Agree! I fell in love with the books and binge read them all years ago, couldn’t believe it took so long to make a series of it then found I could not get hold of the series……..thank you so much for this!
How exciting that must have been! I was an extra in a movie in my hometown once. I think I got paid $20. It was exhausting but an experience I will never forget.😃
This is my first day of finding this show. But i absolutely loved the two women. It has its moments of seriousness interspersed with comic relief. A gem.😊🙏
*Wish they had. Once you said “wish” the verb was going to have to be subjunctive, so saying “would” is incorrect grammar and makes no sense. You’re welcome.
I adored both the books and the one season of perfectly done episodes! My favorite tea is Rooibos tea because of the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency. I wish there had been more seasons filmed. 👋
@@jill56297 It is a hearty, brown liquid made from the leaves of the "red bush" plant (see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rooibos) No caffeine in spite of holding up well to milk or soy milk. Also, teabags can be contiued to be used for second cup, or pot. A semi-endless teabag! Even Starbucks has it for sale, so the word is out, although, like Marcia, I learned of it through this show and have been grateful ever since. It's my morning beverage, and yes they need a LDA reboot! I've been reading the continuing series of books and see much potential!
Just discovered the books, now the series...wonderful. I am especially impressed with the fact that they didn't attempt to "westernize" it in any way; it was Botswana, its people, its culture. Loved the ebullient music.
One of the most romantic scenes ever was the scene of the two leading characters meeting on the road, at night, not expecting to see each other, but wishing with all their hearts too be together. This scene proves that love scenes do not have to contain nudity, wild love making, ripping off each others clothing, etc. Sincerely,Bobbie.
Yes. During the scene, I thought: "What a pity that the two are there in separate cars, and will have to drive home from this distant place each in their own car when they want to be together!" In the next scene, we saw that they solved that problem: She and her mechanic beloved are nestled together in the towing truck, and he is towing her vehicle - not because it is broken, but because they want to be in one car.
Found this today! Something to be thankful for! 🤣 Love alexander McCall smith’s series. Such a wonderful story about a little known country and its beautiful people.
This show is at least 10 years old and I'm sooooo glad it's in RU-vid cause I didn't get to watch all the episodes so I hope all of them have been uploading. Thanks a million👍👏
@@StrongnBeautiful I doubt seriously the U.S. picked this show up. Netfilx would be the best bet of finding it in the U.S. but I haven't seen it in their lineup.
@@tandiwetendaimaithya6456 Ok. After thinking about it, I did remember seeing the commercials, but seeing that I didn't have cable, I put it out of my mind. 🙂
This is so good, such a good laugh. Never read the books didn't even know they existed. So great to see a jolly and dignified represent of an African story by Western media. 💛🇿🇦
There is over 20 books (one new each year), and if you enjoy the show, can promise you will at least equally love the books! Author is Alexander McCall Smith. Enjoy!!
Their accents are really good. You can tell they worked with a vocal coach and didn’t just wing it like most actors so and end up sounding the same, one way.
Oh how I was so sadden when I heard either the writer, director, or actor had passed away and movie's continuation was ending! Prayers to family and friends. I even read the book and thought I was in the scenes and inside the pages(hahaha!!!). To drop this glorious movie on UT, I say THANK U! LOve U Ladies Detective Agency!! Ms. Scott we love you please return especially in this series. All Praises To The Most High !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sa, I will keep going on to watch this detective show, it's very good. I'm German, living in the Fiji Islands for almost 30 years. Back in the late 70ties I was lucky enough to got to know few places in Africa working on a German Cargo Ships travelling the West, South West and Eastern Coast. I love all those Ports and !earned a bit about the Live of many different societies over there. Especially South Africa! Thumbs up for Mama Otao.👍👍👍🇫🇯🌴
Wow!! Who knew Jill Scott could act as well as sing! I had no idea she'd branched out into acting, much less into a series based in Africa. Very glad I found this on RU-vid. 👍👍😎 She's gorgeous!! 😍
Thank you to everyone that involved in this elegant collection from Africa. You make us proud brilliant elegant majestic you name it peace and love to all the brothers and sisters round the world that are doing good in what they do
Omotayo - Africa is diverse, majestic, virile, bursting with color/ sound/ feelings and can teach the West a lot about human kindness and empathy. It is a place full of untapped human potential and fortunately still full of pristine Nature. We love you too! By the way, you have some fantastic art and music too!
