Great, now I’ll type up my 10 page, MLA Format, Times New Roman, 12 size font, double-spaced essay about it! Ahem… It’s really good and cool you should check it out Lmao all jokes aside Sonic RPG is pretty iconic I’m honestly surprised it wasn’t mentioned at all. Glad to see the Sonic, Shadow, and Silver show tho I thought I was the only one who remembered that 😂 Also they have a character Seelkadoom who is argued to be the one of the strongest (popular) sonic fan character it’s kind of insane lmao
I did not expect to get this nostalgic over this video I've never considered myself the biggest Sonic fan in the world. The only non-game offically liscenced Sonic media I've watched was Sonic X and I've not touched a game past Adventure 2, other than Mania. But I remembered a lot more of these fan videos than I thought like The Sonic Shorts series, Nazo Unleashed, SMBZ, and several of the flash games. Despite not thinking about most of these fan works for probably close to a decade, I teared up watching this video because this brought back a lot of memories from elementary and early middle school. I'm now finishing my 4th year in college.
At first I was weirded out by the lack of Sonic Robo Blast 2 until I realized this is about nystalgic Sonic media that >most< Sonic fans know about and SRB2/SRB started in the late 90's (before the internet had its surge in popularity) which meant the games never got an initial popularity blast as huge as the ones listed in this so I can understand its lack of an appearance in this video. By the way I'm not like most users on twitter so please correct me if I'm wrong even if its purely through opinion.
Final Fantasy X Sonic, Sonic RPG, Sonic Scene Creators, Nazi Unleashed and the rest of all Sonic RPG games made my childhood. I'll never forget this Era of fan games. RIP Flash Player, you'll forever be missed.
Nazo Unleashed still is, and forever will be a classic. It literally defined the sonic fanbase for a time, dude. SPECIALLY on platforms like deviantart.
It's that beautiful moment when classic and modern fans of Sonic, Mario, and DBZ came together and enjoyed something together. Almost unanimously at that!
...what? No mention of Sonic RPG? Not even in the honorable mentions?! You _dare?!_ YOU *_DARE?!_* Jokes aside, if you haven't heard of it, _please_ look it up. The first 4 or so episodes may be the quintessential definition of the term "rough around the edges", but trust me, it is _really good._ Oh, and uh, I forgot to mention one thing that sets it apart from most of the fan projects here: IT'S _FINISHED._ IT HAD A _FINALE._ I know that doesn't sound special, but just _think_ about the number of fan projects you can definitively say that about.
@@LTDLetsPlays Seel was legit my favorite Sonic villain as a kid, looking back he was a pretty one dimensional DBZ villain not unlike most fan Villains but I still adore what he brought to the table.
These old fan animation series have recently made a resurgence like smbz, Final fantasy Sonic, Nazo Unleashed with Wrath of Nazo and Sonic RPG I remember them from the late 2000s all and I’m glad they all came back Edit: Does anyone remember Victe Double S Animations?
I remember Nazo unleashed and SMBZ but there was also sonic in jaws and all those sprite videos like Demetrius96 gameschamp24 and coodoos17 with shadow unleashed, revenge of the tails doll, amd shade origins
@@DragonspineInfiniteZero I remember Revenge of the tails doll I also remember watching a similar animation involving Silver getting a symbiote and basically becoming Dark Sonic and another with him becoming a werehog
@@hattoripool1533 silver unleashed and also revenge of the tails doll he stole venom from a arcade prize counter after shadow got the staff of darkness, i think it was around when spiderman 3 came out
THIS VIDEO WAS AWESOME!! I've never seen the topic of Sonic fan content handled with such care and inclusion, seeing ya gush about SSMA and Nazo Unleashed in the same tone was absolutely wonderful. Thank you so much for the mention too!! I was not expecting it, but it gave me a big ol' smile on my little face :)
Thank you so much for the positive feedback!! And quality breeds appreciation, I was happy to mention your animations, keep sonic stop motion going strong!
Thanks so much for this retrospective. As a creator in the Stop Motion space, it was really refreshing to see it represented here alongside all these pillars of community fan projects. I feel like we're an often overlooked part of the fandom despite enduring and persisting for many years. Fantastic video! One day I hope a fan work can come along and surpass the incredibly high bar set by Tanic the Hedgehog.
I agree, unfortunately the sonic stop motion community doesn’t get the love it deserves, ESPECIALLY when considering how difficult stop motion is as a whole. What you and Piplupfan77 have done is truly incredible. I can’t wait to see more and thank you so much for the comment!
