Ticshendorf, Simonides, the Vatican, Westcott & Hort played a big role in modern versions. I never heard of a Jesuit influence in the KJV translation. I do know there is a corrupted KJV that the RCC uses. Look for for a J.S. in modern versions, this should be your first clue.

In Semitic languages the consonants tell you what the root word is, and the vowels change depending on various uses of the root word. Temple prostitutes were not holy in the Israelite Faith, but they were seen as holy in the Canaanite religions, and thus the name. You will find this in any standard Hebrew lexicon... Brown Drivers and Briggs being the best known. The Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament being the most conservative Protestant source on the subject.(see pages 786 through 788 of volume 2).

There are words that refer to homosexuals more broadly, but this word is not that.

A good book on the subject is "The Bible and Homosexual Practice" by Robert Gagnon. He shows conclusively that the Bible does condemn homosexuality, and examines every passage of Scripture that addresses the subject, as well as later commentary from the Fathers, and he addresses the usual arguments homosexual apologists make.
