The charm about Zoey 101 was hands down PCA. The fantasy of going to a school on the beach without parents around was a dream for kids. That is what drew me in so much as a kid.
Yep I’ve always dreamed I’d be able to go to a high school like that. He has a we are the same age so I didn’t have the opportunity to begin with, but it was also good to watch
I would love a Neds Declassified revival that focused on adulthood. Just thirty somethings who don't have it figured out yet and are just trying to survive too. That feels like an organic move to me. When we were kids, Ned's gave us advice to survive school and now he can give us advice to survive adulthood. Side note: I would hate for a Ned Revival to focus on their kids or them being in school. I hate when reboots/revivals do that.
the actors have also said they want to for what it's worth. on the podcast they have they mentioned they've brought it up to nick and keep getting denied/ignored
I think we got a a spiritual sequel, it’s called “100 Things to Do Before High School” same creator, happened inside a school and cosmo and wanda are in the show (i think gordy also was in one of the episodes). But yeah a modern ned sequel can work perfectly.
They chose this over the main cast of Ned's declassified school survival guide who do podcasts weekly or monthly while still having the same energy as they did back in the day
@@guillermosierracuellar9812 yeah it's so off. A group who have shown they know each other still. Have the energy. Have the drive to do a continuation all get nope Hopefully the podcast grows and they demand double pay if they come back begging on their knees for the Ned's declassified reboot.
As much as I'd love that, I would argue that Victorious, Side Hustle, I Am Frankie, The Barbarian and The Troll, Supah Ninjas and The Astronauts deserve a revival more than Ned's. At least the show HAD a proper ending.
@@AJ-xc4qe victorious wouldn't work. Arianna grande wouldn't come back so they already lost star power. The rest of the cast already moved on Rest don't know but honestly it's more about how much we can get the og cast to want to do it rather than just get paid to nostalgia bait
Hot take: Jamie Lynn Spears could never act and was only mildly funny at best, and usually just downright annoying. She was only tolerated because of Britney being her sister and now its suuuuper apparent when they try to sell this as something good. 😅 its also suspiciously convenient that she’s recently been in the media talking about her reconciliation with her sister, as if shes gotta be like “LOOK IM A GOOD PERSON WATCH MY MOVIE NOW THAT SUCKS” 😅 we see through it.
The weird thing is is that this movie got good reviews from the new york times😅 I thought nobody liked Jamie Lynn anymore because of Britney’s conservatorship
She def could not 😂 I remember thinking that out of all the cast members she never really made anything funny happen she only reacted to everyone else being funny
Well yea lol at the time Brittney was still a major figure in pop music so of course they’d push her less talented sister into the spotlight as well not to mention it helped that she looks a lot like her as well
Icarly is working because the cast and writers are on the same page, by that I mean they work together to create episodes that feels like it continues the the story in a realistic and meaningful way. The acting is actually consistently good, at times great even, and when it's great it's really great. The new characters fit well and the returning cast WANTS to be there, making the people laugh, it also is not trying to be exactly like the original either which keeps things enjoyable. I think season 3 especially is so fantastic, like I'm so impressed by the thought and care that they put in, evolving characters like Lewbert and Mrs. B who were basically just running gags in the original, they have paid respect to Sam in Season 1 giving her absence some emotional weight and what she is doing off-screen fits her character perfectly. But the thoughtful way they handled Carly and Freddie in this revival is truly remarkable. So yeah props to everyone involved.
Lots of these reboots fail to justify a return because it’s purely nostalgia bait for a check. iCarly does the opposite and is still a consistently great show. Zoey 102 sounds like a chance to get another check.
Tbh idk what ppl see in the iCarly revival the acting isn’t that great to me it seems more childish than the original & I sometimes don’t know what’s going on in the episodes it’s like all over the place Edit: I recently finished season 3 and the way the season ended (like the last couple of episodes) wasn’t as bad honestly 😭😭it felt better than usual
I stopped watching the iCarly revival after the first season, besides seeing the Lewbert episode in season 2. The show’s lower budget from the original is a little obvious at times, and it’s just missing the same flair. Something about it just feels more washed out to me. And, there was only like 3 or so episodes from season one where they actually showed the web show.
@@prettierjesus3119yes because the web show isn’t the point anymore lmao. It’s about their personal lives, that said the web show is still frequently brought up but not as much because what more can they do? If you wanna see the web show just rewatch the original, it’s not like it doesn’t have 6 seasons, three specials, and a ton of actual web related material…
Jamie Lynn is a horrible human being, especially how she treated fellow cast members like Alexa. do NOT support her and this horrible movie. she just do not deserve it.
@@thekjkjkjkjkjkj actually Jamie Lynn even manipulated her sister Britney into thinking she was being bullied by Alexa which at some point made Britney show up at set and verbally attack Alex. but later it turned out that Jamie was lying and Britney actually apologizd to Alexa for her behavior. you can look that up if you don't believe me.