I really gotta thank piplupfan77 and Sonic Paradox for introducing the rest of the Sonic cast to me bc i didn’t get to play the adventure games or heroes when I was little so seeing them in their videos was such a fun experience
the thing that really hits for me is the Sonic Stop Motion Series from Piplupfan77 I remember watching first few episodes when I was really young, and growing really attached to the characters and writing that took place in the series. And after several years, coming back to watch the final episode really put me in my feels As much as I hold Nazo Unleashed and Sonic Shorts to a very high pedestal, nothing will ever capture the feeling of the Sonic Stop-Motion Series
i havent watched that shit since i was literally in elementary school, over a decade ago, but from what i remember, i really enjoyed that stop motion series because of its sheer absurdity. i vaguely remember wario turning into some godzilla-like creature, or something similar? lmfao that shit was just wild, i gotta go rewatch it all now
Nice look back Nick. Sonic fans are a great, passionate bunch responsible for some of the best fan creations out there. There's something Sonic-related I had been working on, and you've helped bring me closer to the mood to finish it. Thank you.
I miss the golden age. Nazo Unleashed, SMBZ, (Videos I watched of the New grounds upload) That Jason episode of the Sonic Shadow and Silver show has me dying every time I watch it lol Sonic shorts, Stop motion adventures. Ugh. I wish we could go back :) truly a time.
God damn the nostalgia with this video is immense, I completely forgot about the sonic shadow and silver show but the second you brought it up, it clicked in my head along with many others, I’m surprised you didn’t cover the sonic rpg series as it’s easily some of the best fan made sonic things ever and was recently finished around a year ago, you ain’t even gotta make a video on it but I recommend you at least check it out if you can, there’s 10 whole parts.
As a young lad, I searched for anything Sonic related back then. Be it via Newgrounds or RU-vid, I remember most of the stuff in this video. I grew up with a Wii, and played Secret Rings, Black Knight, Zero Gravity (you get the idea) and remember fondly those days on newgrounds even with our super slow internet back then. Good memories.
Thank you for giving a shoutout to the Sonic AMV community. So many people shit on us even though we just like Sonic and like to show it through our passion like everybody else.
I really hope this video gets a lot of traction, it's super well done. ...I also forgot the Sonic, Shadow and Silver Show existed so those memories are back now.
Hi! I'm still around and doing silly Sonic things occasionally. Thank you for all those kind words! This was a wild trip down memory lane. Coodoo let me out of the shed to comment and I have to go back in now, but great video!
Great video, definitely made me feel nostalgic. However, the two first images you credited me on were not done by me. (Also you mispelled my username haha)
No one ever mentions "Sonic's quest for power"(it also predates SMBZ) and it's a shame because it's one of the most earliest sprite animation and everything about it is just crazy awesome.
god this was such a fun watch, incredible work on this nick, really. i loved the vast majority of these as a kid who spent HOURS absorbing sonic content on my family's pc in the late 2000s/early 2010s, so to revisit these as a college student through this video was SUCH a nice nostalgia trip. thank you
personally im an ask the sonic heroes advocate and i remember it like yesterday when i watched episode 1. team 182 have been and will be in my heart, tad upset to see that they werent here but theres so much to cover that i understand why they may not have been here. loved this video, it was amazing to have a good look-back on all these amazing animations, creators and games.
For someone who were born in 2000 and got to experience all this, this really hit me home! Such a blast from the past from my time on Newgrounds and RU-vid! Thx for making the video I didn’t know I wanted ☺️
Watched about everything here mentioned and even the damn sonamy amv videos lmao it's nice remembering all these channels I used to watch and great to see how splendid the sonic community can be, great video man
I'm literally a sprite animator because of all these guys you covered. It's insane how FANMADE Sonic content which is far from being canon can inspire so many people in so many ways!
"This is some Code Lyoko shxt" is honestly the most shocking quote in Sonic Stop Motion Adventures because Code Lyoko referenced in a Sonic Fan Video is unprecedented.
newgrounds, now theres a blast from the past. I used to love going on there when in school and when i got home to play that sonic advance style game, and the one were you shoot them out of a canon. I miss those days.
