In this video, I take a trip out to Soundhouse Studio to play through Jack Endinos twin reverb, the very same one Kurt Cobain used for the recording of their first album "Bleach" One of the best sounding amps I've ever played through!
If you're interested in booking time at this amazing studio make sure you shoot them a message through one of these links.

I was in a metal band back in 2018 and we recorded 6 songs at Soundhouse, and Jack let our guitar player use this Cobain amp (it was a Cobain amp from bleach, so I assume its the same one). It blew my mind that we were allowed to do that.

I’m a Nirvana nerd and I’m in the navy stationed in Bremerton. I read online recently that Jack Endino, before becoming a producer, worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He said he picked that amp up in Port Orchard in this video and it gave me goosebumps. I go to Mainline Music in Port Orchard a lot. I’m not sure if that place was open then but if he picked it up there that’d be crazy Great video man. I love your content

This is honestly crazy! Pretty rad of Jack to have you over to play with the amp. It blows my mind that he'd never seen anyone else with a Hi-Flier since Kurt! You would've thought there would have been people inspired by Kurt bringing them in.

Wow, this was such a surreal experience just watching Jack Endino himself talk about the details and nuances in Kurt's playing and you playing that very same twin reverb Kurt played 34 years ago. It's unreal and it sounds exactly like that record. I hope you get back there again soon and make a couple of more videos and release the IR for that twin. So very excited for the next upload!!

Omg thats amazing. When u played about a girl, in relation to tonal quality it sounded exactly like bleach. The USA alternative underground music scene in the 80s and early 90s was unreal. We didnt have that in the uk. We have no endinos who recorded legendary artists who changed music who are accessible as such. All our legendary people and studios are inaccessible.

What an awesome opportunity! Just goes to show how good of a job you're doing with these videos. Also, on a side note, I need a full version of the intro song. It really sparked something inside me similar to hearing Kurt's home recordings for the first time and just made me want to listen to it over and over.

I heard Albini say that this amp is a 4 tube rig, but that it was missing 3 of the 4 tubes, and this produced an "asymmetric" (his term) distorted wave form as there's only the 1 tube to provide gain. He also said Cobain used a Randal amp along with the Fender, but this might've been after Bleach. Personally I always loved the Fender clean sounds, and I owned a twin reverb, for me there is no comparison for analog distortion and solid state distortion (i.e. Randal and modern Marshall). To each their own.

I’m surprised there isn’t any mention of the cab and most importantly the speakers in it, which are a massive part of the overall tone. Was the Twin Reverb run through that cab and speakers on the recording?
@marzsit9833
@marzsit9833 Год назад
at that time kurt had a marshall cab and a randall solid-state head. when they got to the studio everyone decided that the randall head was crap for recording, so jack offered to let kurt play through the twin using kurt's cab. the cab in this video is jack's, not kurt's.
@blackholeheart1992

So in the video here we were plugged into jacks 4x12 with celestion 70s. For the recording, Kurt brought in a littler closed back 2x12 sound city cab with celestion 70's. The celestion 70's are a huge part of that sound for sure
@blackholeheart1992
@blackholeheart1992 Год назад
@@AaronRash interesting. The 70’s get very little love. The g12-65’s were so good that the new at the time 70’s seemed like a downgrade. They were quickly replaced by the 75’s.

That amp is actually a "chopped down" Fender Quad Reverb. Quad-Reverb amps did not have Tilt-Back Legs. That's why there is no evidence of Tilt-Back Leg hardware holes on the side. The side Vents were added on by a previous owner. Not original to the amp.
