Nhl news today - after the ottawa senators jake sanderson contract extension was signed yesterday , I think the atlantic division nhl highlights will be intense this year between the toronto maple leafs montreal canadiens boston bruins detroit red wings florida panthers all in that same division. Brady tkachuk and tim stutzle lead the way behind thomas chabot jake sanderson claude giroux and more ottawa senators news nhl training camp 2023 opens in less than two weeks and preseason games a little bit after that. Keep it tuned on johnny hawkey this hockey season for nhl news trades and rumors , ranking and top 10 list videos as well as covering funny moments like mic'd up , reactions and maybe some nhl 24 . Also want to do podcasts and player focus on connor mcdavid sidney crosby auston matthews and others. Nhl 2023

Not to mention the Ray Emery vs everyone and Brian Murray vs Lindy Ruff game lol. The Sabres fans were also more intelligent and classy than Leafs fans, so it made the games actually fun to be at. Tkachuk vs Thompson in a playoff series is going to be must watch tv.

What lol😂. So third "Canadian" team? That means nothing, they could literally be your 28th favorite team in the league. Also, just those 3 players? No Chabot ( who's better than Sanderson), no Giroux, no Brady, you don't even mention their biggest question mark....Korpisalo. @@scottmiller8617 Why are you saying OUR if their not even your second Canadian team. If you mention Canadian than their not in your top 3. I was mostly stating that you said the season's in those 3 players hands. If Sanderson and Stuzle had such great seasons (which I agree with ) you're basically stating that if they have the exact same numbers ....the entire season is in Tarrasenko's hands which I disagree with. Again....slowly...If the season depends on 3 players and that 2 of them had great numbers last year and they missed the playoffs, by default you're saying that Tarasenko playing well is the only thing different that needs to happen for them to make it. I would argue that your best GAA can't be 2.93 and your best save % can't be .902. Giroux and Brady need to repeat as well, Norris needs to play at least 10g, they need to sign Pinto.......I just named you 4 things that we'rent your 3 players. If 2 of those 4 things don't happen, the Sens won't make it. Therefore, the Sens season does not only depend on those 3. ...PS I do believe they'll make it but everyone will have to participate

Sens are very fast and fun to watch! I do still have some doubts as the playoffs are completely different than the regular season. Everyone said that Toronto on paper is top 3 in the nhl, and yet they have won 1 game in the 2nd round in a decade. Or even Boston who broke the win record, lost to florida in round 1. Playoffs are so unpredictable that anyone can win. Its about seeing if EVERYONE performs in the playoffs. Offense, Defense and Goaltending. Have those 3 in the playoffs and you win it.

I was always curious when the Sens joined the NHL how many of the fans in the greater Ottawa area remained either Toronto or Habs fans given the city is right smack in the middle of the other two, who also happen to be 2 of the Original-6, therefore we're talking about the original fanbases in all of hockey so it musta been tough to just let go of those generational allegiances just because of geography???
@martinedwards2004

It’s been a ridiculously long battle to convert the fan base. The team needed to be patient and grab the next generation coming up. My impressions are Boston, Toronto, Tampa and Ottawa (not necessarily in that order) are the four teams that are going to make the playoffs in the Atlantic division. Despite losing Bergeron and Krejci up front, Boston still has grade A offensive players in Pastrnak, Marchand, and DeBrusk, a solid system, and a tremendously strong defense and goaltending duo. On the other end, Florida has no defense and I don't think Bobrovsky is going to goal on his head like he did in the playoffs last year. Great playoff in 2023, but I think this team is going to have a very average season.