14:08 Oh hey, I was a part of that channel for some time. You're right on the assumption that it's definitely more of a family-oriented thing than most fan content, for sure. Ask the Sonic Heores actually started off as a side-series for SonicSong182 but (as the view counts suggest) evolved into its flagship series over time. For me, since I played Big the Cat, it was just kind of a fun time to come up with silly lines since Big's nature allowed me to make all my answers comedic to some degree. It's too bad you didn't dig a little deeper because their content also covers areas like plush adventures (which was the main thing before AtSH took off), musicals, and some other stuff as well. Also the OG source for the Sonic, Shadow, and Silver shorts mentioned earlier is coodoo17, if nobody else mentioned that already. Was one of the first pieces of fan content I saw while getting into Sonic in the late 2000s.
Wow, that was an absolute trip down memory lane. Demetrius98 (?) was the sonic sprite creator I remember most. There was another one whose name was Hannah and was from Australia. She primarily used Tiara Boobowski as a stand in, but I don't remember the channel name. I was definitely into sonicsong182. I was always frustrated that a certain character I liked didn't get used in whatever was the newer game, so their content was great for letting me enjoy the characters more. Nazo and SMBZ will always be king though. Easily the best pieces of sonic media out there on sheer impact alone. I'm surprised there was no mention of the tails doll flash games, since it was a prominent character in the Sonic Paradox project and you mentioned Sonic.exe.
I'm so grateful that I was born in December of 2004, cause I was able to live through the two most recent eras of sonic and I'm able to have nostalgia from both 2000 and 2010's fan content and still be young enough to enjoy most recent content like the movies or comics. I love this franchise and (most of) it's community cause of how passionate they are.
I was July 2005 in the Bahamas, I didn't have a next gen console, and I got a 360 in 2012, and I played games online all the time. My childhood was Sonic 3, SA2, Gens, Unleashed, SMBZ, Nazo, Sonic Shorts all that jazz. and I wasn't old enough to care about the newest games at the time like LW or Boom until Forces.
The fact that I've seen, played and experienced all these fan content without being a full Sonic fan back then shows how much I was gonna be one in the future and after almost 8 years, I'm so happy to be one. ❤
The Sonic series is only rivaled by the Mario and Dragon Ball series with the amount of animations, games, sprite series, parodies, and comics that were made by fans. God, do I miss the 2000s era.
I love to see the sonic fan community get so much love! Looking at this incredibly well done video it really shows how much this whole community has done, and makes me even more happy to be apart of it! We have to keep the sonic stop motion community alive as well as the rest of the community cause as time goes on the fans can only get better!!
Holy crap, I actually know every single one of these things, maybe with the exception for AMVs shown and Kalisami’s and Myly14 amazing art. It is an amazing trip though memory lane. I feel like Shadow759 was the one that gave me the most inspiration. In fact, I think it was him that got me inspired to do the skits and fandubs that I do in my channel. Hope I can branch off into more ambitious projects in the future but for now, I got still room to grow.
@IsaacInfernape2000 Oh, right. So you didn't play it and you didn't make your own research, instead, you're just repeating everything your favorite RU-vidr said verbatim like a parrot to seek validation. Noted.
@IsaacInfernape2000 Well, I played Omens without paying a cent? You can easily download it on GameJolt and see for yourself, but you prefer to blindly follow your favorite RU-vidrs.
A lot of the heavy hitters here were to be expected, but there were some deep cuts I'd forgotten about but rediscovered fond memories for all the same. (Forgot all about the scene creator and Sonic Q&A). A lot of these animations inspired me to make my own once upon a time.
Dude literally made a video of my childhood. Growing up, I had no friends. But I had Sonic, and with my crappy computer, I had infinite Sonic fan content. I never felt alone because of this series. 💙
I just appreciate this side of Sonic's fandom, so creative, inspirational, entertaining and was part of a lot of childhoods, back in the day when the internet was wholesome, when we would spend hours watching content made by fans and for fans. Still, there is the dark side of the Sonic's fandom, and believe me, it's better not to see it.
Upon watching this, I decided to replay Final Fantasy Sonic X6. Although it took about six tries, I managed to beat it on Hard mode upon my first time replating it in years!
I remember so many Things from this! However although it may only be from 2017-18 Era, Right here on RU-vid was a channel Called S Sonic. It was mostly Based on using the live chat system in which you could Roleplay. It was a fairly small community, But it still had a Charm in my heart coming after school to get on my iPad to Meet all of my friends online.