Yep That's why I'm scared to watch their revival I rather watch icarly's, it was so much better I know Jeanette and gibby weren't in it, but other actors were, lewbert he got rid of his wart, chuck in court, guppy, nevel 🥹 and more
Annual expense reports for Britney’s conservatorship name Jamie Lynn specifically as charging flights, vacation expenses and hotels to Britney’s account. Repeatedly for years. She was an active participant in Britney’s exploitation and benefited from the conservatorship, which is very likely the reason why she never spoke up to get Britney out of it for over thirteen years. If anyone wants to look into this, there is a whole legal community on Twitter that accesses and reviews documents mandatorily turned in to the courts for Britney’s conservatorship. The proof is in black and white that Jamie Lynn is a horrible exploiter.
Honestly, I forgot Zoey 102 existed until you announced it on your community tab. Zoey in this movie is still pining over her high school crush after 10+ years; my friend watching this movie with me yelled “you’re in your 30s, get the f*ck over it”.
This is what happens when networks run out of new material and need something to fall back on. Or when helpless people like Jamie are desperate for money so they come running to the only thing they had going for them. She must need extra money to send her daughter to college.
Thank you for bringing up that Chase and Zoey actually got together at the end of the original show! I feel like this movie and Nick social media are manipulating me into thinking their romantic build up hadn’t actually concluded yet.
They got together at the end of the show, then they did that weird follow up shirt that showed Chase proposing to a different girl only to follow up on the stupid time capsule plot point and then THAT short ended on a cliffhanger seriously what the hell was up with that
@@AnimatedIdiotGuide Exactly! The short also didn't feel like Zoey 101. It felt like Zoey 101 was in the style of the modernized Dan Schneider sitcoms. I didn't like how Dan completely contradicted the ending of the show.
my biggest issue with Zoey 102 is that it’s just so unnecessary. I don’t know anyone that asked for this and once it was announced every reaction I saw to it was neutral or negative. there was no need for this. the show didn’t end in any kind of unfinished way, there weren’t any loose ends, there was no need for this to happen it didn’t add anything to where the show left off.
Zoey fans did ask for it and the movie not met for where the show left off, just to bring the cast back together for the fans. If you don’t like it then just don’t watch it and not complain about it, pretty simple
I didn’t ask for it, but I loved the show in the cast and I’m anticipating to watch the movie. I don’t care if it’s good or bad sometimes the nostalgia part of it seeing these characters as me being the same page as all of them it’s pretty cool.
@@ags4353 "Don't like it don't watch it" is such a braindead, lazy take to me. Like people are allowed to voice their opinions even if it doesn't align with yours
@@ags4353 where did I say I didn’t like it? I just said it was unnecessary. there’s a difference between criticism and complaint. I’m also a fan of the show and surprise I did actually enjoy the movie itself, I just don’t like what it means in relation to the show (ie everything with zoey and chase still being complicated, how stacey treats mark, and especially everything about pca being a scam). I can enjoy the movie and still think it adds nothing of value to the world of the show.
Quinn and Logan carried this movie and honestly I would trade the entire Zoey and Chase plot line to have seen more screen time with them. Their love story was so much better and sweeter imo...and this is coming from someone who was a huge Chase and Zoey fan growing up.
@@therabitoshowrulesi liked the ravioli girl In all seriousness thats probably why they did the movie tho, since they knew the backlash, but they wanted to give the milenials something nice/ish. As much as they could with zoey in this 🙄
They only showed like a good three seconds of her face whenever she talked cause you could notice the rotten lines on her face show up 😂😂😂 like nah show her ass
she had a kid at 16 then another kid later so she just got older and has a mom body she's also 33 so you can't really expect her to keep a prefect body
Jamie Lynn single-handedly ruined that show’s reboot. If she had remained quiet and out of trouble, I believe they would’ve actually given the show the iCarly series reboot treatment.
I can’t rewatch the original series anymore now knowing what an awful person she is. As a kid, I never liked Zoey. After what happened, it seems like that’s because the character of Zoey was literally just Jamie Lynn playing herself
@@superjackster0165I can I thought her character was fine, I do blame the parents more given they raised her to not respect her sister also they have actually visited each other iirc.
If they did a true jackson reboot it would have to solely rely on keke wanting to make a return considering she just became a mom an has other projects going on as well I just don’t see her coming back for a reboot at least not right now
@@astridmyst she may have I mean I doubt she would not be willing to do a reboot of some sort but I just don’t see it happening now with everything she has going on maybe for a special like zoey 102 movie but not a full season show
I still don't get how Zoey 101 got this sequel movie yet Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide hasn't got a sequel yet. It would be cool to get a show where Ned, Mose, & Cookie are teachers for a new generation of middle schoolers giving them tips to survive & we could get guest stars as substitutes.
Or like mister nostalgia said an adult survival guide. I'm 26 years old it's not easy being an adult. It'd be nice to have a Survival Guide, For Us adults
Do you people not realize Zoey 101 was more popular than Ned was back then? Nickelodeon are bringing Dan's shows back cuz all of what he wrote was what made them money. Dan is weird but he did make good shows, that's why they brought back iCarly and Zoey 101
@@TheRealRickGrimes time shifts perspective. Shows and movies that were the "underdog" have become more popular over time. I think that's what happened with Neds. It's becoming more popular now. It especially helps that their podcast is helping to build the Ned brand up more.
