The New York Giants really shouldn’t be good, but Brian Daboll doesn’t care. The Giants started the season 7-2 and made the playoffs at 9-7-1. New York made the trip out to Minnesota in the wild card round and beat the third-seeded Vikings. The Giants are hot ahead of a divisional matchup at Philadelphia. What New York has done this season is nothing short of remarkable. This is a very similar roster to the one that only won four games in 2021. Brian Daboll has completely flipped the script on the Giants and on Daniel Jones. Jones likely had one foot out of the down in New York, but all of a sudden it looks like New York is about to ink, not only him but Saquon Barkley to a long-term deal. The Giants have been one of the biggest surprises this season and New York isn’t done yet.

@albert he's top 10, but might be 10th, maybe 9th. In terms of advances stats like EPA per play he's as high as 6th, the Giants just don't have the personnel around him to throw the ball 40+ times so the counting stats aren't there. Add another solid OL or 2 and get a real #1 WR and the numbers for the offense will explode. Jones is a top 5 QB as a runner and is actually one of the most accurate throwers of the ball in the league.

stop sleeping on DJ bruh. most accurate QB in the league in terms of on target % and they barely used him in the start of the season as they abused SB which limited his touchdowns and he also has a bottom 5 receiving core which only went up a bit bc of hodgins. he’s a top 10 QB and he deserves his respect

I think it’s easy to see who watches giants games and who doesn’t. Daniel Jones in more than remarkable. The fact he was able to get 22 touchdowns with the receiving core that he has shouldn’t even be possible, but he elevates the people around him. He has done the most with the least. Most people can’t name 3 giants receivers now, let alone at the beginning of the season.

I disagree with the point that Daniel needs talent around him to succeed which was proven false by this season daniel was inconsistent at the beginning but once they declined his contract extension that lit a fire under Daniel’s ass and he started to produce and even with lack luster receivers he still made stuff work he’s a top 10 qb and he is talented maybe not mvp type but he’s a good qb and can start on almost any team

I keep saying: a good coaching staff also plays a role with a team's success (and lack thereof with a bad one), but no, sports media keeps insisting "QB-WR deep balls" is the only reason a team is a contender. Props to Daboll for taking what was a mediocre team riddled with draft mistakes into a contender. Imagine what noise the Giants will make if they were not held back by Gettleman's bad draft choices.

Couple things 1) Daboll doesn’t call the plays, Mike Kafka does. 2) Dave Gettleman didn’t fire Joe Judge, the owners did because they also forced DG to retire. Joe Schoen is the GM and he hired Brian Daboll because Schoen was assistant GM in Buffalo prior.

Don’t forget to take into account that Jones put up those numbers this season with basically only practice squad receivers 🤷🏻‍♂️ and Mike Kafka deserves mention and credit too. I always felt as though the biggest issues with consistently losing teams were related to either the GM or the Coach. The NFL is a corporation with multi-billions at their disposal. It’s either the GM can’t navigate the contract/salary cap or he can’t evaluate talent OR both. Then you have the coach who can only coach his scheme or has terrible “in game” situation execution OR both. From what I see, I think it’s more poor coaching than anything else. These GM’s are choosing from NCAA football div.- 1,2 and 3, and that’s not even to mention the other pro leagues, then leagues in other countries. I think what Daboll did was incredible. He adjusted his scheme toward what he had. That’s coaching. Everybody’s got guys that can ball, it’s just how you use them to best accomplish the team goal: win.

To be honest this isn't just a reflection of how good Daboll is but how bad Joe Judge and his staff was. In fairness to Jones he has a lot more ability then just be a starting caliber QB. I mean his rookie year was solid 24 passing TDs and another 4 Rushing and he only i think started 12 games that season, he sat behind Eli for 2 and I think he was injured in another 2. He had a fumbling issue and needed to adapt to pro speed in the pocket. When I watched film of him in the pocket he would always be a second late, so that internal clock just wasn't fast enough.

But you have to look at the two QBs you called inconsistent and realize that they consistently produce better seasons than Jones' best season. Jackson's injury history would definitely give me pause, but Carr has put together something like 7 consecutive good to great seasons. If his receivers would stop popping passes into the air for interceptions dude would be regarded as elite.

They aren’t good, they’re ok, which is still great coaching regardless. 9-7-1 isn’t good, it’s almost exactly average. Going 3-6-1 is atrocious to end the season, especially when the three wins were Indy, Houston, and Washington (Washington had more wins than Indy and Houston combined and was still .500). They made the playoffs though, so that is impressive by itself all told.

I'm a long-time Giants' fan, so I'm used to being cynical, but I don't think this is actually good. I don't fault them for beating the likes of the Titans, Bears, Texans, Colts, and other sub-.500 teams, but I'm not ready to say they are "good". I also don't know if Brian Flores would not have been able to amass a similar record. I'll just watch the games for as long as they stay alive, but I won't be disappointed if they get drilled in subsequent rounds ...

I think the Giants are beneficiaries of what is now a very weak conference. I mean go look at their schedule they played nobody The only team that's actually decent in the NFC is maybe San Fran and Philly but even they are going to get stomped by either KC or buffalo. The NFC is so trash rn
