I have some major respect for Sloan on this show. I mean she's liked Don for a while and not once has she done anything to ruin his relationship, give him bad advice or anything. She even helped Maggie with some issues. I think that is just so classy
i think its yes n no, decent people would convince them to leave them in a passive way. what i mean is that if blame could be placed they place it on their side (meggie in this case) well glorifying don and maintain a shoulder to cry on. basically subconsciously adding conflict with meggie and comfort from them while sloan seems to be very conscious of her feels and controls them well
You know this world’s standards for women are fucked when simply not attempting to sabotage someone else’s love life is considered a great act of courtesy.
Olivia Munn is outstanding in Newsroom. I hope we see in future material that is as smartly written. She plays a brilliant women perfectly. That is something you just can’t fake.
Sometimes you chose the person you feel safe asking...not the person you dreamed of asking. This is women put such an emphasis on a guy having strong self esteem. Feeling 'safe' with someone, in the end, will never be enough.
Lizzie.Kramer, you're right: this WAS the scene that changed everything. When they say, how can you tell? Nonverbal expressions do more talking than verbal expressions. Sloan and Don wanted to become a couple in this scene...you can just tell by watching their non-verbal's.
How is this good acting? I can't get past the fake-ness. Their emotions don't sync with their facial expressions, the scripts are too slick, and it all seems so rehearsed.
Sorry, if I had the choice between the girl who plays Maggie, and Olivia Munn....Olivia Munn wins, hands down. I would ask her out just for the chance to be turned down.
DukeFan1971 yeah but that's only because you think she looks hotter than Maggie but the truth is that Don loved Maggie but he did actual feelings for Sloan at the time.
I've always enjoyed Don/Sloan scenes, but never really thought of them as a 'THEM' together until this scene. I was totally hooked. Here you have two of the most interesting characters (both kind of awkward/outspoken/blunt in their own way) maybe at the very start of 'something' . There is some kind of crazy chemistry between the characters/actors. I like when Don said she had caught him off guard and then couldn't remember why he'd asked to talk to Jim. Both OM and TS really sold this scene.
FawneB they weren’t both awkward, they are both presented as highly intelligent. They may seem “ awkward” to someone who isn’t very intelligent tho....
Wow! The simplest of moments (& words) can still have the most profound effect...at least on me..." just ("simply") ask them out" huh?...okay, you got it
No my friend. Remember the lyrics from that song,"I just died in your arms tonight, must have been something you said"....WOW!!!!!!!!! Great little love story...
I like this scene. Those 2 have a lot of respect for each other. I love the one where Sloane revenge punched and kicked her ex boyfriend right in front of his coworkers. And Don was with her. I replayed that over and over.
But he didn't and doesn't love Maggie! He was in love with the IDEA of being in love with her but the number of times that they broke up should confirm that there's no true love between them, just mutual emotional deceit.
"knows how to write", on what basis do you say this? The dialogue of these characters is wholeheartedly unrealistic. Too fast, too intelligent, t0o quick witted.
@b1itsjustme He's often wrong, as rewatching THE WEST WING in 2020 makes obvious. ("Both parties love this country and everyone is trying to hard to help the people, they just have honest disagreements..." LOL)
And we have here four unhappy people because no one wants to be honest about what they want and what they feel. I was really shocked when Sloan opened up to Don.
The dynamic of them two was pure bliss seeing come together and watch. You never see it coming but their energy and IQ go hand and hand, and it’s beautiful.
She tells him it's a bad idea for him to be with Maggie, then chains him to it by publicly announcing that he's moving in with her - when he hadn't asked her yet. That really soured the touching reveal that she likes him.
"...when people think you're batty, you can learn a lot about them..." Laurel Holloman's line from the movie "Loving Jezebel" that seems so appropo in this clip. Sloan is smart. Very smart. People however think she's a flake because she's socially inept. She however comes up with some of the deepest observations about people she works with. She's the 2nd best character in this show (after Will McAvoy) and it's a crying shame that the show will end after this season....