The show that I think deserves to come back the most is My Baby Sitters A Vampire. Not only was it cancelled but it ended on a CLIFF HANGER. Arguably the most unsatisfying/unfulfilling ending to any show I ever watched as a kid. However, given that we never got a proper conclusion it would make sense to reboot it and actually give it a proper conclusion. I don't know how good the ratings were but the show still has a pretty dedicated fanbase. I also don't know how the cast feels about a reboot. (Though I'm sure Vanessa Morgan is dying to do anything other than Riverdale) It also was technically a Canadian show which made it have a lot more mature moments than other Disney shows. (Small amounts of Blood, Violence, not-so-subtle sexual innuendos) This means it would be pretty easy to slot the characters in as adults without losing too much of the old show's charm. I also think the lore is deep enough to actually have a good story. It also ended over a decade ago so I feel like enough time has passed. That's pretty much it, sorry if this came off as a rant. 😅
My favorite part about the movie was that they did not pretend Zoey was a likable person. They leaned into the fact that she was relatively mediocre and I think the movie gives her as close to a happy ending as she could realistically get. There are people who are still hung up on high school drama into their adult lives, which sucks, but I’ve seen it. I also like that they lampshaded how pca was barely a school and even integrated that into the plot.
Now that I think about it, yeah, there was a certain charm about that aspect. Here is why I think this movie really worked: The story works very well because Zoey and Chase’s story directly contradicts Quinn and Logan’s story, albeit both couples have a happy ending, but it works! When Zoey says that people say high school love doesn’t last, both stories contribute to that statement, either with contradiction or truth. Hell, even when Quinn calls off the wedding, Chase and Zoey start falling for each other again. The two stories are always opposites (say for the ending)! It’s two different perspectives of the same thing.
Okay I'm a Hallmark movie connoisseur and I would bet money that the script for this was originally a spec script for Hallmark and Hallmark passed on it. I mean Hallmark has at least one money that has a plot of "old flames unexpectedly meet again years later as they're a bridesmaid/groomsman in a wedding and their feelings for each other come back and they also never properly explain why the relationship ended in the first place."
It is very similar to a movie based on a Mexican series called "Soy tu Fan" (I'm your fan). Even the poster it's (almost) the same!!! Obviously many Mexicans noticed and made memes and jokes.
This movie could have been good but it kinda just felt like your average 2008 wedding comedy. A lot of the returning characters got sidelined and zoey didnt feel like the same zoey. I do think some of the actors fell right back into their roles and felt natural, zoey just wasnt one of them.
I always thought Zoey was a Mary Sue in the OG (side note - it bugs me that people will say Tori from Victorious is a Mary Sue when she was a very flawed character. Zoey was good at most everything she tried, solved everyone else's problems effortlessly, and all the guys in school liked her, and most girls wanted to be her friend. Zoey is like the most Mary Sue character in the Schniderverse) ANYWAY, the best thing about this reboot is that Zoey is a screw up of a character lol. I'm sad we didn't see more cameos from old characters. I know Alexa wouldn't come back, but it would have been nice to see Victoria (I read that the actress wasn't available at the time of filming 🙁) and Paul or COCO!!, maybe some of the nerds or teachers. Dana would have been cool too, but I don't think she was ever that close to Zoey, and she was never mentioned again after the S2 E1, so that would have been weird. I'm a sucker for nostalgia bait, but Zoey 102 wasn't what I was hoping for. Honestly though, I was never that big of a fan of Zoey 101. I think it was one of the weakest Nick shows of that era, imo the Malibu setting and the fact that they were tweens living like rich college kids was most of the appeal for me. Not the actual characters or stories. Maybe that's part of my disappointment? The school was kind of a character and all of a sudden, the whole school was a scam? WTF? edit: now that it's been a couple days since I watched the movie, I think the whole concept should have been reworked as a 15 year high school reunion or something. That way the school could have been the setting and there could have been more opportunity for old characters to come back. Not this wedding mess and pretending Stacy and Mark were ever main characters.
you said this perfectly!! this is why i loved lizzie, raven, and wren. because they were flawed and growing up you could watch them stumble and make mistakes and learn and therefore be prepared better to do the same. with zoey, it just felt weird. she was too cookie-cutter perfect. who could relate and learn from that?!
The PCA thing was spot on…I literally only watched because they had this freedom from being at this cool California boarding school that I could only dream of. Now we’re all adults so there’s literally no appeal lol
Isn't is possible both are mary sues in their own right with one being more so than the other? One being a worse mary sue doesn't make the other different.
I had zero clue this movie was happening because zoey 101 was not that important. imo zoey being stuck on a guy for 12+ years is pathetic. like, you didnt even graduate HS, you have bigger things to worry about
I am puzzled that this even happened. Drama aside, the show had made its resolution 15 years ago, but it simply decided to contradict everything just for easy money. When resolution happens, the story should end right there, no need to drag on otherwise the impact is lost and boy did this movie lose everything.
Lol right. Let's be honest though, the creators were NEVER going to ask him to come back. Even though he was actually a good character, none of the fans liked James. They were all still hung up on Chase.
