A "Big Bang Theory" star is stepping into an iconic sitcom role, and she has a big robe to fill. But what happened to the original "Night Court" judge? #NightCount #Revival #WhatHappened Read Full Article: www.looper.com...
@@Woodsm.Woodstock.. As I said, I know it is early and I am not one to judge something on one sample. Hopefully I like her in the role better as it goes on.
I've lived in Western NC since 1999 and didn't know that Harry Anderson lived in Asheville until after his death. I'd have loved to meet the guy, in spite of having heard that he was a jerk in real life. The same thing goes for the late Jan Michael Vincent.
@@earlwyss520 I hadn't heard that he was a jerk in real life. I know he was a great fan of Mel Torme, who was reputedly one of this earth's biggest jerks. Probably only a coincidence, though.
He owned a magic shop in New Orleans during his final years. He was a very good guy, and I think probably one of the more influential characters for me as far as style and humour. The whole show was amazing, although it was every week night it never got old. The show afterwards was always Cheers...which wad good but more verbal than the slap stick audacity in Night Court. Hopefully we will get more than 1 season...it's going to take some time to get the characters acting in tandem. But if they do and get the best writers...it could be a hit.
But surely it was only once a week on NBC....I was talking about evey night reruns on regional television. Like the Crosby show was at 8pm on Thursday, Cheers then Night Court *All new episodes.....
Aww my mom would've loved to have seen the revival of this show!!! Night Court was one of her very favorite shows... Lol 🤣😆 I remember the Halloween episode coming on tv one night and falling asleep during it and I had a nightmare about the show! Haha I was too scared to watch any episode of that show ever again after that 🤣... I'm gonna have to give this one a watch though for my mom (R.I.P. Mommy)
After seeing the first three episodes, I think this 'new boot' definitely has potential but needs some more character development, especially with Olivia the prosecutor.
I have actually liked the new Night Court, as a young fan of the original. Though personally I would like a guest appearance from Bull and Roz. I think it needs some time to find it's own rhythm it has the spirit of the original.
The good thing about Night Court is it doesn't go downhill as it goes along, it stays just as funny as the first season and I think it got even better.
They do realize she was Christine's daughter as well right she was always a speedy talker and easily flustered the delivery could be an aspect of both her parents
@@karenwoith8032 thank you I just looked it up, I was incorrect, I assumed since I remembered their would they won't they moments and then that episode of 30Rock where the characters tide the knot .. it said on the wiki that he married a woman named Gina and that is supposed to be her mother but the original thought could still explain it. That or she's just not supposed to be a copy of the judge entirely as well ... Either way still thank you for the nudge to go back more 👍.
I see a lot of people anxious to have Spiner's character come back. I must be in the minority who didn't really care fore it. Wouldn't mind seeing Mr. Tuttle and the turtle come back though.
Selma was only in the first two seasons, though. Passed away in 1985 from lung cancer. Had a whole storyline of trying to find a replacement for her and Bull mourning her death, which was a really nice way to pay tribute to her.
I think that they are actually honoring Harry Anderson and his character. I loved that show. Having watched it religiously through out it's run. I wish the new cast and crew well just take it in the right direction and you won't miss.
It would be sweet if Abby loved Torme too because of her dad😊. And who was her mother? Did harry and Christine marry? What happened to them both? What about little Charlie, where is he now?
They are bringing back Brent and Annie back as Bob and June Wheeler. I'm iffy about Kate Micucci as their kid though. Personally, I would have brought in a bunch of kids, and a dozen grandkids.
When Harry from Night Court died it was a great loss she was a lot of things but it was everything that I love that I still love until now even though he's gone but I still have remember my heart always he lives on in my heart and remember all the times I watched it when she was alive may God have you in heaven my beloved friend and my favorite actor from your number one fan
It's probably the best thing on tv. The characters are relatable, and the audience is familiar with the setting and such. So many current shows have characters that are just plain mean. Don't find this with the new Night Court. The show definitely needs to find its way, and cameos from the previous series would be appreciated.
I haven’t watched this. But I agree with you about having some of the original actors making cameo appearances. How about the actors who played the oh-so-funny couple who had a worm farm in which the worms stampeded? I need to edit this because I can’t remember off-hand the actors names. ETA: Brent Spiner and Annie O’Donnell were the actors who played Bob&June Wheeler (6 episodes in Seasons 3 and 4). They were so funny, especially because they had deadpan facial expressions during their scenes.
