Words that form a sentence Words that form a phrase In a poem or a letter Could not convey the meaning Of what this man has done In a painting On canvas As the colors fading They dictate my mood Can you see me Are you near me I find myself on canvas I find myself on stage Can you see me Are you near me And I long to know you're real And I long for you to be part of me I long to know you're real And I long for you to be a part of me In the fading twilight I sit and stare at her In all her beauty Her beauty You know I have to wonder Why all great men must die And leave their treasure They leave their treasure
Cus they were a one hit wonder in alternative. They weren't mainstream. And that's fine. Good music like this should only be heard by people who appreciate it.
between them and 'OURS' unless you live in NYC or NJ. Then you've probably heard of OURS and Jimmy Gnecco. if you haven't, i guarantee you wont' be disappointed!
You are absolutely right there. What a great sound. There was a Canadian band, out in the early 80's, that didn't get the recognition it deserved. The band was Breeding Ground. If you can find them on here, give them a listen. They were great.
I was a big fan. Had their first album, or their one and only album, for which this song is from on cassette back in high school. This was played on (college) radio quite a bit in SF Bay Area.
Brian Kelly Holy shit, me too. Loved The Church. Haven't listened to Starfish in the longest time! I've been trying to purge my memory, lately, of as many bands (mostly obscure) as possible that I loved. Stuff like Railway Children, House of Love, Ride, Stone Roses, The Wonder Stuff, OMD, New Order, Crowded House, DM, The Hollow Men, Lightening Seeds, Big Audio Dynamite, Hoodoo Gurus, Echo and the Bunnymen, etc.
One of the best shows I ever saw had OMD opening up for New Order. I've seen almost every one of those bands live - some of the best sounds ever. Mode, House of Love, Crowded House - you've got some fine taste in music :D
The opening riff, the breakdown at 1:50, the guitar solo, make sit one of the best alt-pop songs of all time, ranking there with Cure's Just Like Heaven
@@Chrisamusic1 I googled and I'm listening now. I still don't get it. Is it the way the pretty notes go back and forth between up and down notes? I love electric guitar and this Ocean Blue song is one of my favorites from college when I saw them play at UC Davis 30 years ago.
I was lucky enough to land in a Music Theory class my senior year in high school. Honestly, before that I took music for granted but it truly is another language in and of itself. The Ocean Blue gets it!!!
These guys still sell out venues in the indie circuit to this day. Their music seems to be remembered way more positively than many groups who were more mainstream than them at the time. I got to say, as someone who's relatively new to their catalog, I really dig this song.
The middle chord progression starting at 1:51 is just haunting and beautiful. For me, it makes the whole song and I always look forward to it when I hear this song.
What a beautiful song!! I grew up in the 80's and I never heard of these guys! Heard this by chance. Just goes to show......it's never too late to discover hidden gems!
I saw them in concert around 1990 "by accident" -- they were the opening act for the Psychedelic Furs. I instantly became a fan and bought all their CDs.
Yeah, I agree , it’s got a great flow to it,Pounding Bass, Haunting guitar,Great lyrics...drums..Keyboards.. well crafted song, well engineered.. everyone seems to be in the pocket!
Like Book of Love, this band was one of the best things to come out of Pennsylvania. Oddly, the PA band everyone seems to remember from the 80s is The Hooters who had the one hit "And We Danced". Tragic. Especially considering the numerous hits that Ocean Blue and Book of Love had all over the place on college radio. IF only the mainstream radio stations outside of PA had found these bands.... Regardless, we're all blessed now thanks to RU-vid. Shout out to 103.1 The Wave in Salt Lake City for continuing to play these kinds of bands every day. You guys at The Wave are awesome, especially Andrea and the guy behind Chet's Casettes!!
There's a certain beauty ,elegance and power that encapsulates this song. It's been 30+ years since this came out. Still holds up against anything currently released. This song, could be released now...and it would be huge. The guitar work is superb, the drumming is precise and strong. Also, the production of this song, is simply superb. An under appreciated gem.
How dis this NOT blow up and get GIGANTIC?? The Ocean Blue shined so brightly for a very short 2 album life span. Many great tracks, but this just outshines everything...the guitar, guitar, guitar. Dammit, bring back the 90s NOW!
This was played a decent bit on MTV around '88/'89 and I loved it, but it was mining the earlier territory of the Smiths/EchoBunnymen, etc., and grunge was about to be heavily pushed by the music industry as you probably know. We can look back on this now and appreciate its awesome timelessness.
3 albums, Beneath the Rhythm and Sound was also on Sire before they got dropped. Then they signed to Mercury and released "See The Ocean Blue" which was a more rough and tumble sound, but still poppy (the song Slide was very much their old sound still). They continued to release good stuff, Davy Jones' Locker, Waterworks, Ultramarine, and the newest one is Kings and Queens / Knaves and Thieves. Still good stuff.
Recuerdos bailando en Bauhaus de Miraflores en 2003,2004, especialmente los miércoles. Aunque al día siguiente había que trabajar y estudiar, igual lo importante era bailar la música que realmente te gusta. El tiempo vuela...
