I definitely think the sugar flower lady is the best. I bake too, and I've tried fondant, it's TERRIBLE. I love that she cares about how it tastes as much as how it looks. Hers was so natural and pretty-looking. Give me a cake like that every single day of my life, and i'll be happy.
You obviously have never had REAL fondant, which is just sugar, water and a touch of corn syrup to help make it pliable. Too many places (especially supermarkets and homebakers) use the prepared stuff that is so loaded with chemicals, it doesn't even resemble fondant.
Fondant cakes can look good, but I don't want to eat it. And when the Fondant looks thick, it ends up looking cheap and dated. Give me a cake that looks clean, pretty and I know will taste great without removing the coating. So based on that, the winner is The Sugar Flower cake.
I don't know where you are getting your cakes, but DON'T GO THERE ANYMORE! Real, true fondant should taste like fresh marshmallows. Too many places (and Wilton) use a prepared product that has more chemicals than sugar and is sooooo far from what it really should taste like.
@@BlueMeaney49 I had a fondant cake for my baby shower and omg!! It was delicious and it really did taste like marshmallows ,I like it better than buttercream
Benny did a great job. You can tell he's an experienced decorator. Clean finish, straight sides, flat top, no cracks, cohesive design, finished on time. Good work!
I'm guessing you have never had real fondant. Do you like fresh marshmallows? That is what it should taste like. Real fondant is only sugar, water and a touch of corn syrup. NO CHEMICALS like the prepared crap.
Yeah but marshmallow has egg white and it is springy because of gelatin. And vanilla is added. I think it tastes very different. The texture, too. If you are guessing they haven't had real fondant you have to say the same about the professional cake artist that doesn't either. Surely she has made it herself! Kinda debunks your theory.@@BlueMeaney49
I've been a cake decorator for 40+ years, and I refuse to do fondant because it tastes terrible. And who wants to make a cake that everyone has to 'peel' before they can get to the good stuff?
Why you all don't like foundant it tastes like marshmallows if you like marshmallows you like foundant if you don't like marshmallows then you don't like foundant
I don't like it when they (professional baker/caker) work on a cake with their hair dangling all over. I understand that this is a show but isn't it nice showing to people who watched and wanted to learn that they care about cleanliness? Just my thought.
I worked in Restaurant kitchens for 36 years, I retired as an Excutive Chef, I always, always had my hair tied up, back whatever! Hair nets, hats scarf additionally. And if I touched my hair or my face, I always washed my hands! Sometimes I couldn't control the wait staff, and the didn't restrain their hair, drove me CRAZY!!!!!!
The modern thing is about looks and rights, not hygiene safety and common sense. Videos like these send the wrong message. I have watched automotive shows besides the cooking shows and hair, jewellery and long hair is in the way and no attention is given to safety. The majority of these shows need to get back to the foundation principles.
I don't like it either. It's common sense. You don't have to be a professional to know that. But, watch Rachel Ray. She always has her hair flopping all over the place. I see it every time.
She touched her hanging hair, then touched the black fondant. Awful. Is there a reason all these cake decorators don’t follow basic sanitary procedures, like hair pulled back and washing their hands?
So many cringe moments! (Lisa) Not levelling the cake, hair touching, not smoothing the buttercream, the fondant wasn't even able to cover that mess! 😵
#4 made two rookie mistakes: she didn’t trim her layers to lay flat and her fondant work needed steaming to give it more polish. For all of the equipment she needs more training.
I cringe at the fact that they were given an hour! 😂 I think the one with the sugar flowers was the wisest in terms of time given. You can simply concentrate on smoothening the buttercream then stick in the sugar flowers. I make cakes and i don’t like working with fondant because it’s so time consuming and it would be risky to rush. Anyway buttercream tastes just as good, if not better.
Amy should do what the customer likes not what she likes, the fondant doesn’t have to be thick & make her own flowers Benny is very Artistic and I love his cake
Benny, then the cake with all the fondant flowers, then the completely white cake (super clean and nice), then the black cake (fondant was cracked and there was cornstarch everywhere).
My favorite were sugar flower & the blue ocean marble cake.😍 The full white cake was BORING but that black & cake was the worst looking, definitely not what we expect from a professional.
Depending on how the fondant is made, it can taste great. The flowers on the butter cream cake were made using a type of fondant. Loved the all white cake, it looked modern & classy.
Mesh on heads, agree. For those who have a “ thing” about gloved hands.... have you tried cake decorating with gloves on because I definitely can not “master” that one?!
On come on people. The sugar flower cake was best because all of those flowers were PRE-MADE before the 60 minute clock. That would "cheating" in a real contest.
I love fruit cake, marzipan and fondant, it's delicious. Especially if the fruit cake has a quarter of a bottle of good rum. So weird how people don't seem to like fruitcake now in preference to dry sponge and gross gooey icing.
American fruit cake does not have rum in it Jamaican Island style fruit cakes have the liquor in them that's why they're delicious.... But they're actually two totally different cakes if you see a traditional picture of an American fruit cake it's square the shaping is a little different as well at least the commercialized one is I remember him when we were kids but the type you're talking about with liquor is actually Island style that's a different cake it has fruits and liquor they let it soak it's traditionally used in some of their weddings as the wedding cake
If they made all the extras within the time frame i'd say the flowers cake was the best. If the last cake used existing flowers on her cake i will have to go with the marble cake for the timed win. Now on with the taste test.
Hygiene laws in the US are quite obviously very different to the U.K. People with long hair working in the food industry are not only required to tie their hair back but also to cover it with either a hat or net.
I like blue cake. Bcz he did so much for given time. One flower cake is too simple. Wedding cake is nice. But she didn't do anything much when comparing to blue cake. &black cake, It should be neat. So the winner is Blue cake guy. 😊
The lady with the one flower didn’t you have to make those ahead of time, so did the guy with the water theme, the little swirls things were made ahead..
