The NTS-1 Makes Everything Sound Better!
Today I thought it would be fun to run Lady Free Beat's Roland FP-30x digital piano into my NTS-1 and see how it would sound. Turns out, it sounds great! The various reverbs, delays, and modulation effects of the NTS-1 bring a fantastic atmosphere to the already wonderful FP-30x sounds, and some wilder effects like the NTS-1's bitcrusher really push the piano sounds into heavier territories! When you hit the first note with botcrush and submarine reverb, I actually shouted "Holy Sh*t!" That's some powerful sound.

The NTS-1 is a no-brainer, you should have one in your bag. It's an incredible stereo effects unit AND it has a complete monosynth under the hood. The controls leave a little to be desired but the pricepoint cant be beat.

I wish they made it little bit more sturdy and also the korg drivers are near to impossible to make work for some people. Was thinking of selling the unit because of these reasons, but those reverbs and delays can't be easily replaced with thrice the budget. So I stick with it and hope I can find someone near my place to help me download more algorythms into it.

@@kareljanda3399 I don't disagree. If you're looking for a more robust housing, you can mount the NTS-1 in a eurroack skiff with minimal effort. With some additional DIY skills, you can make an expansion panel that makes the inputs and output jacks accessible from the front as well - i have mine mounted next to my Minidexed unit, also panelized.

@@warpeggioslab Thank you for a great idea! I actually was thinking of making a sturdy case for it which would prevent potential damage. Hope I didn't sound too negative, I'm using the unit daily and therefore I'm little bit worried about its longevity. Just wanted to share my rather neutral opinion about it.

There's an audio filter on the nts1 that you can have for 5 bucks: then you can filter the audio out of your synths/drum machines! Works really well with pocket operators and model cycles, makes them completely different instruments ❤️

Can you link me a video of when you explain the beat clap to sync things together. I'm beginning to meshy video and audio jams together but have a bit of trouble with sync

It doesn't have anything to do with the beat or anything. It's just so I can sync up my voice audio, the gear audio, and the video together in Premiere Pro while I'm editing. It creates a spike in the audio files that I can line up, thus, "syncing" everything. Hope that helps!

And @ 8:50 you discover one of the drawbacks. The level of the in-built oscillator is much higher than the effects signal path.

When i use mine i get a lot of background noise, what equipment do you have to make it sound so clean?

I think i will use mine as an effects unit for the Poly D i hopefully have soon-ish™ coming to me! Its literally the best/cheapest solution for having an effects unit with stereo input. Yes i know, theres the Zoom ms70, but i cant stand the interface. I was having my eyes on the NUX Atlantic, because it does what i need without having to deal with menus. But it doesnt have a stereo imput, so... And im not willing to pay 300 to 500 bucks for an effects unit... (Man, i wish guitars where stereo by default, then we synth guys wouldnt have to deal with that problem xD)

Nice video! Hey, is there a way to make the NTS-1 not shut off on its own? It seems if I leave mine for a few minutes, I come back and it has shut itself off.

The latest firmware update allows you to turn that auto power off in the menu :)

Update the firmware, then you can access the options menu by holding down "reverb" while powering the unit on. Scroll through the options until the display reads "SLP" and change value to zero. Exit menu with "arp" and it should stay on. Make sure you use a good quality USB cable while updating the firmware. I almost bricked my nts-1 because it lost connection during the process. I managed to re-install the firmware somehow but it was a major pain in the butt.
