Before the grass seed gets planted and while I have a blank canvas to work with, I completed a soil test on the front lawn. I like the test kit from Rx Soil and used it again to get a roadmap for my future front lawn.

For anyone who doesn't care about ultra precise soil texture results: look into the mason jar test. You basically just fill a mason jar 1/3 of the way with sifted soil. Fill the rest with water. Put the lid on and shake it up really well. Leave it alone for 48-72 hours to let it all settle. It will settle into layers of sand, silt, clay, and organic matter from bottom to top. The proportions of each layer is the amount of each that you have in your soil.

My soil varies quite a bit from the front to back yard. Growth habits are different as well. Good info here Ryan

I know it might be a pain but it would be awesome if you made a couple videos going over all the liquids you sell. I just renovated my lawn and put down your elite rye and might try liquid fertilizers this year, so far I have only ever used granules. Thank you for the content it has helped a lot!

Your pretty much set on soil although not surprising your in farm country they make sure everything is ideal for the crops to give them the most amount out of them

Ryan I used my New Scotts dual spinner spreader.......I think I miss my first generation Edgeguard DLX....... it Spread very even and was lighter!!!!!!!! Maybe it was the Stonewall I put down but was hard to see it spread!!!!!(width).

Question. I have similarly high iron values but very low on 4 other micros (S, Zn, Cu, B). All micronutrient solutions I’ve found include iron. Should I be concerned about adding too much iron when applying a general micro booster such as Simple Lawns Solution Micro Booster?

Sooooo question… I put down fertilizer & seed in some spotty areas here in MN last week Friday… than it snowed on Sunday. How bad is this for my seed ?? Did I waste it 😫

Ryan I have a question, If I’m noticing spots in my lawn recovering from the winter better than others (longer, fuller, darker green). Could this be an indication of soil compaction in these less than desired spots? Or being that I’m in Michigan and we just now are getting warmer temps, is it too early in the season to call it compaction?