Why has this only just pop up now, its 2021... This series aired years ago and it was my favourite show on MWEB at the time. Why was only 1 season aired. Do the numchucks who start these awesome series know that there are more to the story. Come on...lets have more wonderful episodes of the great series.
@@rogeranderson8763 I'm confused. Which one of the Producers died? Because at the opening, it states, that it's produced by the Weinstein company. He's also one of the Executive producers. Amongst others.
Ann Thomas it could to see if people are still interested in it and if they get a big rating they may bring it back with more episodes. I hope a Producer is interested in dithering but keep it like it is right now. They can add this already to Netflix and just film more.
The person before is right...one of the key individuals in creating the show, Anthony Minghella died. He was the director of the Best Picture Oscar winner, The English Patient.
I adored this show. Couldn't find it for years. Very happy to see it on RU-vid. I really wish there were more seasons. This show was amazing. I enjoyed every episode.
Just popped up in my YT feed. I loved the book series. As an American having spent 2 years living in Lesotho, this brought back fond memories. Gosh I miss Africa!
Once you have lived in on the African continent. It gets into your bones brutality and beauty. Africa is alive and vibrant colorful. It can't be compared to any other continent. I am proudly South African. Better to live one day as a lion in Africa then a rat in the project's.
The show ended without filming the final episodes. It left viewers disappointed with many unanswered loose ends- however, despite that, it’s one of the best series ever made. The casting, the storylines, the editing all perfect. It’s a delight to watch. It aired on HBO and it would be great if Apple TV or Netflix picked it up to continue where it left off.
WoW. I've been considered reading the books but I'm STILL getting around to it. A book tells a different story than the video...I guess that now I'll take video. SUPREMELY PLEASED!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I remember when I used to drown myself in the intro-song. It would vibrate my esteem to higher realms. So POWERFUL!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!!
Thank you so much for posting this. I've told my son about this show, but I could never find it anywhere. I have one of the books. It was such a good series.
FINALLY!!!...a great series (...no longer a series😭😫😭). I spend SO much time looking for something worth watching. I have enjoyed every minute of the movie, now the series. There's comedy, mystery, drama, romance...all in one. Has my attention from beginning to end. AND, I don't have to be concerned about distasteful content to boot. SO wish writers/producers would put out more programs worth while like this one. Jill Scott, not just a talented vocalist, a pleasure to watch as an actor. And, the secretary, love her!!! All the actors are great. Glad I 'stumbled' across this channel. Thank you!
Absolutely defintutely!!! Love love love it! Grace cracks me up and Wellington the mini-entrepeneur is such a cutie. Am so grateful to have found the Series again 🙏 it's like a magical pick-me-up especially during these horrible times when nastiness is everywhere ☹️... Ps: No need for a remake, it's perfect as it is! Netflix would perhaps give it a wider audience? 🤔
@@musicandbooklover-p2o Yeah, that's a valid point. That would definitely be a downside. If they did put it on Netflix I'd hope they wouldn't ruin it by doing that.
@@musicandbooklover-p2o Netflix would not be doing it on the Production just adding it to there Catlog. A Produced can add more episodes and keep it like it is and just pitch it all to Netflix to be shown to a broader audience.
Wellington was adorable. Such a big name for a little man! I love this series so much. To think that Jill Scott (Precious Ramotswe), Anika Noni Rose (Grace Makutsi), Lucian Msamati (JB Matakoni), Desmond Dube (hairdresser) and other notables like Colin Salmon (Prime Suspect), Idris Elba, are marginalized over white actors when they have such overwhelming acting talent is devastating to us all. Why was this series cancelled after one Season? This is a gem on par with Downton Abbey. This little world of Gabarone in Botswana so lovingly crafted by Alexander McCall Smith is a special world full of gentle characters, where justice always wins in the end. So beautiful to drive around and suddenly encounter two giraffes or a rhino. We have lost touch with nature in the West. No car chases, or violence, or twisted human beings. I feel renewed each time I visit this place and it has endeared Africa to me. Thank you for uploading. Such a gem of a show!!!
I have the books in a collectors edition hardback, absolutely loved it. Simple and easy imagry. The characters are so much deeper than the sub text. They all treat each other as dynamic human beings, they approach eachother with faith and intent of peace. They are not naturally suspicious until there is just cause pointing to the need to be. I have alway's loved Jill Scott as a performer, great singer too. Protesting a Nigerian dentist? My Deacon at my church is from Nigeria and an anaesthesiologist of dental practice, one heck of an amazing messenger of God. His wife too, amazing lady, so loving, we are in the women's bible study together.