Agree on all points. I don't give the Sens one single second thought not even for a millisecond, but on paper they're a major force. But the hockey world said that about Calgary 2 summers ago when Calgary sold the farm to make the trades they did. I'm also not a Calgary fan, but giving D. Sutter the boot will put Calgary back on track to start sniping the back of the net again. Five or 6 guys on Calgary no longer have to be gripping their sticks so hard and worried about Sutter running them over with his tractor. Last year Calgary was #1 in the league for talent and egregious missed opportunities. Edmonton would have went on to win Lord Stanley last year had they sneaked past Vegas. Edmonton can blame 3 players for their play off loss: RNH, Hyman, and Skinner - monster studs in the regular season, dead end zero production duds in the playoffs, adding below 900 goaltending to the mix. Edmonton hasn't solved any of their problems....why? All their problems are defense. Nurse is the Worse. Nuff said about Nurse. Skinner and Campbell have to pull their weight with a minimum 910,915 SV% the entire year with no dips, because Edmonton has no idea how to defend. Edmonton's 5 on 5 might be an improvement if Brown works out and stays healthy. All the teams that sucked last year will improve marginally this year, and all the teams that were great last will be a virtual wash...none of the great teams last year will run away with anything this year...all will be same old same old. The blood boiling attitude the Oilers have right now may get them into the WCF this year, but if you can't defend and make momentum changing saves..keep dreaming about Lord Stanley Edmonton... ain't gonna happen. Mentally, Boston is still absolutely exhausted and gassed from last year. Boston isn't going anywhere this year. Bedard is gonna get hit hard in the first 2 or 3 games of the regular season when his head is down and get a welcoming message from someone who can't stand cocky rookie #1 draft super stars. There's always one guy in the league who goes after #1 drafts on the ice. The NHL separates the men from the boys....big time so keep your head up Bedard. Bottom line? No one is running away with anything this year. The standings across the league will be jam packed..again separated by 1 or 2 points again. What Boston achieved last year will not be seen again for years if not decades. The key to any team in the NHL is staying healthy. Injuries are so rampant now in the NHL they mine as well call it the Not Healthy League. Buckle up, it's anybody's guess who will win Lord Stanley this year. I say anybody's guess, because of so many great teams Seattle kicked to the side of the road all year long last year including the playoffs. Can Seattle be consistent and repeat their burn it all down attitude this year? Who the f*** knows. You can give all kinds of acronyms when it comes to the NHL. But the best 2 acronyms are easily, especially when it comes to the teams themselves...Now Hot League and Not Hot League. No one knows who will get hot at the right time in the NHL.

Ottawa has some really nice forwards (though I think you've overrated a few here) but I really don't see their defense being stacked. Sanderson is a fine young player, but he's not hte stud everyone wants to annoint him as yet (his contract is a gamble, but odds are a smart one with a rising cap). Chabot hasn't been very good on his big deal. Zub had a bit of a breakout season 2 years ago and came back to earth a bit last year. Brannstrom hasn't really shown much progress considering what expectations were/are for him. Chrychrun might be their best if he can stay healthy. They should be better, and some guys will no doubt grow, but they I think people need to temper expectations a bit. Their only really solid defensive player among the 6 is Hamonic and his best days are well behind him. All this said, I am not an Ottawa fan, but I have nothing against them either; I hope they make the playoffs.

I like it. Riddler is going to be good but a top third line player in the nhl is a little bit of a reach for me

Ottawa has gotten off to some really bad starts the last few seasons, I am gonna predict the same thing is gonna happen. I also predict that DJ Smith will be fired by American Thanksgiving and that Gerad Galliant will be hired as head coach. Hoping the Sens can get into the playoffs, really fun team to watch when there rolling.

Sens lead the league in fighting majors in 2023. That at least tells me these guys are willing to get nasty for wins. Best wishes for 2023-2024 boys.....

It’s a league where a last place team can roll a first place team on any given night. The nhl is ready for anything lol

You can't really call guys like Sanderson and Chychrun "American" players in the sense that they are completely foreign to Canada or that it's a wonder they would ever sign there. Some American born players have parents that played on American teams and happened to be born in the USA but have tons of family in Canada and likely spent a lot of time visiting there growing up. Some others like Tkachuk however, yea it is great they decided to sign here long term.

P.Kane would be better & I'd be satisfied( from a Hawks fan perspective)if he went w/ Ottawa over Detroit. It's not right to be a historic🏆 legend in *Chicago & get winged out into retirement in the Motor City if he chooses. Sad

Ottawa is now able to sign their american (and european) stars to long term contract. The trick? Give the money sooner because RFA is always a risk.

Habs fan here. Send are defenitley looking scary. Still think goaltending is a ?. If you think the sens are soooo great now can't wait to see your complimentary videos about the CH in a couple years. Say what you want about Chabot and Sanderson but MTL will have the best D corps in the league soon. Little bit more experience and they're definitely going to be able to shut down sens. I watched Batherson at the ciha academy here in Rockland (he played and lived here) he will be a solid 3rd or 4th liner. Mtl has one of if not the best prospect pools in the league!!! Hopefully Ottawa can make something happen in the next 2-3 yrs. If not, I just think MTL will leapfrog them. I think the sens can make something happen but it needs to be soon. Florida, detroit, buffalo are all gonna be competitive. The games against the habs and leafs won't be easy. Tampa isn't dead yet....it needs to be in the next three yrs. Before Buffalo, Detroit and Mtl start taking over. If you're being honest these teams have better prospect pools, better talent coming up the pipeline. The sens are stacked for NOW!!! We haven even mentioned that once they get to playoffs, you have carolina, new jersey, rangers, even the islanders deserve a bit of respect. I don't see Ottawa beating carolina or the rangers in playoffs. I haven't brought up the retirement home teams in Pittsburgh and Washington lol lol. Send can definitely do something. But it need to be SOON!!!!

The sens already eliminated the Ranger, when they last made it to the playoffs in 2017. Yes the Rangers are different, but the Sens also won more against the Rangers last year, then they won against the Sens.