The whole cast of Victorious including Ariana has already said multiple times they would be down to do a Victorious movie because the show never got a proper ending.
i agree that zoey 101 was more popular than ned's declassified, but i would argue zoey 101 has aged worse than the latter. on top of that, the actors of ned's declassified seem to have a large fan following, while nobody really cares about the main actress of zoey 101. sometimes it doesn't matter how popular a show was like 10 years ago, sometimes you have to take into consideration if there is even demand for it, and it's not like they even tried with zoey 102. they might as well have spent that money on a show with a better script. i would have loved a revival focused on a survival guide for adults.
Great comment, I was thinking about that all day. Yeah Zoey 101 was a more popular show technically but Ned’s Declassified was more sought for a revival and aged better. This revival movie could’ve worked if it was released in about 2015-16 before the bullying accusations were revealed and Dan Schneider being exposed as creep.
The only Nick shows that truly deserve a reboot are: 1. Ned's Declassified 2. Unfabulous 3. Hey Arnold 4. Victorious 5. Naked Brothers band 6. Big Time Rush
We don't need Hey Arnold reboot or BTR. They ended everything perfectly. Victorious needs a true ending movie and the only reboot I can that makes sense out of that list is Ned's.
Not sure people are as big on boy band culture as they were when BTR was popular. One Direction was the last big English speaking boy band, and they disbanded several years ago. Now, everyone’s mostly hung up on KPop groups, and boy bands like BTR and The Jonas Brothers that are making comebacks aren’t nearly as huge anymore. I just think the fans of BTR are too old for that sort of show, now. Who would a BTR reboot be for?
I remember loving Zoey 101 as a kid, but I never really liked Zoey. I watched all the episodes (I think?) but I can't remember more than 1 or 2 episodes. I watched every Ned's Declassified for sure and I remember so much of it. It was so memorable and so entertaining, but I agree with the "filler episode" comment. I never sought out the show but always watched Zoey 101 when it was new.
I never saw the original show, but I'm just really loving Jamie Lynn acting like SHE and her daughter are the victims of Britney's conservatorship. Britney was manipulated and basically in a gilded cage for 30 years but yeah poor Jamie Lynn's daughter????
Bro fr. I tried to watch the first 15 minutes of this movie and was just actively rooting for Zoey’s downfall the whole time because I can’t separate the character from Jamie Lynn anymore.
Right. I even heard Britney was actively supporting Jamie Lynn while she was filming Zoey 101 in the 2000s. She was proud of her little sister. It honestly sucks how Jamie Lynn has turned her back on Britney..
@@Allelujah19Well realistically, no one is a saint. I definitely know Britney isn't. However, we can't overlook what Jamie has done. I hate that Alexa was attacked though. I've heard she's been through a lot too.
Considering how huge and popular that show was, it’s really surprising how it never got a series finale. It was just abruptly cancelled with zero explanation
My issue with the movie is they didn’t stay true to the character of Zoey. She was never the quirky goofy one in 101. But in 102 she’s way different. It’s hard to watch knowing Zoey was not like that! She was always the more serious one.
I know this is gonna sound horrible and is off topic but jamie lynn looks like a completely different person. I get that we all have facial changes from childhood/adolescence to adulthood but when I see images from the original show versus now I hardly even recognize her. Everyone else I feel like looks basically the same but not jamie lynn
She looks like she got a nose job and she just aged horribly. Probably karma from how horrible she treated Britney over the past 13 yrs. Jamie Lynn is 2 years older than me yet I look YOUNGER than her! It’s crazy
When I first heard about Zoey 101 reboot, I was excited at first since Zoey 101 was one of my fave shows as a kid but then I realize wait how is it going to work. For ppl who said the iCarly reboot works out because the storyline is still able to work; iCarly was ahead of its time when it first aired. RU-vid started to become more popular, and many teens started to have their own youtube channels. How the show ended with open-ended, goodbye for now. Plus now with the internet being more popular than cable. Influencers becoming more popular than they were back then, and the show works. Zoey 101 is about teenagers living their life as boarding school students, the only way I do see this show working is if they do it with a new generation of kids, like they did with Degrassi. From the looks of it, the original cast wanted to be involved again, acting-wise.
With Degrassi, the original one was in the late 80's and early 90's and then the newer was made in the early 2000's and was on until mid to late 2010's. Spoilers below if you want to watch Degrassi The main character in the newer Degrassi is a girl named Emma Nelson, and her mom, Christine aka Spike was a teen mom. Spike was on old Degrassi and her storyline was the storyline that made Degrassi breakout. The old Degrassi characters made a comeback. Archibald "Archie" Simpson was a teacher at new Degrassi before becoming principal, Joey Jeremiah helps a teen named Craig Manning who's apart of the millennial Degrassi era to move in and escape from his abusive dad, Caitlin Ryan visits Degrassi sometimes as she travels due to her work, and other characters made small cameos too.
I was in the camp that we don't need reboots for already great stuff. There are a lot of shows/cartoons/movies that would do better now of days than they did in the past. Now, seeing Disney and Nick trying so hard to relive the past, it is just sad. Look to the past in order to learn from it, not steal from it. Great video. I was wondering how you were going to get Zeke and Luther into this video.
yes, they need to start remaking movies/shows that had great potential but missed the mark or had poor execution or whatever,it infuriates me that there are so many good ideas that were squandered and that's the legacy forever
I'm in the camp that people need to remember what the fuck a reboot actually is. The new Rugrats show is a reboot. It's different continuity. This Zoey 102 movie is just a fucking sequel.