A classic of that pivotal late 80s/early 90s sound. I remember this hit the airwaves not long after the Bunnymen broke up and the guitar riff, particularly the solo was just what us indie college kids needed to help us think of what Will Sergeant would be playing if the Bunnymen were still around. That is said as a compliment to this band. I cannot recall ever hearing a weak song from them. I read years ago that the lead singer became a lawyer after they disbanded. And this is EXACTLY how indie college kids looked around that time.
God, what memories. Was listening to new music and heard this the very day I heard Toad The Wet Sprocket. That whole era was so distinct. The Sundays, Echo and The Bunnymen, The Church, The Cure. There was a mystery and a magic to the vibe that has not been duplicated. It was around this time that I discovered Acid House and Trance and I never looked back. But this was one of those last conventional bands I recall loving.
This is the song that made me fall in love with them back in High School. Got to see them on the 1990 Laughter Tour with the Mighty Lemon Drops. This still sounds great today.
Saw them at Mississippi Nights (St. Louis) in 1990! They opened for The Mighty Lemon Drops and killed! They played their entire debut album and then showered the crowd with Hershey candy bars. What a fantastic sound. So clean but full. Every instrument is perfectly balanced--Schelzel's voice, the chiming guitar, the steady bass, the piano slipping in and out, and I love the cymbal bell work. Damn, so great to slip into this song again.
Saw this band at the Vegas venue called Calamity janes back in the late 89's. During the break sat and drank with the lead singer, very cool guy . Totally expected them to be a huge band. Best wishes for the journey they took.
My brother and I had a cd of self-titled and cerulean that we listened to every night and to this day are still two of the most nostalgic things to me.
I was watching Cowboys/ Eagles on Sunday Night Football and *this* song came on! I was like, that's The Ocean Blue! Now I got 'em on repeat on Spotify. Memories of college. Great memories. The boys from Hershey made some wonderful music. 👌🏽
I'd heard this song once on the radio back when Richard Blade was a dj..heard it again yesterday on Sirius Xm n instantly when back to the past!! Was only a kid than..this is a great song!!
Beautiful song that I love from late 80's. The guitar talent, as well as the awesome drum not to mention the lead singer's singing. Nowadays, sadly, they don't make high quality songs and perfect music like they used to.
Thank you 120 minutes on MTV back in the late 80's The only way I would ever hear of this band. Now I have all of their music. One of the best underrated bands of all time.
Met singer when he was backstage at the church gig along time back in the 80’s said to him I know u ocean blue he looked surprised & smiled at me !!!! Thanks ❤️👍😻☮️🙀😹🇺🇸
I would stay up late on Sunday nights, alone in my room and listen to real music and see real videos. Like this one from The Ocean Blue, Thank you 120 minutes. You were a product of a better, vanished age.
What a great band. I remember buying Cerulean at my local Strawberries and listening to it over and over… a little Echo and the Bunnymen, a little Housemartins, but also completely original.
I was listening to my Joe Jackson Pandora station and this lost gem popped up, The striking of the cymbal's bell is the sound that made me fall in love with the song.
+Roxy Rivera -aye grossera. Smiths, roxy music, echo, cult, Bauhaus, cure, English beat etc all kick ass, but you are saying Alice n chains, sound garden, pearl jam and smashing pumpkins suck is a straight up stupid and ignorant comment. Stop trying to be cool because you are not mija.
First of all I never said those groups sucked so I apologize if your weren't fully able to comprehend my comment. Second of all you are the ignorant keyboard warrior trying to be cool with your insults. I appreciate grunge for what it was, it didn't last long and you left out one of the best groups from that genre, STP. Stop trying to be funny because you are not.
+Jesus Escatiola Take it easy there Quickdraw, my Comment clearly says (and is clearly directed at) +Roxy Rivera, who it seems has since deleted her comment, so it looks like I am not the one with troubles comprehending. HER comment said something along the lines of Grunge sucking some kind of balls, may have been donkey or horse, but whatever the case, Roxy had a stupid comment that's now gone. But hey, I gave you a thumbs up just so there's no hard feelings sweetheart.
Please check out the entire album of you can. There are a number of good songs on it: "Vanity Fair," "Drifting, Falling," "Ask Me, Jon," and "The Office Of A Busy Man." Nice stuff. I have "The Ocean Blue" only on audio cassette, but still listen to it.
The drumming in this song is sooooo damned efficient, putting little accents where needed, like raisins in a bread. No need for complicated 7/6th shuffle movements combined with Creole traditional music drumming like Jeff Porcaro of Toto fame would have proposed. This song just needed a strong, simple beating, with lots of caresses of the cymbals on the right spots. And those delicate extra's by the keyboards, ohhh oh again so to the point. No unnecessary Wakeman-tralala, just art deco-ish, simple notes for the right atmosphere... Wow !
One of my favorite all time bands. I saw them on the Cerulean tour and also the last 3 years including last year when they played their 1st 2 albums in their entirety
