Dear Ven. Bhikkhu Bodhi, I thank you very much for your lecture. It is very convenient and helpful for me to learn Buddhism dharma while I am at home listening to your teaching through RU-vid. Your lecture is very clear and understandable. Once again I appreciate for your kindness 🙏

Don’t understand how someone can dislike such a discourse. This is the pure teaching. Thank you for the upload.

They disagree with it from a core stance "Jesus is true thus the Buddha is evil" is something I've read since trying to better understand Buddhism. Or it may be they they're afraid of acknowledging something about themselves. Or it may be people who refused to listen to anything without "perfect" audio quality. Who knows.

Thank you for this clear explanation of the path. When I was younger I was always looking for a guide as to how I could live my life and although I was aware of the Noble Eightfold Path, O never examined it. Now that I am, I am amazed at it's capacity for cultivating goodness. I like to think that the path simular to instructions for crossing a rope bridge. To cross a rope bridge you must walk, hold on to the side ropes, balance and not be afraid of heights. If you leave out any of these skills, then you cannot use a rope bridge. You do it all at once.

One of the first series I listened to when I started on the path in this lifetime by Venerable Bikkhu Bodhi. Much Metta and Thanks to Bikkhu Bodhi and to those posting for us all to hear on youtube.

Invaluable teaching, so grateful. Not all learning is easy, but impatience, and therefore ignorance are harder

Meat, vegetables,.... The point is that is for your your own enlightenment to do or not don't a law. At some times The Buddha would say, it really doesn't matter, it is the moment. It is your Karma to do or not.

If you shouldn't be a butcher (right livelihood), but vegetarianism isn't required (is it? I thought it wasn't) then wouldn't it be hypocritical to eat meat but have someone else butcher the animal?
@harryadikelvin9180
@harryadikelvin9180 5 лет назад
If you actively ask the butcher to kill the animal (especially if you actually 'pick' it) then it is considered killing, and is certainly not condoned in Dhamma. However as we are not responsible for the procurement of the meat that has been already there on the fridge of a supermarket, safe to say we are not morally responsible for buying and eating that meat. If we buy veggies, are we morally responsible for all insects and small animals that are killed during the farming process? Of course not, the same logic applies.

I see what he did around 10 minutes into it. He conflated the belief that this life is all there is with the belief that one should hedonistically indulge the senses. Hmm, deft sleight of hand there. Leaving aside speculations about a next life (which I hear a Buddha did), certainly it is the case that actions have consequences, both external and internal. A willingness to abandon disciplining the senses simply does not logically follow from an unwillingness to believe in speculatives.
@harryadikelvin9180

That's why this view is called 'Extreme view'. And one of the cause such view could arise is the belief of 'nothing exist after death'. This doesn't necessarily mean everyone who hold such belief will have the same perspective. It's just the inclination toward such extreme view most of the time comes from that belief of 'one life only'.

A bit too much boring way to explain this interesting and transforming process of our lives. It could have been a more lively, entertaining and inspiring talk. In my opinion, Bikkhu Boddhi's voice is often dull and drowsy. It's a pity...
