Your presentation of v12 is so much more enthusiastic (and helpful and awesome and better) than those of... other popular Foundry nerds. It's a very good day, and there's nobody else I wanted to hear from more. Thanks for all the videos! 🤘🖖
I recently started playing Dnd and even more recently started learning how to use Foundry to DM for my friends. Your content has been such a lifesaver and a joy to watch. I am a total beginner in everything dnd/vtt and your videos have let me dream big. I can't say thank you enough for your dedication to the community and to newbies like me! I have such a deep appreciation for all the information you provide! Thank you, thank you, thank you!
In all the major version upgrades they have down under the hood improvements that make the architecture better and improve performance. Foundry is really good at making their software better over time.
Thanks for the recap; appreciate it. I just about finished upgrading my game from DND ver 2 to 3 and I want to cry cause I'm about to do it all again for Foundry. HAHAHAHA
You’re welcome! I’d hold off on updating Foundry to v12 at least for the next 2 months because there will be several updates to Foundry during that time which will fix bugs, and many modules will also update to work with v12.
Yeah, but the build now has largely stabilized for minor changes in semver being solid.... so its not the patches, its the compatibility for your current modules you use. NOW... changing between GAME SYSTEM Versions... that'll screw you up pretty quick.
Honestly, really looking forward to being able to have my players start the combat music when we start combat so it's one less thing for me to remember.
I am excited to see where it goes. v12 and the DnD5e partnership. I hope they will eventually get some sort of dndbeyond native integration. maybe not the books as they would lose money on purchases but maybe my dice and characters? idk.
I think an official DnD Beyond integration is very feasible now with the official partnership! Having character sync between both platforms would be a great official feature
Updated to v12 and it immediately broke everything, which I kind of expected, but it broke even more than I was expecting. Pretty much all modules are doneskies (even the really popular ones like Levels/Monk's stuff) which... Yanno, expected. But even the core system is broken in a lot of ways: Can't place lights, can't adjust text drawings without having to restart entirely, etc. I'll probably update once the "stable" release is actually... Stable.
Yeah that is to be expected. Were the core features broken when you had broken modules active? Keep in mind that if you had broken modules active while trying core features, the broken modules might've been breaking them. Because I had no problems with core features without modules active. Also if you have many modules active, there might be just a small amount of modules that are breaking a lot of other modules. If you want to troubleshoot the modules causing the issues, try using the Find The Culprit module to find the modules that are broken.
i wouldnt mind updates if they released a dam tutorial video for each update. im not aware that they do. i have to relearn everything with every update.
Thanks as always. Quick question as it’s been a minute. For the tokens that have multiple images / art (like wild shape or tactical view vs portrait style) is that built in or de we still need wildcard token images and other modules ?
That's *my* impression (as another Foundry nerd with the same question). One difference that I really like about this "regions" business is it bypasses the need to work with tiles. I'm sure other people feel precisely the opposite way, and will keep using Monk's approach (and module). Or, maybe better, use both. Each where it applies best. I imagine IronMonk is going to add more Tile Trigger features (maybe even leverage regions the way he did tiles - making all sorts of new magic). Whatever happens, we all benefit :)
hey guys can anyone help me please. right now im using Roll20 but want to switch to foundryvtt. I use my own set of rules with self made character sheets in excel etc. Is it possible to create like an own sheet in foundry with macros in the sheet? and which system should i install then? because right now my friends have to switch between the excel and roll20 and then just roll the dice there. i tried to install for example D&D but the initiative there is rolled with d20 but in my game i use d6. so basicly what i want is to "copy" my excel into foundry and choose fields when players press on it a dice will be rolled.
This sounds like a pretty specific setup. If you don’t need the systems of DnD, then you could install the Simple Worldbuilding game system to make your own custom setup. If you need further help, I recommend going to the Foundry VTT Discord server and asking help there.
I hate slick UI -- give me a clunky UI that has all the features in File | Edit | View | etc menu explorable trees like an app from 1998. Then I can find all the features and play doesn't grind to a halt when a player doesn't know to press some button on their keyboard. Then, if I've mastered the hot-keys, I can press Alt+Enter to toggle the clunky UI off when I want to.
I think that would need to be implemented on a game system level and at least for DnD there is a better chance for that to happen with DnD officially being available on Foundry.
