The work has begun, and so much of it is just cleaning, taking one's time, and being methodical.
Patience will be rewarded.

About 15 years ago, I built a Ceriatone kit HC30. I made one critical mistake and sent it to Lyle, who at the time was a member of a forum since closed. When we talked about my error (I had reversed heaters on one tube), I heard this voiceover voice like Morgan Freeman's tell me my screw up. I am so happy all of you get to enjoy Lyle's knowledge and content now!!! Lyle rules!!

Every time I hear a Twin on your channel I miss my '78 silver face Twin, as impractical as it was. Nice clean up on this one, Lyle.

Having watched many of your videos, and despite none of these amps being my own, I would just like to say in summary: Thank you for giving a shit from start to finish, at every turn.

A little spritz of WD-40 in a cup of coffee gives a nice nutty flavor...#TheMoreYouKnow 🙃

It's great to see another repair tech taking into account be outer foil of a film capacitor. I love you work. It shows that you love it too.

I played a Twin in my old band. My bandmate had the loudest solid state amp in history, and my Super reverb couldn’t keep up. So I bought a Twin and lugged that heavy bastard all over the PNW for a couple years. Can’t say I miss moving it, but it was a great sounding amp. That solid state Fender my buddy had still gives me nightmares- it would blow away a full Marshall stack in shear loudness- I wouldn’t have believed a 12” speaker could be so loud if I hadn’t experienced it.

Thanks David. I have a lot of friends on here who are also great techs, so I can’t wear that hat, but I appreciate the thought.

I rewired a 2008 reissue using a kit during the pandemic. Great amplifier. Doesn’t like certain gain/fuzz pedals though when compared to Marshall amps.

A drop of blue Loctite on the transformer nuts would prevent them from loosening again.

those early brown turds (brown and yellow or Paktron brown turds) are really good caps; the rarely fail and i believe they are pretty much the exact specs as the blue ajax-- the latter brown turds and blue blobs aren't as good. These actually go back to at least 63 as they were used on the brown VVerb.

I like how the spring retainer looks but if the bear trap is better for functioning without vibration then I'd rather have those too.

What would have been the idea behind swapping all the plate resistors to metal oxide? Noise? If I understand correctly a plate resistor would be one of the few places with enough swing for carbon comps to work their VDR magic.
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 4 месяца назад
You understand correctly. MOs are “better” resistors in terms of spec than CCs. But CCs aren’t really noisy in a Fender circuit and their spec “flaws” lead to some interesting distortion characters. However sloppily installed, the previous MOs would have sounded ok. But kind of sterile. If this was a high gain amp I’d be using 2W MFs for plates and such.

Had a girlfriend a lifetime ago that also thought WD-40 was an aphrodisiac. She just loved the way it smelled. I wonder if cilantro tasted like soap to her, too😀

@@PsionicAudio, "if loving [Cilantro] is wrong, I don't wanna be right"! I don't know if I'd say I love it, but I like it; then again I like anchovies, and salmon and tuna, and pickled herring, marinated octopus, and all kinds of fish that you don't like, so we'll just have to disagree, and you can take my opinions with some large coarse grains of kosher salt, or pink Himalayan, or whatever you prefer !😉

@@PsionicAudio , My sister is in Iceland right now and I told her she should sample some fermented Greenland shark in my honor, because if I was there I probably would, just so I could say that I had tried it. I've never been to Indonesia, but if I went there I suppose I'd have to try some durian fruit.....

Serious question Lyle...what do you think of the WD-40 contact cleaner vs. De-Oxit?
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 4 месяца назад
Different solvents for different purposes. WD40 should never be used in pots, switches, or tube sockets. DeOxit doesn’t remove/penetrate/protect against rust. Like comparing shampoo and Simple Green.
@DanielBobke
@DanielBobke 4 месяца назад
@@PsionicAudio Sorry...maybe I wasn't clear. WD-40 makes a specific contact cleaner - similar product to DeOxit. I was just wondering if you have used WD-40's competing product and what you thought of it compared to DeOxit.
@rustymohican8280

?? Do you ever use dielectric grease?
@PsionicAudio
@PsionicAudio 4 месяца назад
No. It traps particles that then become conductive. Short term “solution” (not really), long term problem (really).
