Not ashamed to admit that even though it's such an upbeat song, I can't help but tear up a bit while listening to it because the message is so powerful.
My childhood right here. I'm glad i found this song on youtube, my mom and grandmother played this song all the time. This was a big record back in the day.
My mom and our Bishop use to sing this song in the choir when I was a teenager!!! I will always love this song🙏🏽🙌🏽❤. They both have gone on to rest in the arms of our Lord!! Rest In Paradise Bishop Martin and Mama🕊🤍😇🙏🏽
I’m 20 years old and I seriously love old gospel like this! I heard this song on the radio and here I am!!!👏🏾 Case dismissed, case dismissed, saved by grace👏🏾👏🏾
This is the CLEANEST, best post of this classic. How I miss Eddie & Edgar O'neal. R.I.P.- Michael & Charles Harris, Barney Kimbrough, Doris Ashby, Lavera French. I was at this historic recording. Christ's Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church on Page Blvd. in St. Louis, MO. So many to mention, Malcolm Speed, A. Jeffrey LaValley(whipped the organ on Lord, Strong & Mighty!), Milton Biggham, James Sonny Ward....
+Chuck Flowers I went to Cote Brilliante School with the O'Neals. They were in 7-high and I was in 8-low - there was no middle school, what they used to call "junior high school", back then - but we were in the same classroom, since, back in the '40's, all colored schools in The Lou were always overcrowded. The kids who grew up to be The 5th Dimension were at Cote Brilliante, in 7-low, at that time. The twins were well-known as gospel-singers, even then, but didn't anybody predict that they were going to grow up to be internationally famous! I used to live at 4559 Page from 1942-1950, across the street from Pleasant Green. Where Pleasant Green's parking lot is was where the St. Louis Ice Cream Company building was, in those days, and there was no stoplight there. We used to have streetcars on Page, on Taylor, and on Easton (Martin Luther King). And sycamore trees were *everywhere*! Things are fair different, nowadays.

Chorus 2 Jesus dropped the charges, Jesus dropped the charges, and to Him I belong. Chorus 3 Jesus dropped the charges, Jesus dropped the charges, now I'm free down in my soul. Bridge He dropped the charges, Jesus dropped the charges, (although I was wrong). He dropped the charges, Jesus dropped the charges, (showed me right from wrong). He dropped the charges, Jesus dropped the charges, (and cast them all away); at Calvary I heard Him say, at Calvary I heard Him say, at Calvary I heard Him say, 'case dismissed, case dismissed, saved by grace' Vamp He dropped the charges, Jesus dropped the charges.

They did this song in the film "Say Amen Somebody" about Mother Willie Mae Ford Smith and Rev. Thomas Dorsey. I like this better than the movie version, which was pretty good too.
It was an HBO special a looooong time ago and I can’t find it anywhere. That’s what brought me here. I recorded it on my VCR and wore that tape out watching it over and over.
Alot of people are coming home for the Holidays, alot of people have been set up and are about to be free..Somebody came home today Hallelujah..🙌🏻🙌🏾🙌🙌🏿🙌🏽 "Showed me right from wrong" "Case dismissed saved by Grace" Thank God in advance daily 🙌🏾🙌🙌🏼🙌🏽🙌🏻🙌🏿 Goodmorning I LOVE YOU🦅
Saw this in the cinema in the 1980s as part of a documentary called Say Amen, Somebody. I leapt (levitated?) out of my seat and cheered at the first "Case dismissed! Case dismissed!.." SO powerful. Which is why I went looking for it on RU-vid. : D Thanks for posting this.

They need to do a documentary on black gospel going all the way back to the early 1900. A lot people don’t know the history of this genre it’s very special indeed. Most singers old and new started in the church.
Jesus dropped the charges delivered me from addiction of crack cocaine gave me a second chance to get it right im saved by grace god i love you at calvary i heard him say case dismiseed!!! God thank-you!!!!
Jesus and grandmothers drop the charges, for my mother lets her grandkids get away with stuff me and my brother would have gotten an Mississippi whipping for, and they chant "case dismissed, case dismissed saved by grace and nana" now I know where this little song comes from "at nana's house we free to play" as long as they realize Jesus extends the grace and they mixing in some Jesus I ain't mad at them.
It boggles me how much this sounds like something I’d hear on the radio in the MoTown era. It truly reveals how much popular mainstream music stems from the evolution of the blues through jazz and into something uniquely all those things and more. Here we have the content, which is religious in general, but when you add the specificity of the performers emotional appeal/evangelical joy? It’s a whole other level. Also “the case dismissed case dismissed case dismissed” bridge is the kind of bridge that must drive Stevie Wonder crazy he didn’t write or use. There is an awesome pop hit somewhere that uses a sample from this performance.