The guy who likes the girl who the other guy is dating but might not like walks in right as the other girl tells the other guy she likes him. And then the guy stumbles over his words trying to be polite. I love how awkward Jim is.
She said it in a tone that implied she thought people were dumb for thinking it because she thinks that they thinks borrowing more money is all there is to it when she knows it's not as simple as that
I don't have HBO, but I do like what I see of the clips found on RU-vid. I realize it makes for good drama, but how anyone could ever pick Maggie over Sloan is just unfathomable.
The heart wants what the heart wants. Sloan is drop dead gorgeous, no argument here. But if you want someone else, all the Sloans in the world don't matter.
Take the lesson from Olivia : "Good guys don't go with the hottest girl". But in that scene, hottest girl is also a genius and also romantic soooo... yeah, go with the hot girl.
Cause and effect backwards there. The budget precedes the debt ceiling limit. Yes, of course the limit and the debt go up together--because when Congress decides to spend even more money, they have to authorize a debt ceiling increase afterwards to pay for it. If you want to stop government borrowing more money, you act on the budget. If you want government to borrow more money and then forget to pay money it already owes, you act on the debt ceiling. Simple.
this was such a moving scene. Despite the whole "tell don't show" mentality behind it, I think it really nailed what it needed to. Then, in the new season, Don says he "took it as a joke." Look at that face @ 3:15. He didn't take it as a joke. I can't decide if that's bad writing or really cool character development...
Even if a woman really likes a guy she wants to feel wanted by the guy asking her. Problem is that most guys, myself included, think that they have no shot with an attractive woman so they never ask.
Reason yea but guys have the right to be afraid to have their heart broken. Most people ask each other out for the sole purpose of saying I am in a relationship but then there are the few which ask others out because the truly like them
This was a way more interesting relationship than that blatant Jim and Pam rip-off or Will and Mac's constant yelling to make you think they have chemistry nonsense.
I would never feel intimidated by such an intelligent person. I wish my partner could be like that in the future. Genuinely smart without arrogance or narcissism.
Olivia Munn is my dream woman..And to see any man not ask her out knowing she likes you is beyond my understanding. The woman is a 11 out of 10. Fine all over.
The take on this is she was testing too if she was right if he was a nice guy or not bye saying 'you never asked me out " too see what he would do too help him see if this was the right thing to do bye letting the woman move in with him too see if he had the Love and commitment for the other woman. All in all she was right he was a nice guy and was wrong about not having the Love for the woman.
The debt ceiling refers to how much debt can be issued and in no way affects "borrowing more money." Congress passes a budget, which is LAW, and in there details how much spending will take place, how much revenue will be raised to deal with it, and the difference being borrowed to cover it. The borrowing is set in stone then, a law that can only be changed by a new law. If the debt ceiling isn't raised, borrowing continues unabated, but to compensate the government defaults on old debt.
God damn could you imagine your beautiful friend turning around and telling you this. Guy: Hey can I have some advice on moving in with my girlfriend? Girl: Sure, what’s up? Guy: How would you want a guy to ask you? Girl: I would love it if he said will you marry me. Guy: Thanks not helpful I am not ready to commit that much because I really don’t love her and I don’t wanna seem like a bad person for leaving her because our feelings aren’t super strong. Girl: Oh well you could stop pretending to be a fake nice guy and do something really bad and dump her ask me out for dinner tonight meet back at “our”place and call in a sick day tomorrow. Guy: ... Girl: just a thought.
..epic scene.. Sloan is such a queen ❤ but this Jim Don exchange makes me cringe every time.. and Jim's face when Sloan blurts out..'they're moving in' ..omg.. 🙈🔝good acting! all of them.
..."because you never asked me out". What's the point on being in a relationship with a girl that aint brave enough to take responsibility for her feelings?
