAL Decent for the plasma. Beams, find heat scale limit mechs, like one of the Highlander IIcs. Or something that is just short on hardpoints but has 2 High mounts, and lots of room for heatsinks. Pair them up with some LMGs on the Summoner/Thor for example.
@@ghoulbuster1 They are half the heat of an erPPC and half the weight/damage. They are almost identical to erPPCs per ton (slightly reduced dmg, but adds heat dmg.) A meager 1 point of damage less for 2 plasma vs 1 erPPC and a much faster cooldown. 3 plasma vs 2 erPPC plasma wins on DPS and Heat. Try doing math before you eat yer own foot. ;)
I only know this Mech as a Worthog, i only knew the Ebon Jaguar as the "Cauldron born" before. Can someone explain to me, why these mechs all have so many different names? 😅
I can kill a Kodiak in any light. Nothing special about the Warthog there. A light mech is a hard counter to an assault, always has been and always will be.
@Baradul Hello! With the current event going on, and the free Hero mech of your choice, do you have a recommendation of some unique Hero mechs? I tend to play medium/heavy mechs, almost exclusively IS mechs. I'm wanting to pick something that is unique that other variants don't have. Or very cool quirks that really make the mech stand out. Do you have any recommendations?
Yep, it's a very small (by 'mech standards) weapon designed for use against infantry and light vehicles. It's kind of a funny weapon to add to a game that only has 'mechs.
It's a double weight MG. Exact same dps, for twice the tonnage. IS weight is the same, but they take 2 slots. MGs are better, if you can maintain fire. However, ppfld generally is more useful. Mathematically well ballanced. In practice, probably better than MGs overall.
Impressive and awesome so many people can still have so much fun with it. But ith all these new weapons and changes, I am getting more and more afraid to get back into MWO, only to have my teeth kicked in constantly ...
FLEA-19 with 40CDR would've been too strong with 8 ballistic slots and... 1ton with max speed engines or need to shove it down to 3 T going 100 KPH on a flea. HAHA NERF IT! THE POWER OF 14 MAG SHOTS IS TOO OP- Warthog: *Exists*
That ain't a Warthog!!! Damn, Piranha get it right! Real Warthog from the game addon for M4 is totally a beast tank and killer. This is a light mech of dubious usefulness.
This build is cancer right now. Just fought two battles with a four man squad of these. First battle they were on my team and we won with only two losses. Second game was against them and they won with dudes getting 900 to 1000 damage.
