Totally agree with you, I’m a retired Police officer of 30yrs(Don’t Judge, as you say!!) that was a career for life. I now work at a large senior school doing maintenance, and I am totally shocked by the lack of basic life skills being taught, we had to put up digital clocks in the exam rooms as there are students who cannot tell the time on an analogue clock, and these are sixth formers, what hope have they got !!

No judgement here, I used to work a job where I got out with the police, mostly a good lot 😉 The job had changed a lot though in the last 20 years! I totally agree, it's a weird world we live in. No life skills, no one is able to change a tyre or rewire a plug. I've got friends that cannot plumb a washing machine or put up a shelf and that's just madness in itself as far asI'mm concerned...not being able to read an analogue clock though is on a different level lol 🤦‍♂️

The US is going through the exact same thing with the trades. But sounds like that guys should pay more and be grateful to have an employee!

Yeah I agree. Ive seen Chippy jobs being advertised for £12 an hour which is just ridiculous. We have a serious wage problem in the country. I speak to guys in the US and the absolute rock bottom that they are paying someone to sweep up is $20. Good chippys are on $60k with a truck and health. I know this varies around the country but compared to the UK its ridiculous...especially when you take into account the lower taxes and cost of living out there. I dont think it will be long until there is a huge shortage, especially when the older Gen starts to retire out.

Cannot find decent labourers for 20 an hour in Sussex , I just work myself now no labourer , use lift and shift equipment to move materials now

That's interesting, its hard to find good labour at the moment, its such a shame! If we dont find a way around it then things will be a right mess in 10 years time! Im just lucky Ive got the Mrs and shes happy to graft!

@@TheNaturalWorkshop It could also be partly to do with Sussex as the younger generation here seem soft as fudge , had one guy stroll up to the van in the morning with shorts and flip flops on

🤣 wow...thats mad mate lol. I know there are a lot of guys/gals out there who dont want to work and who can blame them really. We would probably been the same if we lived in the same sort of world but its such a shame. I know manual work is graft but its extremely rewarding when done right. We need to figure out some sort of solution though for sure.

Mate this generation has is lazy compared with my generation and i was speaking to an old gentleman and a veteran from the second world war an uncle and his idea of the youngster of today wouldn't be able to coop with what he went through . They just want to sit on their asses with a computer game. Makes me laugh he does and he is getting on for a 100 with a very sharp mind

I have no doubt mate, my daughter's generation are really going to struggle in the real world. Its going to be hard for them, that's for sure!
