North Carolina running back Ethan Horton was one of the best players coming out of college. And he was crossing his fingers that the Detroit Lions wouldn't draft him, because Detroit was too cold of a city. This is the story behind that, and why his logic made no sense whatsoever

You mentioned how the 1985 NFL Draft had two players that struggled with geography in Ethan Horton and Buster Rhymes. Another interesting commonality with these two players is that after they were drafted the next pick was a hall of fame WR. After Eathan Horton was picked the 49ers picked some guy named Jerry Rice. After Buster Rhymes was picked the Bills picked some guy named Andre Reed

This isn't too surprising. Just last year a reporter asked Todd Bowles if the Buccaneers had any strategies for playing a playoff game in the bitter cold of Detroit, and Bowles had to remind her that the Lions play indoors. For the record, Detroit hasn't hosted an outdoor football game since Thanksgiving Day, 1974.

You ABSOLUTELY NEED to do a longer video on the Marcus Allen/Al Davis situation. Allen was my favorite player as a kid and it kind of angers me to hear some of the criticism of Allen for not replicating 1985 again when a good deal of the reduction in his production was a result of Davis purposefully reducing his production to stifle his career. He still went out and blocked his ass off as an extremely undersized fullback when called on because he was the quintessential team player. I'd greatly appreciate that and I think it would be a huge success in terms of viewership.
@matthewdaley746
@matthewdaley746 5 месяцев назад
He's the only player in the history of the NFL who had their career extended because their owner benched them out of, spite, it's truly a complicated situation, what Al Davis did was horrible, OTOH, there's no way he lasts as long playing like a normal RB, it simply doesn't happen, it's absolutely impossible.

Don't be, so, sure, in 1991, they very, likely, would have gone to the SB had they not run into an invincible team from Washington, and, adding insult to injury, that very same team barely made the Playoffs in 1992, and, had completely fallen apart by 1993, sometimes you only get one shot, and, your best, tragically, isn't good enough.

I remember when John Elway refused publicly to play for the Colts at the time and his sense of entitlement did not sit well with NFL fans initially , and I can imagine Colt fans probably never did forgive him and deservedly so. Ethan was a great college back, not really sure why he didn't successfully transition to the NFL game as a running back.
@matthewdaley746

Sadly, he never, remotely, lost that sense of entitlement, after SB 32, you'll notice something in, re-airings, he never lets anybody else, so, much as touch, The, Vince Lombardi Trophy, despite, doing next to nothing in that Game, as a result, it now goes through a receiving line before reaching the podium, that Game was, John Elway In A Nutshell, The, Perfect Teammate, (until he wasn't).

The '85 draft was a historically awful one for RBs. How awful was it? Herschel Walker was the only one in the class with over 1950 rushing yards for his *career.* Doug Flutie had more career rushing yards than all but one other RB drafted that year. Naturally, my team came into this draft in desperate need for RBs.
@matthewdaley746

There was another Raiders running back (well, technically fullback) that shifted to tight end during his time there. However, that particular player was still on the team when the conversion happened, which allowed him to keep his old number (#46), unlike Horton, who was cut from the team as a running back (#23), then was resigned as a tight end (#88). And, yes, JG9 did a video on that particular tight end which I will link below... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ttu0gyGieLo.html

Let's forget about the fact that the Lions play in a dome for a second. He's apparently refusing to play for the: Patriots, Giants, Jets, Eagles, Steelers, Browns, Bengals, Bears, Packers, Commanders, Ravens, and Chiefs, Thirteen of 32 teams, or 40% of the teams are a no-go based on playing in the cold late in the season. Given that the Vikings and Colts also play in domes, he probably feels the same way about them too? Up that figure to 47%, almost half the league. Of course, any Southern/West Coast team he plays for will probably have late-season road games in those cold cities too. May I suggest he look for a different line of work?

KC significantly warmer in the winter? Nope, and I'll tell you why. The cold zone drops all the way to North Texas in the winters, the ultra cold zone in the winter is the Northern Planes through Minnesota, and parts of Wisconsin. The Great Lakes protect, lower Mich and the Detroit area in particular from the ultra cold winters. So due to geography, Detroit would be pretty much the same temp avg as KC is in the winter.

That would be like being drafted by the Patriots and feeling relieved that the Colts didn't draft you instead due to cold weather. The Colts don't even open Lucas Oil Stadium's roof late in the season for obvious reasons.