Sorry2disagree. Mellisa is playing the Judge's role SPOT ON. She's doing what Harry would have passed down to her, various comedic talents-combined with what he would have told her if he was alive and retired and she was just starting out as a judge. He would've said something like "Since this is a night court, you're liable to have some zainy situations happen in your courtroom. Just be yourself, do your own way of running this courtroom, just as long as you remember these are your citizens who need your love and respect, even when they've done some awful things and need to get their life straightened out." The only advice Mellisa Raunch really needs more than anything is she needs to make sure this role is not played out exactly like her "Big Bang Theory" role. But like it would be good to please her "Big Bang" fans, because it does feel like we got Mellisa and Jim Parsons still on television, fun to watch!!!🥰😁🤣
Reinhold Daniel Fielding Elmore is really bringing the show along. The other characters are ok but the prosecutor needs to be less stressed all the time, the bailiff seems a bit over the top. Dan is now a mentor if he wants to be or not. Abby is a fish out of water and Dan is the one pulling her back to the center at times. I think he see's a lot of Harry in his daughter and in ways is happy to see her doing what her dad did and wants to help her grow to be a better person/judge.
I love the original, I don’t see this show lasting. You can only go so far with nostalgia. This is the problem with trying to revisit old shows. These shows were good for their times but trying to make something from the past fit in with a different era doesn’t always work well. People will be curious at first but will loose interest due to its dependence on nostalgia. This will be the same fate for That 90’s Show. You may get a few episodes or a season out of it but not much else. Richard Moll had the right idea by staying away from this project. People love and miss the original cast and show. This is just imitation with a thin veneer of “Night Court” paint job. I just seeing neither show lasting long.
I think it's supposed to be different. Times have changed. It always bothers me when a retread tries too hard to be like the original. One of the reasons Wednesday is a hit for example is that they left the family out of the story for the most part and made something new, but with the familiar themes and touchpoints.
I wonder if they will "kill off" Mac and Christine in a future episode. Perhaps Dan attending one or both of their funerals (they did very close together in real life) and running into Roz and Bull. I think that works out to be a great way to bring the surviving originals back. I'm also hoping to see an older Bob Wheeler (Brent Spinner) appear in a future episode as well.
Remember, as the fiasco that was "Ghostbusters 2016" & the success that was "Ghostbusters: Afterlife" have shown us, direct sequels, even recast, are going to be more successful than complete recasting & redos, because you will already have a loyal fan base ready for more of the story. Now, under the same line of thinking, ignoring what has come before and recasting & redoing the original series without honoring it, will absolutely enrage the original fan base and lead to the new show failing miserably. My one regret is that I no longer receive NBC to watch this show.
I think there are a lot of fans of the original night court out there who are hoping the reboot will do it justice. Melissa Rausch seems to bring the same heart and naiveté to the part of judge Abby Stone. As long as the writers can keep from going off the political deep end, I think the show will do okay.
The problem with today tv which is why the jokes are rush is because there are more commercials they put in and less dialog and tv time. That is why today's tv is not as good as it was back in the 80s.
5.5 on imdb....not good. Today's episode is out in a few hours, let's see if it gets better. Anybody watching Sledge Hammer? Full episodes on RU-vid. Another example of a great idea for a reboot, although the original city gets nuked...a younger Sledge is a great idea. He can be called War Hammer, Jack Hammer, or if a female lead Fanny Hammer.
Yeah, rather than night court being the night shift court it's the graveyard shift (aka night shift) court. Does anyone sober read your copy before putting it in production?
The dog painting in Abby's office is also a nod to the original series. I like the show so far, the jokes are much tamer, but in this day and age writers have to tread more carefully.
I think the first season will be rough going but I'm getting a lot of laughs from it so far. The second season will be the most telling and I hope they finesse the formula and don't throw anything obnoxious into it. Let the cast get comfortable and get a mix of old 80's lowbrow highbrow jokes. I like the slightly more serious tone, it would be tough not to with so many of the original cast gone. A somber comedy, I hope the writers are up to the challenge.
Melissa Rauch is no dummy. She carefully let's John Larroquette carry the ball as much as possible. When you've got a "Fonzie" on the team, you give him equal time and billing because the fans know what's funny.
Another unnecessary reboot. It's not Judge Harry. It's not Christine. No Bull. It's not Night Court. Even a visit by Bob & June Wheeler can't save this train wreck.
All that talking and in the end still didn't say how Harry's character died..... . . . . After careful consideration I've come to realize that the reboot doesn't live up to expectations.
Before Judge Harry there was Harry the hat…. On Cheers Harry was a bit of a grifter…. Then came Judge Stone and the whole cast of zanies…. You had to be careful, if you blinked during an episode, you probably missed something…. Like the time Judge Stone was working on something in his chambers…. Next thing we see is Judge Harry flying a hang glider to the Statue of Liberty… a second later we see him fly away and behind him the Statue of Liberty is wearing Groucho glasses! It don’t get better than that!
Sorry but it's the wrong armadillo, Harry's one had the tail going up over the back and his "daughter" has one with the tail going down/under the body.
This reboot never be as good as original not even close as good the original with the same name iam initialed to my opinion if you don't like it the hell with you all of you
Not sure you can call this a reboot. It is more of The Next Generation like Star Trek was. Reboot would mean all the characters would be recast. Second, there is way too many commercials today than there were back then.
