The reason why New Super Mario Bros Walkthrough Part 2 has so many views is simply because it went crazy in the RU-vid algorithim around 2009 along with the fact that it featured gameplay from World 7 which most kids couldn't get to because it required taking a canon into World 5 which most kids couldn't figure out how to do.

This is such a great video. Some corrections though: Spotpass was just used to send info to the player while they were in sleep mode and connected to the internet. Streetpass Relay points were also used at Nintendo Zones, which used Spotpass to give you the streetpasses of the last few people that visited there. Minecraft DS could also refer to the various homebrew ports of Minecraft. Somewhat disappointed that you never mentioned them, but it's fine lol I'm just a nerd. Good video regardless

I’m honestly surprised there’s no The World Ends With You entry here. It’s one of the few RPGs I’ve seen that NEEDS the DS because it’s built with it in mind and uses all of its strengths like it’s touch screen and the dual screens. It’s one of the first games I associate with the console. But anyways, fantastic video. I learned a lot and awakened some old DS memories.

There's definitely nothing repetitive about phantom hourglass.. I can't imagine anybody complaining about the Ocean King Temple since it was my favorite part. It gave the game very good pacing and allowed you to take shortcuts with the new items you acquired from various temples. It has not aged badly in my opinion. I'm serious there's nothing wrong with it I really like it as a concept and the way it works

Ok, you just unlocked a memory. I kinda got hypnotized by the Mario Kart DS Credit Scene when I was 10. Watched it on repeat because it made me feel highly sad and melancholic and I got addicted. I don't know if it was just me.

The 3DS is like the most durable thing known to man. My friend has had his for nearly 8 years, and it’s still going strong. He’s been using it regularly the entire time, and has done all manner of things to it. It’s a trooper.

As a kid I was going down the stairs with my original DS open, tripped and fell and the top screen snapped off. But before it fully fell off I managed to get into settings and switched the GBA screen to the bottom and it fully functioned as a GBA long after. Didn't break anymore we just got rid of it

I'm really curious as to what the logic was behind initially wanting the GBA and DS to coexist as two separate pillars, despite both being handhelds. I guess maybe Nintendo saw the GameBoy as a product for kids and hardcore gamers, while the DS was meant for adults and casual gamers (games like Cooking Mama, BrainAge, and Nintendogs come to mind). But if that's the case, why go through all the trouble to add GBA support to the DS? Honestly, I think Nintendo probably intended all along for the DS to replace the GBA, but they didn't want to lose any goodwill from people with GBAs, so they supported it for a little while longer until most people transitioned over. It's pretty much the same thing we see nowadays, with PS4 and Xbox One games still being made, despite their successors being over 2 years old now.

Bro this video is fire, I’ve been binging ds videos to see if I can find a certain game, I can’t quite remember much about it but it was a boat game and in the ending there was a secret where a disgruntled employee would ramble on and talk about wanting to end it all

Ah, i remember that birthday message as a kid, i used to playing my ds alot. Also with mario 64 ds, i remember feeling this odd feeling, like something was following me, the game felt eerie despite it being bright and colourful.... its the same feeling people got with the n64 version really.

My dad was the only one that could get a somewhat decent score of 60 or smth and I was so surprised since he was (and still is) a total geek

Nintendo wanted as many people as possible to buy the game on Wii U *and* on 3DS.

The korg dsn-12 was great, I even made a website to explore synthesis techniques for it when people kept asking how to do things. Korg made a a few other similar offerings like the DS-10 for original DS and the M01D for 3DS (download only and no longer officially available)

I remember doing a project at school for the Intelligent Systems Development Kits (cause I'm a fire emblem weeb), and I remember they had like development kits for several consoles because Nintendo could never be bothered to make their own development kits. It's funny tho, because at the time Intelligent Systems was already struggling financially until FE: Awakening hit the 3DS Oh, and I guess Wario Ware existed too

I used to love looking at the Nintendo zone app back then whenever I would go to McDonald’s. I also loved Nintendo Video, it was really nice back then since I didn’t use RU-vid back then. I love flipnote btw, my favorite Nintendo product!

8:23 Since nobody else has said it I will. I enjoyed going through the Temple of the Ocean King multiple times. I speedran it trying to get the timer as close to 0 when I got to the end by using all the shortcuts and extra time pots. I even found a couple unintended shortcuts all on my own while experimenting. This was LONG before I even knew what speedrunning was too

2:55 that's not true the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games had a very unique concept of playing as the pokemon themselves instead of a trainer in addition to procedurally generated levels and a turn based overworld. The Pokemon ranger games also had fun action sequences and a different take on capturing pokemon.

New Super Mario Bros 2 was my first game on the 3ds and it holds an infinite amount of nostalgia for me even tho i couldnt beat the game because the Boo level where you had to keep looking back was too hard for little 5 year old me Edit: This is really good for being your first video, keep up the good work!

The ds lite has some pen pressure capabilities and one ds homebrew made use of this called Colors!

So, the "bye-bye" thing is actually in new super mario bros. as well, along with a few of the transformers games I want to say, when you close and open the lid it will make the "transformers noise" the sfx that is played when they change from robot to vehicle and vis versa. Trying to think if there are any more, but ye, it's a feature in a few games on the ds.

I’m pretty sure it was Nintendo Zone I used to collect street passes. You could spoof your location by changing the MAC address on your router to collect the street passes. The ‘zones’ were placed in high traffic locations and would fill up in a second. I also had the ambassador certificate and I still have my original 3DS. It was such a great handheld console, I wish Nintendo would release another one.

a bit disappointed and surprised that flipnote studio and hatena weren't covered more, i at least expected launch dates or the cancelation date of hatena the wording kind of made it sound like hatena was just the 3ds's version of flipnote too, but that could just be me also would have been cool if the whole pappy van poodle ordeal was mentioned in the rusty's real deal baseball part, nick robinson has a good video or two on that despite those, this is a really good video!! got me interested in some games ive never heard of or looked into, and was definitely nostalgic

My poor 3ds got completely broken, top and bottom screens completely broken from each other aside from hanging on by one little wire. I was still fully functional and I was able to play games like that for a couple years before it finally stopped functioning. (No, I didn’t get it repaired, I was a small child I didn’t know better 😭)

That’s not actually a picture of the nitro system at 30:24 that’s actually what alpha dream used to showcase early builds of Mario and Luigi partners in time to Nintendo before there was an solid prototype or dev kit to use

I'm sure someone probably already said this but you don't actually need to complete NSMB to play as Luigi. I'm pretty sure people only believe that because it's required on NSMB2 and because you're told how to play as him at the end of NSMB.

The original DS was prone to break at the hinge when it dropped and that was already bad when the DS was new. I assume that this happens because the material holding the hinge mechanism in is thin and thus cannot bear much of the force that it is subjected to upon impact. The DS lite was a bit less prone to fail at the hinge and in case of the DSi, i barely see any of them with a broken hinge.

i own one of the special edition 3ds !! i got it for christmas one year and its my only 3ds after the tragic fate my past 2 suffered from (being stolen and being owned by a 6-10 year old lol). its a solagleo and lunala new 3ds xl and ive had it for 7 years, it works really well still but the bottom shell is taped together due to my constant homebrew modifications lol

My original DS broke at the hinge everytime i dropped it but the DSI XL and 3DS were sure sturdy!