@@FrenkTheJoywe still have too many soft reboots/ sequels for media that either already had an ending or just doesn't need one lmao. Who really asked for a sequel to Zoey 102 and needed it that badly ?
You're right about EVERYTHING regarding how studios pick which shows from back in the day will get a reboot/revival/movie. Think of it from the perspective of the Power Rangers franchise. There were SO MANY seasons of the series that was far better than Mighty Morphin, but it is the series that gets the most attention because of nostalgia. Considering the amount of toy sales, the recent 30th anniversary Netflix special, comic series, etc. it all boils down to the almighty dollar over story quality. Over the years, I've heard a lot of people wanting a Ned's adult survival guide series. I've NEVER heard anyone mention a Zoey 101 reboot! Personally, I wasn't crazy about Ned at all. I'd change the channel because it did seem like a 'filler show.' However, I appreciate the concept of the show as an adult and feel that it could indeed do far better nowadays in the era of reboots. I didn't bother watching this 102 movie because the trailer felt cringy at times when it came to the Zoey and Chase stuff...
Your first paragraph is really bang on, and can especially be applied to the Disney series of live action remakes. A version of like…The Black Cauldron or Treasure Planet or Atlantis that worked out the problems of the original would rip so hard, but because those movies didn’t make enough money originally, that’s NEVER happening, lol
Some of my favorite Nickelodeon shows weren’t that huge so I know they’ll never get a reboot. How to Rock, Unfabulous, Just For Kicks, Just Jordan, The Romeo Show.
Only one I can see getting a reboot is maybe the Romeo show I would’ve said unfabulous just cause it wasn’t exactly a short run series but because now it’s kinda forgotten about an I don’t think it’s even available to stream anywhere the likely hood of a reboot is pretty slim
I hated how How To Rock got canceled after one season and lasted for just one year. It was pretty good. The theme song, even the songs in the show were bops!
@@rabrencruz99 me too. There was so much left out in the open that could have been explored in a second season. Even the fanfics I was reading were left unfinished haha.
The thing with me I never gotten into the swing of Zoey 101. It seemed more like a Disney show instead of Nick. That with how Ned Declassified keep me more informed and interested.
I am so over this reboot era we live in now. I get it , it's safer to make a reboot or continuation of an already established series but, I also think it should be done more tastefully. You're Jimmy Neutron example was good because I can definitely see it being a show that still has stories to tell. I'm only 28 and most of the stuff I grew up watching has already been rebooted. And I wish that atleast most of them hadn't been touched for profit. I want newer shows and movies. Nostalgia is good I. Small dosages not big sips.
Kinda weird that the pca wasn’t a acreditated school and that it lasted that long maybe a plot hole I mean I thought that the disk golf episode made it clear it was a acreditated school
The first episode also immediately had Zoey’s dad bring up that PCA apparently had some of the best teachers around. Considering its budget and high quality dorm rooms, probably not a low quality school.
He mentioned it in the video. Ariana, Leon, and Elizabeth are all too busy with their actually productive adult lives for that to work, even if the cast is willing. Hope you didn’t hear about what Ariana’s been up to recently. It’s really disappointing.
I feel like the only reason this film was made was because Jamie Lynn couldn't leech off of her older sister anymore, and needed her own money. The Ned's cast wanted to reboot it but I don't think it ever got past an idea.
@@RomaroBrandon I remember they were constantly advertising Jamie Lynn as Britney Spears's sister. Plus, like, Britney was unimaginably famous at that time in a way that modern celebrities kinda can't be. It makes sense why she didn't want to guest star on a TV show for teens while she was doing her tours.
@@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 the only advertisement I saw was her name in the intro. I'm pretty sure she had no control over that, it was probably the executives at Nick or Dan Schneider's doing, and if we're being honest, it's a smart thing to do.
I was obsessed with Zoey 101 as a tween because it was basically Isekai-flavored lacroix for my budding nerd brain. The idea of these teens getting to all live at this crazy cool school/city mix blew my little mind. I’m mostly mad as hell that Ned’s Declassified’s gang has been BEGGING to be brought back and have genuine ideas that have legs that could be a movie or a series, aren’t attached to the Schneider drama or missing cast members as a result of it, and they said nah because they thought people would like this dumpster fire better. I’m not watching this, not only because it sucks, but because Jaime Lynn definitely wouldn’t have signed on for this until the Britney money train came off it’s tracks and I’m not supporting that.
The Zoey 101 reboot sounds like a big missed opportunity. It was my favorite nick show as a kid because of the cool college campus setting and Zoey herself being a cute character. I thought the other characters were all entertaining and mildly enjoyed the romantic subplots, but the school was the whole point to me. If the movie plot had centered around an alumni event at PCA, with Quinn visiting as a genius guest speaker and causing havoc with a failed experiment demonstration, that would have been everything to me. You could show that even though they've all grown up, their old dynamics all fall back into place when they're together. By the end of the movie they could all reflect on how much PCA meant to them, the friends they've missed, and how much they've grown since then. It'd be cute!
a good reboot idea is of some of the characters being teachers. Chase in the movie is already a teacher in Baltimore, so what I would've done is have Chase be transferred to his Baltimore school to PSA for a few years and Zoey, Quinn, Lola, and Michael be teachers and they're teaching the new generation at PSA. The whole "PSA wasn't real" thing was stupid, and they could've used it to their favor.
