Our Story:
We are Carissa, Iwan & Frankie the sausage dog, and in 2020 decided one night over a bottle of wine that moving from North Wales to Portugal would be a good idea. Within a month we were on the road to Portugal to find the perfect piece of land to call home. We picked up Albi, Joao and Simao the cats along the way, as well as Diogo the podengo and a flock of chickens.
Subscribe to follow our project as we turn an old stone barn into our home, and learn the ropes of looking after a piece of land to make an abundant garden and one day, our very own winery.

If you put two rows of building blocks under the shed walls, it will be much easier to stand up. You can bolt the shed to the blocks.

Yes, I agree that's good for when it's moved to a permanent location. Under the door's I'd suggest a wooden panel hinged at the bottom so they can lay it down for wheeling things in and out, or leave it up and step over it.

I agree. I have a tin shed like this and I put it onto a base of cinder blocks and it is very comfortable to move around and find things and such. Yes, I have to step over the threshold at the door. But my carts and things are light enough to easily lift over.

If you built a wall of breeze blocks and cemented the top you could have built the shed on it and added as much height as you wanted. ❤ you can still lift the shed to the side while you build the wall. One trade off is you would have to step into the shed but its a good trade of for height and comfort. ❤

The same foundation you used on your sleeping cabin would be the best for keeping the water from running into and under the shed. The ground level is too high around the shed and unfortunately will wash out your new laid pavers set in sand.

I am really a fan of this young humble couple. So relaxing to watch you. Two points on this green shed, 1)Your floor is lower than grass/earth level, have you considered any risk of water entering the area? All what you will place on the ground may get spoiled. At least use silicone around the steel bottom frame? 2)during strong winds, this structure may sway considerably cause it's so light. To prevent this you may place plastic 1.5liter bottles full of water on the roof (better with 5 liter bottles, right above the steel girders underneath).

Well done with the shed. Re the flagstones. As you have laid those on loose sand, you'll need a retaining edge (concreate, timber frame, piled dirt) to keep the sand of the edge stones drifting out and causing those stones to become loose and rock or tip. Re the height issue, Use breeze blocks to lift the shed if you need more height (refer to St Nick who understand block work for what would be best in your case). Re the shower boiler, if you have more water pressure than the boiler can manage, fit a valve (tap) inline to the water feed to the boiler, then just regulate the pressure (turn the tap offish) until the water entering the boiler is at the correct pressure it can handle. I hope that helps, D

SUGGESTION TO MAKE DIGGING MUCH EASIER...EVEN FOR A WOMAN!! Years ago I worked for a plant nursery where hey grew ornamental shrubs. They had the guys who dug them up sharpen their shovel edges with a file to make a knife like edges. I was even able to dig easily. Of course you always lay your shovel blade down and also hang them with the blade toward the wall as they are very sharp.

Great job on the shed! We assembled a similar one and it is still standing strong after 2 years, and you did a better (more patient) job than us. You need to gather some St. John's Wort and make an infused oil. I saw in a video from last year that you have some around and now it should be flowering. It is a powerful wound healing oil, perfect for those cuts. It is also a strong antidepressant but that's another subject. Keep it up, you are doing such an amazing job! ❤️
