I'm in the UK, I bought a BSA Gold Star 650 Legacy Edition, I don't think the BSA is available in the USA yet. The styling of the Gold Star is a nod to the BSA big single of the 1950's, but iT has a modern liquid cooled 652cc DOHC 4 valve motor which was designed by Rotax. A great machine to own and ride that handles the twisty's like it is on rails. The BSA gets noticed wherever I go and I get a lot of kind comments about it, I thoroughly recommend it.
I like the look of that 500. The color scheme and seat are perfect. 85 MPG is fantastic also. Probably would ride the blacktop smoother than the Himalayan, but after watching the Wahoo Wizard review, so dam many bikes ( NOT jealous ) I went with the 22 411 and will drive it into the Vegas dust if the wind dies down. Scram 411 is one of my favorite bikes to ride...Have borrowed several from Baxter's and actually asked them again today for another to ride...for a video, of course. Wahoo! PS I can't prove that 85mpg...was told by a guy...lol!
Lovely things, these 500s. I'm pretty sure the only way to improve on them is to fit a 650 engine, so come on RE, get on with it. The only reason I haven't bought one of those Shotguns is the hope that the factory will get a Classic 650 out sometime soon
I have a RE 500 in this color, I think it's the same year. It has a Hitchcock's peashooter exhaust... it really thumps. I enjoy the heck out of it but it is NOT a commuter ... it will do 80+ but you will end up with numb numb hands and feet after an hour. I test rode a classic 350, what a difference. So comfortable. but with it's struggles at 65mph, it is not a commuter either ( I have a 62 mile commute on I-5) I don't think I will ever sell my 500. I had one before, I put a side car on it... what a great hack... I sold it when I was out of work. So many regrets.
I have a 2020 C500. Comfortable to 55, after that not so good. 80 mph? Only if you drop it out of cargo plane. Love the bike, but your description is not quite right - if I am wrong , post a vid of you doing 80. The speedometer is optimistic - if it says 60, you're doing maybe 55. Like I said, I love mine but it is a backroad bike.
I think I got this bike up to 75 on its speedo, probably 70 in real time. Think I did mention that it was suppose to get 85ish mpg...I can't prove that either. Great bike!
Hmmm ... really big space. To soon to tell us about that space? And you mentioned new town. Hmmmm. Hope you'll be making a complete video of your trip to IL. Now, a question for knowledgeable experts. Why no hydraulic lifters on all motorcycles?