The only reason Ned is not getting a revival is because no one got knocked up on that set by a producer. And even if that’s not an accurate statement, the whole cast of Ned’s Declassified has said it was a great environment and no one was treated badly on their set like they’ve heard rumors of on others Nick shows. There’s no laundered hush money being funneled toward Ned. There’s no blackmail and secrets being threatened to spill in those pitch meetings.
I love Zoey 101. I used to have a necklace that was a replica of Zoey's key necklace. But I knew the reboot movie was gonna be bad. Mostly because almost all reboots are bad, but also the finale of Zoey 101 is literally perfect so it didn't need a where are they now? type story.
With the lack of closure for the characters on their storylines it feels like the pilot to the sequel show they didn’t have the budget to start this out as. The university used for PCA’s filming location is still operating and if they could do a TV show on campus then a movie shouldn’t be too hard to arrange. PCA was just as much in the DNA of the show as the cast, and not only to lack that, but to have some strange explanation as to why the school infrastructure was destroyed robs the movie of a nostalgia angle. The class reunion plotline is very cliche, but lean into the characters more and let them reminisce about their school days, cameos from other students and teachers, that sort of thing. It’s pandering, but fans of the original would lap it up rather than generic romcom with characters whose names we know.
The last thought about a That Girl Lay Lay revival sent shivers down my spine. I've dumped Nickelodeon long ago after TLOK but I think this does present a bigger problem than just this.
This is a nostalgia nightmare. I hate how people don’t want to even try to make new ideas. Your ending is absolutely true. This nostalgia era of entertainment needs to end and the only way it can is got people to get creative again and think of new ideas
The nostalgia era will only end once we stop supporting nostalgic properties, and consume more high quality original ideas. Currently watching the bear on Hulu, and it’s incredible.
It’s not that nobody is creating original and creative ideas, it’s that companies are too quick to reject them outright or do them in before they really take off. To them, it’s easier to gamble on preexisting material that’s guaranteed to be a hit than to invest in something new. Just think about it: There’s probably a show you like from within the last 10 years that had serious potential but was cut short for miscellaneous reasons.
@@theluigifan1 For sure, it’s just nearly every reboot I’ve seen I’ve thought was a diminished return. After a while it’s like…. Okay we can stop now. 😂 but good point, I feel bad for people who have legitimately great original ideas that will never see the light of day because companies want reboots all the time.
Odd that Zoey 101 pulled a That 70s Show and benched one of their most popular characters in the last season. I will never understand why shows do that.
I think more often than not boils down to the actor’s decision. A lot of times, the actor thought they could have a successful career and film, so they leave the show for other roles.
I remember reading somewhere that Sean Flynn decided to leave during Season 4 to focus on school and then agreed to return in the finale. But I never found any sources confirming this
You’d think the studio would make DAMN certain that they’d get Austin Butler back for a Zoey 101 revival movie. Especially coming off his recent success and an Oscar nomination for ELVIS.
As a screenwriter currently writing a TV Show. I simply adore this video. Thanks Stalgia 😊 I personally think how you write certain shows either makes it or breaks it. And that’s something I’m well aware of when writing my show. One reunion/spin off I’ve seen recently is How I Met Your Father, a sequel to How I Met Your Mother. How I Met Your Mother, in my opinion, included very adult humour, spot-on pop culture references and all-around good storytelling. However HIMYF does have this, but does it poorly, as jokes fall flat and definitely isn’t the type of show that I would watch cozied up late at night in my apartment…unlike How I Met Your Mother. The show feels like a Disney Channel show with just more sexual references, which feel out of place, because the show feels Disney-esque. If you were to apply this to Zoey 102, I think the Movie may feel off because it still has that Tween Sitcom/Disney-esque feeling when it comes to humour and cliches. Similar to How I Met Your Father. Because their audience has grown up as well, they see though the cliches, and I think a real-life functioning adult with a job and bills to pay, would think that it’s unrealistic and cringy. For adults = Realism pays off. Edit: The TV Show I’m writing is a Revival Sitcom.
During the early 2000s, any show that wasn't created by Dan is a filler show. Even with Unfabulous it was overshadow by Dan show. Even with True Jackson VIP it was overshadow by iCarly and Victorious. Nickelodeon gave better promotion to Dan Schneider, even his shows had bigger budget. How to Rock is example of show that had potential but Nickelodeon just didn't do good job of promoting it. When Nick first introduce the show, they really didn't do the show justice. I do rmr reading a lot comments its going suck or the show sounds lame. Many ppl didn't even give the show a chance and they ppl that did, they actually like the show.