I Kinda forgor about “return of nazo”, it was a strange thingy. Semi-Off topic: anyone remember the red-code flash game series?, loved that. Dafrickman vs sonic exe
SMBZ, Sonic Nazo Unleashed, Final Fantasy Sonic X and the Sonic RPG series are imo the Elite Four of the Sonic fan made creations. I Sonic RPG is a game that lasted more than a decade and has one of the best Sonic OCs in the entire community and that one is Seelkadoom, one of the most badass fanmade characters in the Sonic community. It's styled as a turn based RPG and has some Nights Into Dreams characters in it, along with the Sonic characters. The first 4 episodes look really dated and awful, but from episode 5 and onward, the series gets better with every episode. It goes from an hand drawn artstyle to sprite animation and the voice acting is a step up from the last episode. The Final episode took many years to come out, but it was released right before Adobe Flash quits and it was an fantastic experience with an unique battle mechanic. It has the sprite animations for the battles and the hand drawn animations for the cutscenes. That's my shorter version of Sonic RPG. I won't do the full version, since it's too long and we all know how big of an successful influence it has for the Sonic fanbase. Sonic RPG remains to be my favorite of the 4 fanmade Sonic content I mentioned. Have a nice day
Ayy Mario bros Z, Nazo unleashed and sonic paradox was my childhood!. I've never been so scared of Mecha sonic, this series made him so cool. Final fantasy sonic x is also awesome!
Honestly this fan base has its moments that we all would like to forget, but it’s so easy to overlook the best side of the fan base bruh, like you hear the term “sonic oc” and think of things like coldsteel or something but there’s actually so many great ones out there, Fr like Nazo is so effing good I low key wish he was canon, Aeon is obscure but his story, design, and powers are really good and well thought out plus with Sega seemingly going the multiple sonic dimensions route Aeon would actually make sense a a villain, Seelkadoom has a stupid sounding name but his personality and creation is solid, personally I would like to see some fan games featuring those characters as core villains (which the each original creator’s permission of course)
Y'know what nostalgic Sonic series I miss the most? Sonic with a Sword. For those unaware, the short answer is it's exactly what it says on the tin: a Sonic flash animation series in which he has a sword now. (note that this came out _long before_ Black Knight) Long answer: it's a Sonic series that depicts a future in which Eggman won, all of Sonic's friends are dead, and he trains in the way of the sword under the tutelage of new friend and ally Sparkster. (who's just in this world, it's never explained but he's got a grudge against Eggman too) Also, Samus and Earthworm Jim show up later on in the series and Jim flirts with Samus constantly. It's a bit silly, in retrospect.
Hi, I'm the first Silver Voice from Sonic Stop Motion Adventures. I can't believe people still love the show and people even like my first take on the character.
7:31 I became a fan fo sonic colors in 2011 when I was 6 and I watched all the these nostalgic videos like nazo unleashed, sonic paradox and Sonic stop motion adventures
Bruh I remember never liking the sonic zombie series mainly because the animation always creeped me out whenever I tried to watch any of the videos. Mad respect to balena productions tho
When it comes To me. Super mario bros Z is what marked me the most. Despite not understanding english the show was just well animated making just the visual enough To make you understand what's happening.. and my god. Turbo mecha sonic.. that guy.. that menacing feeling you get when he appears and beat up your favorite characters.. at first i thought mecha sonic originated from super Mario bros z. I knew that its not the case only last year after watching the reboot.
5:53 I know Smoov28! He is a buddy of mine! He actually still voices sonic very sparingly now. He actually voiced sonic in a comic dub of mine about a year ago. The link to his channel is in the description. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1KLSjCIofiY.html
The fan games were the best as a kid I used to play it in a crapy old computer to was the only device I had connected to the internet and all I did is play the some games
I myself have made a few pieces of Sonic fan content over the years. Mostly simple stuff like Comic dubs, a few reviews but perhaps the one I have the most fun with is my "Sonic With Voice Acting Series" which my friends and I dub over classic Sonic footage to retell the original saga taking pieces of lore from both American and Japanese continuity: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8xD-gJCFgf4.html
as a person who grew up in the era where fan content was mocked, this video meant a lot to me. i almost teared up at the end with a genuinely heartfelt montage of amvs and fanart i grew up on as a kid. seeing artists online make these beautiful reinditions of sonic in dramatic ways i couldn't ever envision (especially with myly14! i grew up with their works along with drawloverlala!), the editing and precision of stormreddeserts amvs, it inspired me a lot to become the artist i am today. thank you so much for this :)
Beautiful, simply beautiful. It was a blast being part of this video, you did such a great job dude! The best part was your “review” you gave Tanic, I BUSTED out laughing with how professional you made it! Keep up the absolutely amazing work dude!
