Yo why does this scene hit so hard though. The music synched with this scene and just, the absolute horror of everyone turning back into dolls suddenly without saying goodbye, and the gasping and choking of the rat king as he stumbles and slashes at clara who has nothing to defend herself other than some fruit? So, so scary and still gives me absolute chills today

Ah, even without nostalgia, this scene is in perfect harmony with the music.

3:25 That tear😢 I love details like that. We see he wants to rescue her but can't 'cause he become a doll again. He is sad and blames himself because he imagines the girl he is love with is going to be killed. She needs him at this right moment and he is unpowerfull to help her. It's even more tragic in the french version because he doesn't say "Clara" but "Mon amour" which means "My love".

You know, when I was little, probably 4 at the time, I watched this without knowing how my mom got a hold of this film that was produced in Canada. And quite amazingly, I've had nightmares from a couple of scenes including this from the movie, and up til now I still get shivers from the mouseking's possesive eyes, can you believe that?!

I miss this movie so much!!!!! My childhood!!

The part when the rat king appered scared me as a kid. Even though the movie had it dark moments, as all kids movies do, this was the darkest moment in the whole movie.

However Clara don't belong in this Land of the Dolls she belong from real world with her family, go home! Uncle Drosselmeier must take her back home, she's not a doll, she's human and it's time to wake up next morning.
