I LOVE my futur. I believe the secret to happiness with ANY adjustable razor is finding the lowest setting that gives a good shave, not the highest. A macho, size matters approach will lead to disappointment. She is probably my favorite razor.

Bravo for coming back to the Merkur Futur. I love mine (also matte). It provides an amazing shave but does require great (though not faultless) technique. Just put it where you want it and let it do the work. On the higher settings, we are taking straight razor closeness with the safety of a DE. On the lower settings, you can even rush. It's easy to clean, grip, and maneuver. I wouldn't even consider buying another razor at this point. Every video or comment that I have seen that criticizes the Futur always engages in a self-fulfilling prophecy. The person is scared of the Futur for whatever reason and becomes overly cautious, uses faulty technique, or puts too much pressure. Then, they cut themselves and blame the razor or some aspect of it (its weight, its securement). People who try the Futur next are fearful of its reputation and continue the cycle. Lol, or they, like your friend, put a Feather Blade in on too high a setting. Loved hearing about how your products remind you of your father and grandfather. Wet shaving is a special thing/hobby. Look at that shave you got!

I love this scent and the memories it brings; my wife hates it for the same but opposite reason. She has some bad childhood memories that this scent brings to her. So I only use it when she's away. Sig, setting 6 on a Futur is a 2mm blade gap, be thankful you still have a lip. Great shave with it this time. Gap by settings are 1: .838mm 2: .1 07mm 3: .1.372mm 4: .1.397mm 5: .1.676mm 6: 2.007mm

I absolutely love the Merkur and with it I get the closest and most comfortable shaves imaginable. I have nicked my face only once or twice and it was never serious. I actually have had more of an issue with cutting my fingers. I will say that in each case it’s been my own carelessness that caused the problem. I like to flip the blade over between shaves and the extra fiddling with the blade creates more opportunities for the slicing of the fingers. All that being said, I think the Futur is really a fantastic razor. The two blades that produce the best results for me are the Astra Platinum and the Gillette Silver Blue.

Thanks, Buddy! Wow, Great that you have tamed it and enjoy it. It's still the razor that has given me the worst cut, ever. I never leave a blade in my razor. I clean the razor with luke warm water and a super soft tooth brush. Then dry for an hour on the home-made drying dock and dried with a chief's towel. Nothing is left in the bathroom, but the cleaned brush hanging in a home made hangman's noose. Astra Greens is one of the two blade that I cannot use. Like the Voskhod (the second). It gives me rashes, redness, irritation and small blisters/bumps that really hurt. Something in the coating... Thanks for watching! Have a great week! 🤙 #WAD

Congratulations! No blood bath! Nice, clean shave, Sig. I do have the QShave Futur clone. Wet shavers who've used both told me (in videos) the clones were not as aggressive as the Futur. When I shaved with my clone, I started at setting 1 and was able to dial up to setting 3 with no bloodshed. The shave was okay but not as smooth and enjoyable as with my Rockwell 6S. Shaving creams have become my favorite. Mostly because I can just rub some on my face and work up a thick and creamy lather using a synthetic brush. I recently bought a new Nivea liquid shaving cream in a pump bottle. It was too inexpensive not to try. It is one of the best shaving creams I've used. The scent is so-so but it builds a great lather and the residual slickness is great! BTW, I marvel at anyone who would start wet shaving with the Futur AND a Feather blade. I guess he survived because he hadn't watched shaving videos and didn't know any better😂

I really like this razor. I get very good results on settling 2. I can’t imagine trying a 6. I shave every day and 2 or 21/2 is perfect. I like Tabac as well but I use the soap and sometimes the stick.

Nice one Sig. PaulhFilms has a good youtube video on how to dismantle and clean the Futur. I have one and like using it once in a while; I think many who find it is too aggressive may be using it too early in their shaving journey but once you have the muscle memory to get the angle and pressure correct it is a good shaver.

I have the Chinese knockoff of the Future so I don't know how close it is to the original. Like you my experience with it was a bloody mess. At least I was only out about 10 bucks. The head on that razor is massive and hard to maneuver. That is a beautiful brush. For me one of the best aspects of traditional shaving is the memories of the men in our lives, fathers, grandfather's and uncles.

This is my favorite razor. It took the place of my Rockwell 6s that was my favorite. Which is an excellent razor. But the Futur gives me such good shaved. It aggressive and smooth. But tbh the first time I used it I hated it and wonder why it was even made lol. I gave it another go and it was remarkable and has been since.

I use it on a 4 setting with Astra greens. It has a learning curve and its very aggresive. I use it with a very gentle touch with Shave Secret Shave Oil.

Just ordered the Futur 702 Gold and the Qshave clone in black. I have only 10 de wet shaves under my belt and I will heed your example and start my shaves on setting 1 or 0, go slow, light pressure, and short careful strokes. I do rock a 'stache so at least I don't have to worry about cutting off the top of my lip.

Nice! It wasn't my first, but I got a Fasan early in my journey and there was blood! I use straights/ shavettes, aggressive razors, and it still gives me pause when I get out that Fasan. Hahaha! You didn't seem to have any issue with the Futur and got a smooth shave, so that's really great. Probably the next time you use it, you'll have it on six and have the same great results you got this time.