As a Zoie who grew up in the 2000s, I was met with the constant: “Omg, like Zoey101?” “Do you watch Zoey101?…WHY NOT?” “You’re spelling it wrong, it should be Z-O-E-Y like Zoey101.” All from fellow kids/tweens for YEARS. I was a very happy child when the show got abruptly canceled, and I felt that same petty happiness in that the movie flopped hard. Please stay in the dirt, Zoey. Yours truly, Zoie. ❤️ Justice for my boy Ned Declassified.
IMO the most soulless part of Zoey 102 was the fact that Michael did not hallucinate. I rewatched all of Zoey 101 after this was announced and was like ooo I wonder what happened after Hawaii
@@daft_j I mean he randomly hallucinated a few times like the very last episode when he learned how to drive. Stir the pasta stomp the grapes. And he also had a bunch of weird things happen like the horse in one of the episodes lol
@@jonas01999ify Fuck, I must’ve misread something! Anyway, most of the weird stuff that happened to him went over my head as a kid minus stomping on the grapes
I would love a college / adulthood version of a Ned’s declassified reboot bc a lotta people that watched the show are at that demographic now and trust I need any college advice I could get lmao
Alexa Nikolas was bullied by most of the cast and Dan Schneider enabled it. Doesn't need to be part of this fake reunion and she's doing just fine. The "Ned's Declassified" cast wanted to do a reboot at first, but I think they prefer continuing their podcast. They even said themselves that they don't like the constant remakes and reboots of Nick shows from 10+ years ago.
Alexa nikolas is also known to accuse her ex husband of a lot of stuff that ended up being not true. She may have went through an awful time on zoey 101 but she’s not a good person either.
@@mrgamerwatch100Idk if I’m the only person who thinks this but it seems like she’s kinda made it her career to be a victim on Nickelodeon. Most people claim to not have seen the abuse. I get people Can antagonize someone and then lie about it but all of them are lying? Also when she talks about other people she is just kinda nasty with how she talks about what ultimately was her 12/13 year old costars who were also being exploited by their parents and the industry. Like they were all little girls… how can she judge them so much for how they were back then.
Mr. Nostalgia, I’m begging and PLEADING you do a retrospective on Disney’s ‘I’m in the Band’. I haven’t met a another soul who remembers this show and I feel like it’s a hidden gem that we lost to soon from Disneys catalog.
A huge draw towards the Zoey 101 finale was the fact that they were ending the show because she was pregnant and 16. So half the viewers were fans & the other half are watching to see if you can see her baby bump or what they wrote for the quick show ending since they weren't expecting it. The finale was such a core memory from my childhood & I loved the show & I had no idea the movie even existed.
You should do an episode on the categories of shows across the three networks (heavy hitters, filler, insignificant). And what made certain shows fall into certain categories
@@makemesomecoffee7821 their audience shouldn’t be modern teens,it’s adults who grew up on the show as teen,I don’t think modern teen would be interested in clone high
Why is it so hard for people to understand what the goddamn difference between "reboot" and "sequel" is? A reboot SHOULD change the plot, dialogue, and trends. A SEQUEL should pick up where the original left off except obviously if it's taking place years later it would make sense for things to be different.
I loved that show. A good few years ago it was on a streaming platform then they took it off and I couldn't find this show anywhere and that's when I realized nobody remembers it
12:45 What about Danny Phantom, El Tigre, or Teenage Robot. All of those have crime fighting and people flock to MCU movies. Also, the creators would like to come back and work on those shows.
Eeeeeeeeeeeh I would not let Butch Hartman have a TV show with how crazy he's acting in the last few years. Teenage Robot though for sure, it still has a lot of fans.
@@windego999 No he hasn't. I'll admit Oaxis was a bad idea but I don't think it was a scam he just bit off more than he could chew. He was also accused of tracing the art he was selling when it wasn't
I liked zoey 101 but I think I liked Ned’s way more bc they were just regular kids. Zoey 101 we’re all rich kids at a bording school which was in relatable to most of us.
The producers made the mistake of focusing ONLY in the Zoey 101 final episode numbers, which were great at the time, but a lot has changed now. It’s interesting to see that because while you can see the Ned’s cast doing the podcast and receiving a lot on love on social media, half the original cast of Zoey is either forgotten, don’t want to participate in the 102 and even the protagonist is kinda cancelled due to the controversies with Britney
Now I didn’t watch Zoey 101 when I was a kid. But we’re people really asking for a reboot/movie? I’m on the internet all the time and I never seen anyone talk about it.
I liked Zoey 101 as a kid, but honestly, I don't really care about the characters as much when I look at other Nick shows like Drake & Josh, Victorious, iCarly, Ned's Declassified, etc.
Dana, Lola, and Dustin were mentioned. Nicole didn’t get a single reference. Obviously Alexa would never be on anything Nick related after what she went through.
I’m getting tired of these rewatch podcasts… after a certain point they stop talking about the show and just b*tch about how the other cast members don’t want to be on and shading the studios for not reaching out to them about a revival (which is ruining all of their credibility), and if you can get a podcast going you can technically make your OWN revival if you had the right people working with you. Sure it wouldn’t have the production value of the original but at least you’re not sitting behind a computer complaining about how WASHED UP you are. These rewatch podcasts and revivals are going to kill each other within a year to the point where nobody will be paying attention to them.
