One of the best books I’ve ever read! Original and dreamlike, loved it so much!

Great review bro, I felt the same way. Thought this was going to be Ecks vs Sever, but it ended up being a love story wrapped around "soft magic" like you mentioned. I adored the clock maker and the twins though. Subbed my man!

I've read the book and your review is ON POINT. I am disappointed because I love strong plots but I must say, the book was more about experiencing the atmosphere than making sense. Wish I had watched your videos before and do keep them coming!!

Thanks for your review. I just finished reading the book and after reading everybody hating it on Reddit threads, I was refreshed to see somebody who sees the positive in it (like I did). It certainly lacks a lot in plot, but makes up for in pure atmosphere.

Love this video format!!! Such a good idea. I can't think of any books with magic I've read for many years - I'll keep this one in mind if I find it at the library or a cheap copy somewhere

Love the Grishaverse poster in the background😍. I can't wait for the show. I'm excited for the third book in the SoC series but I really hope she doesn't screw it up. God I hope the book and show will be up to par with the original SoC duology. I still have to finish the trilogy/Alina's books.

I know right? I love that poster, I had it mounted on foam, so I can lean it on things without hanging, too! At Bookcon this year, she said she might write a new Six of Crows book at some point! But she said it would take some years, because there is the second book of Nikolai, and Ninth House, and the tv show and all. But honestly, I’d rather have her leave it, unless she really has a great idea, cause that series feels complete as a duology for me.

song of storms at the end. love it. was thinking about how i wouldn't mind soft worldbuilding because i prefer atmosphere a lot more than heavy lore, and i know that from zelda games

Your ideas are so creative!! I love this innovation of the traditional review :D I enjoyed The Night Circus, the atmosphere feels very vivid and the concepts are cool too, but I wasn't too convinced by the ending (not to spoil anything for people who haven't read it, but I really didn't want that to happen!!!)

Thank you!! Actually, I think I kinda guessed the ending in my TBR video, but the book still improved it a bit. But yea, I didn’t want it to happen either. Also, honestly, I cared more about Bailey and Puppet than the main characters haha.

l wish I saw this video before I read this book so I wouldn’t have wasted my time… You literally hit all the points that I dislike about this book. The plot is nonsense and the characters are very unmotivated, undeveloped and one-dimensional. It feels like the author only cares about showing off the fancy circus.
@PyroTheManiac

Honestly, yes. However, I did like the romance scenes very much, but it did feel more about atmosphere and world-building (or circus-building) than focusing on the actual contest and the romance. The ending didn't have much feeling to it, the climax was severely lackluster. A++ for the atmosphere, B+ for the romance, D for the plot

I bought this book beacuse the idea of a magic circus that just appears around the world made me very curious, the idea fascinated me and i wanted to know more (plus the cover was very pretty). But now i am struggling so much to actually read it thru and i am frustrated with quiet a few things. As it turns out every single point in the "why you might not like it" applies to me, fuck.
@Memodeth

oh no! yea it’s definitely more on the atmospheric side of things than the lore.

@@Memodeth Its not like its bad, but there are just a few annoying things, for example in this world (wich is basically ours) people supposedly doesnt know that magic exist, and Celia's father pretends to be a very clever magican, except he does stuff on stage that is obviously real magic, like turning the napkins of the audience into birds, having them fly around then turn back, why does everyone pretends that all of this were just clever tricks somehow? The employes at the circus have to know that magic is real beacuse the circus even travels and gets set up thru magic. But we completely skipped the part when this got revealed to them. Wouldnt it be an insane, world view shattering revelation to find out that magic is real? Let alone that one of their collegues could might as well be a demigod. Celia and Marco are insanely powerfull, and they are still young, i cant imagine what their mentors are capable of. What wizards are even doing in this world? They are effortlessly invulnerable, immortal, can mindcontroll a hundred person without effort. A single wizard could easily take over the world if they actually tried, yet supposedly they have no influence on the world other than having these silly little shows? Thru their powers they could revolutionise any field, wehicles, medicine, weapons etc, any magic user could get obsenely rich thru their craft yet they have no mark on the world. I know that the story wasnt suppose to be about all that, but i wish that it got at least adressed in some way beacuse it just keeps bothering me at the back of my mind while reading it. Also how everyone working at the circus became immortal all of a sudden, and they all act like its not a big deal. Yes one woman stepped in front of a train, then her sister started to ask questions. But there have to be hundreds of people working at the circus and most of them doesnt even question this insane phenomenon, those who actually talk about it, treat it like rainy weather, yeah its slightly concerning but whatever. How did they not all started to ask questions from Celia, who is the only one they know who is obviously a magic user. The idea of a magical circus that shows up night is fantastic, but its main appeal would be the mistery, except there is nothing misterious about it for the reader, we know everything about it from its conception. A story could be so exciting wich would be from the point of view of a visitor who discovers the circus but maybe stumbles upon some of its darker secrets, or something. At least this is what i first assumed the story will be like. Sorry i didnt expected this to be so long.

What does a second person mean?
@Memodeth
@Memodeth Год назад
Second person is “you”. So in third person writing it would say “He went into the store”, whereas in second person, it would say “You went into the store.”

I would say an alternative 19th century, so not concerned with historical accuracy.
