I grew up in the 1970's. I always thought that the 30 minute episodes of the price is right, were great. The models were all smokin hot in the swimwear they had on.
It is great to watch past price is right episodes. I was only 14 years old in 1977. I don't remember the model, Linda however. All 3 models looked great in the swimwear they had on. I remember when minibikes and pinball machines were popular also. Thanks for posting. Still a great game show.
The Nighttime Price Is Right is 1 of my favorite syndicated weekly nighttime game shows back in the 70's. I hope U have more episodes from this show soon.
The Nighttime Price Is Right was syndicated by Viacom and was not exclusively on NBC stations. It aired in Huntington/Charleston, West Virginia on WCHS TV 8, at that time a CBS station, on Saturday nights followed by Match Game PM, which naturally carried the daytime show with Barker. The final year of the syndicated Price is Right, that Bob Barker hosted, was moved to WSAZ channel 3 which is an NBC station. In 1985 in the WV market WCHS TV 8 and WOWK Channel 13 switched network affiliates and now WCHS is the ABC station here with WOWK now being a CBS station.
Aired on KTRK - ABC Channel 13, Houston, TX in all 8 seasons of the weekly series from 1973 to 1980. Mondays 18.30, Season 8 aired Fridays or Sundays at 16.30.
This is what got Dennis James fired from "The Nighttime Price Is Right". During a playing of Cliff Hangers, he referred to the mountain climber as Fritz. A contestant lost a big prize when the mountain climber fell over the cliff. A contestant cannot miss the prices of three smaller prizes by more than $25. When the mountain climber fell, James shouted "There goes Fritz!" Unbeknownst to James, model Janice Pennington heard this and was upset. Her husband was actually a mountain climber named Fritz who mysteriously disappeared himself. Pennington was in her dressing room, unable to finish the show.
More night time TPIR please. How many are there? Under my calculations it ran for 8 years at night. Doing one show a week. For about 37 weeks a year X 8=296 episodes. especially if we can find the full airplane episode
Dennis James: 5 year contract, 39 show per season=195 episodes. Bob Barker took over for the next three years. Goodson-Toddman wanted DJ for the daytime version, CBS did not, and insisted on BB.
CBS knew what it was talking about at that time seeing as the daytime version is in season 46 starting season 47 in SEPTEMBER BOB was the correct choice and my all time favorite PRICE IS RIGHT host.
So, in New York, WNBC(4) had this show Tuesday and Thursday Evenings, and then switched to Channel 2(WCBS) that Fall, with Bob Barker at the helm, right?
Yep, and WLKY in Louisville, owned by Hearst Broadcasting since 1999, carried it every Friday night at 7:00pm, and WKYT in Lexington, owned by Gray Television since 1993, carried it every Wednesday night at 7:30pm. The difference between WLKY and WKYT was that WLKY aired just one episode of TPIR every week in the 1970s while WKYT, thanks to its "TPIR Wednesdays" promotion, aired six TPIR episodes (five every day and one every Wednesday night) in the 1970s. IIRC, WLKY began airing the daytime TPIR in the Fall of 1990!
sugarbear522 I remember before checking the internet that it came on Channel 5 (WMAQ) only because the Bill Cullen's version of Pyramid came on once a week on Channel 5 but here's proof on TPIR: www.j-shea.com/TPIR/nighttime/nightTPIRstations.htm
Does anyone has the nighttime episode from 1976-77 when Dennis James yells "There Goes Fritz" as the mountain climber falls off on the Cliff Hangers game, unaware that Fritz was the name of Janice Pennington's boyfriend whom disappeared while mountain climbing, in which she broke down and cried backstage afterwards? That tore his heart out as he never hosted another game show since 1977.
+meyerj75 OMG . That's a great urban legend story. But did that actually happen? I've never heard of that one. . The story I heard was that how Cliffhangers came about was somebody''s idea, from knowing about Janice's husband dying or disappearing off a cliff or mountain he was climbing. Either story is pretty bizarre and really insensitive to if you ask me.
+der22672 The incident was referenced in the behind the scenes book written by music director/contestant coordinator Stan Blits. He says he forgets if that part was aired or not.
I'm sorry, but i can't stand stupid contestants!!!! I'll give the lady playing "Any Number" a pass because no one knows where the numbers will go, but the other 2 contestants?!?! OY VEY!!