@@FrenkTheJoy they could technically, they’d just have to change the title and make it more of an individual production. They did it with Drake and Josh before. For example, If they wanted to bring Boy Meets world back again (since they have a podcast) the cast could get a crew together and make a short film for RU-vid about Eric, give it a different title, have the story be centered around Eric and include a few other cast members, sure it’s won’t be considered canon by the studio but the fans get to decide that.
i feel like they could’ve used everyone else from high school being successful and moving on a reason for zoey to realize that as well and the majority of the movie could’ve been zoey overcoming her struggles, growing as a person, becoming successful, and realizing that she never liked chase she just liked the idea of him again
I feel like they would've had better luck if they had just done a reunion comedy movie without the Zoey and Chase dynamic. They could still have them broken up and dealing with the awkwardness of seeing your ex, without the "will-they-won't-they" bull crap. Studios under estimate how much we want to see the same characters in DIFFERENT situations
As a kid Zoey 101 was okay, wasn't one of favorite shows like iCarly, Drake and Josh, etc but one revival I feel would be awesome and actually needed would be victorious because it never got an ending.
I'm a huge Zoey 101 fan, so read what I have to say Zoey 102 in my eyes is 50/50. The Characters were the highlight of the movie, I loved all of them. The Wedding was great, but everything else? Fell flat. I don't care about Zoey's job and those characters; it took up airspace. Now Victoria Justice wanted to be in it but she had other things going at the time, she is still close with the cast. Paul Butcher (Dustin) Despise Zoey 102 and some of the cast. The real crime is Alexa, Jamie and Britney attacked her. With all this drama going around and finding out about Dan Years later; people didn't care anymore. I'm glad they talked about the Hawaii trip and what went wrong. Having the wedding and PCA was perfection. Yet finding out it wasn't a real school and the Dean took the money to gamble? Killed the show if you watch it now. Zoey 101 was a high standard for Nick and it has crashed so hard to what it is now. Nick has lost it's touch after the second Golden Age, the 2nd Golden Age was D&J, Zoey 101, iCarly, Victorious and BTR. I knew Nick had nothing left after BTR. Also the ending of Zoey 101 is fine not perfect but it was still a good ending. What Nick should of done was Get Ned a reboot like iCarly but for adults, would make them money. People are still waiting for a true ending for Victorious but getting them now will be very hard and won't be cheap. I'm glad I was a kid in the 90s because both Nick and Disney were top tier now they are nothing but a hollow form of their former selves.
the only one we needed was Lizzie McGuire which was in the works but fell through unexpectedly, but let’s be honest the movie was soo good and who didn’t want to know what Lizzie did after HS? She literally performed in Rome, Italy with her famous doppelgänger Isabella 🤭
I’m really disappointed that was canceled. They had actually shot like the first 3 episodes. If I remember correctly, what happened was that Disney didn’t like the tone that they were going for and wanted them to make it all family friendly. However, Hillary Duff, the cast, and the crew refused since they wanted it be more mature since the kids who watched the show when it was on were now adults.
Unpopular Opinion but Zoey 101 was always boring to me and I never got the hype. I would have gladly took an Unfabulous reboot movie over this. But Jamie pushed for it and got her reunion movie so kudos to her despite my annoyance.
I feel you on this. If you look past her toxicity, Jamie Lynn was a terrible actress. Chase, Michael, Quinn, Lola, Nicole, Logan and Dustin were the only reasons people watched the show. Also, i forget how did unfabulous end? It's been a while.
I know I’ll probably have a lot of hate for it but I’ve always thought I Carly was overrated and just absolutely boring as well and truth be told I think I watched zoey 101 more when it aired then Carly
@@ralphwiggum1982 Heyy, finally found someone who did not get into ICarly! No offense to the show though - it did feel a bit overrated. Miranda I felt was better at being the conniving snake Megan in Drake & Josh.
@@USCena yea I tried numerous times to get into it when it originally aired I even watched a few of the reboot episodes and I just couldn’t see the appeal of it I’m not sure if it’s cause I felt like they tried to hard with the jokes or what but Its just not my cup of tea
@rachelmartin5187 yeah I never was here for Jamie coming to Nickelodeon during that All That revival. I knew she was only being put on because she was Britney's little sister (which they kept advertising). But yeah when I did watch I only liked the supporting characters because Zoey was such a Mary Sue. I guess how people felt about Tori on Victorious is how I felt about Zoey. But at least Victoria could act. Like you said Jamie was terrible. She was better on Zoey than All That, Comedy wasn't it for her and Zoey as a boring character was much more up her alley. But I think Unfabulous ended with a tv movie.
I loved Zoey 101. But the movie gives me “I peaked severely at high school & never truly moved on”. Also, with how Britney Spears was poorly treated by Jamie Lynn Spears & family. It’s something I don’t think I could support. Jamie manipulated & very abusive towards others. Zoey, babe..it’s been 14 yrs. Chase isn’t interested if he ghosted you for YEARS! Jamie needed the movie so she could make money because Britney isn’t paying her bills.
Drake situation is just so hypocritical since Matthew Underwood (Logan actor) has charges for drugs and also “related” to a minor and Michael actor for domestic violence