Thanks, Brother! I'd love to try a Fasan at some point. They are expensive and often cracked in the handle; at least the ones I've found. I bought the PAA El Fantasma instead, But haven't used it, yet. I might do a Halloween Shave with it. I tell you, I was all sweating today during the shave and very relieved to get away with it. @@SIGSOLO The El Fantasma is great and I have three different ones. It's pretty easy to use and still has good efficiency. The Fasan is a tricky razor to use and it's not one that I would recommend to anyone.

You know on one that razor is quite pleasant. At least it was for me. Just too aggressive for the average shaver though with mild hair growth. I'm a fan of it though. If I skip a few days. That or my Pearl Flexi OC.

The Futur is my least liked razor. It’s been years since I used it. Too much blade feel for me. Interesting that a Futur setting of 1 equals a 6 on Rockwell. I use setting 3 on my Rockwell. Maybe I’ll give the Futur another chance. Hopefully my technique has improved over the years to compensate for the Futur’s aggressiveness.

Try to wash your face with the warmest water that you can stand. Your breard sounds hard, the warm water will soften your bread and will make shaving easier.

I figure you would be great to ask these questions. How do you feel about Tabac reformulating without tallow. I think it is a shame that a lot of great European soaps like Mitchell's Wool Fat and Tabac did so in the last two years. Do you notice a difference in the reformulation? Also, do you prefer using the shaving cream or the shave soap?

Thanks, Buddy! I haven't tried any of the new formulation, but from what I've heard/seen it hasn't changed the performance much. Hmmm, cream or shave soap. That depends on the maker and scent. The Tabac has the same scent between the puck, stick and the cream. The cream is the easiest to use; but also the most expensive as the puck and stick will last forever. I love the Proraso creams better than the puck (see playlist). Especially the three single edge creams. Wood and Spice is my all time favorite. I find that the trick to get a good lather with creams in a tube is to bowl lather and finish it till it's the normal preferred consistency and then add some extra water... I have many many more soaps than cream/tubes. To be honest It's more of a mood thing for me. Not a definitive answer, I'm sorry.🙃 Thanks for watching! Have a great weekend! 🤙 #WAD

@@SIGSOLO Enjoy brother! Can I say something that I am a bit ashamed about? I am a historian and I have been researching a US soldier from World War 1. I've been being careful to be objective, but sometimes I've gotten very angry at the German empire, their army, and the Kaiser. The more that I've looked into it, I see that Germans today are very different and make a concerted effort to deal with their history. I was impressed at how angry Germans were with the release of the film All Quiet on the Western Front. You've helped me remember the goodness of Germany. I made sure to drink a Weihenstephaner HefeWeissBier and I think by using Tabac and other German products, and reading German literature, I can cleanse my heart of some of the anger I accidentally took on while researching World War 1. Thank you for your kindness. I'll delete this in a few days because I don't want it recorded forever. Sorry that this is weird. But, I do want to sincerely thank you.

@@remfan170 Glad to hear that you have found some different perspectives on the Great War (WW1, now). Seems there's always a flipside to even the worst stories. I was born in Denmark and the Great War and WW2 is very much a part of our history and culture. Just like Israelis are not all baby killing monsters and all Palestinians are not rapists and kidnappers. I've been a soldier for 11 and in the special forces for 9 years and seen the worst humanity has come up with in Yugoslavia, Asia and Africa. Things that would make your blood freeze in horror and disbelief. All that aside I still believe in humanity, understanding and equality. I have to, to stay sane. Stay Safe and don't lose faith in humanity!

#1. I don't have a Mekur Futur. I have its Chinese Doppelganger ; Ming Shi 2000 S. I have read and seen from various independent sources that the "clone" shaves virtually identically to the Original. The reason that I am stating this is to QUALIFY my comment(s). ;-) I have shaved with it on every level with numerous blades without incident. #2. If it is any consolation, you are not the first serious wet shaving RU-vidr to have a less than positive first experience with the Futur. He is the very epitome of Old School. #3. Shave related, I am going to do a "Colors" head to head shave next. Blue Razor vs Red Razor.. #4. Update on the Westworld thing. I have confirmed the ACTUAL color of Yul Byner's shirt IS: dark Slate(gray)Blue. It looks Gray in some production stills and Dark Blue in others . I don't know where the company selling the shirt came up with "Green"???????????????? 4a. Next week I am placing the orders for all the components that I will need for my project. The fabric color that I've chosen with be Indigo. I am several inches taller with longer arms than Bryner. Just think if I had paid $7000. The MS on 6 is like a Futur on 1.5 was what the article claimed. Great video, Sig. I guess you never posted the video of you slicing your lip… I have the Tabac solid puck. Performs okay, but the scent is so-so. I just get old style (or maybe old fashioned) soft powdery notes from it; no tobacco, I’m afraid. As for the Futur: no thanks. Even the Progress is too aggressive for me. I like to relax during my shaves, and hate having my heart in my mouth worrying whether I’m going to injure myself. Who needs that? Honestly, what for? Cheers. 👍🪒

cutting yourself is not fun, but when it does it should not be the end of the world, cut myself with a straight in my previous vid and show how I deal with lifes little hurdles. regards dapper shaves
