Was introduced to these guys by a couple of mates last night and have been going through their material for the last 9 hours, almost forgot the beauty and excitement that comes with new GREAT music. Triassic has got me the most so far, massive Oceansize feel in that track 🤘
Theory: The clean guitar melody in the beginning of Eocene is the same as the one in the Bridge of Jurassic|Cretaceous, because it's supposed to resemble mammalian activity during the Mesozoic. The first mammals were small rodent-like animals who were nocturnal to avoid the dinosaurs, and I think the reoccurrence of that melody (which is very trippy and subtle, just like the existence of mammals during the Mesozoic) is a metaphor that mammals begin to rise and primates start to evolve. Like, this one melody made it through the chaos that was Palaeocene. It survived. The Ocean's Albums are always perfectly composed and thought-out in every detail.
Maybe you are right, or maybe you are overthinking it. It is not the first time The Ocean uses the same phrase or melody in various songs of an album. Anyway it's an interesting point of view from you. Cheers! to the best band ever!
I dont know for me interpretation is just interpretation Just like we interpret nature It being wrong doesn’t make the interpretation any less beautiful. (What i dislike thought is what is done in some classes where you take poetry smash it’s skull in to death with a big ass rock skin it, cut it up put it in a bowl shuffle it and pull an explanatory text out of it. It’s fucking necromancy and make me want to bring in roadkill and use it to talk about life in nature to make a point Sorry let my frustration talk a bit too loud at the end there
@@profefelipemedina3753 Is very usual to reuse some melodies in conceptual progressive albums, nothing new here. Haken do it in every album, even using melodies of previous albums.
@@reedy_9619 What makes the fascination of dissecting poetry even funnier to me is that most poets you "learn" from in class tend to have a reason, thought process or a particular topic about their work which they often openly discuss at lectures and so on. Why any form of poetry/art requires minutus detail scraping is beyond me. As you mention though, interpretation is just that and people will form their own thoughts and personal feelings behind any work of art or topic. We've all had the feeling from a piece of art; be it music, painting, poems that the art was made for you and you alone. The feeling you get when you're listening to a piece of music from a relatively unheard of artist and you get the sense you may be the only person in your entire country that is listening to it is an example. Another being a song you will listen to regularly but for some reason will never share it with anyone. That feeling of personal ownership or deep emotional connection to a work of art no matter what it is, is likely the reason behind some questionable analysis of poetry you might hear in a classroom or a lecture hall. Some interpretations are just ugly. However, OPs was not, and was rather quite beautiful.
@@giantrobot5804 It's depth. Sound's like you prefer more shallow stuff. I along with others find shallow stuff less than satisfying ...most of the time. There are times it's nice to listen to shallow less dense music though for sure. Perhaps you can imagine it as an image with less depth of view allowing you only to see a few meters vs another in which you can see layer after layer all the way to the horizon and people arguing over what they see.
Saw them live in Oslo a few days ago. I didn't know any of their songs, but they were so awesome live that I looked them up immediately. They're talented, have a great stage presence, and their music speaks for itself. My favorite of this album is definitely Miocene/Pliocene, which was breathtaking live. Not gonna lie, I was there for Karnivool but the Ocean definitely stole the show!
Haha, its similar for me. I wanted to go for Karnivool the year prior, sadly i red that the tour got delayed yet again. Lateron I checked out the new date, saw that they will be accompanied by The Ocean and I was hyped immidatly, since i already knew them. Srsly underrated group, they have a very unique attempt to metal. Their vocalist is a god damn machine, his screams are haunting. And i agree, Mioscene//Plioscene is an absolute beast live. The athmosphere, undescribable.
I was traveling with Intronaut new album...the next recommendation was this album. I was intrigued by the album cover, and I thought this shit has to be good...and how much I love discover these gems, this makes a man rich! Insane record! Incredible trip! Another favorite.
This band makes such dynamic songs and it’s absolutely beautiful to hear so many different sounds in one song. They can go from hard hitting to chill flawlessly. Amazing 💜🤘💜
Niiice. Had always trouble to describe people how they sound like besides of saying that they're amazing but tool meets gojira is actually very fitting👌😁
@@divinefallfromgrace On the nose with those comparisons. Best album in the last decde for me. Phenominal. Gets all my "metal-music spots" in all the right places.
@@GodlyMullet Imperial Triumphant holds the top spot for me right now with Ulcerate at number 2. I'll need to give this a few more listens before deciding its place. Its fucking great tho
@@zachward6497 For sure Triumphant, Ulcerate and this album should be in top 3! I have had high hopes about Gojira, but after I heard the new single, I don't think so, not anymore! Also, if you a fan of funeral doom - new Bell Witch is from another universe!
@@FaceOfOden Bell Witch made a helluva album, not my favorite funeral doom release this year though, that would go to Convocation. Epic shit. This year has been full of top notch releases. Some others in my top 10 are Pyrrhon, Paysage D'hiver, The Spectral Lore and Mare Cognitum split, Atramentus (More Funeral doom), and Gaerea. I'd rec any of them dude. After one listen of this album though I'd put it top 5 for now. I see it only moving up though.
I have no words, it's fantastic. I was in love with the last album, after three time, I find this one incredible too. Love from France, I bought my ticket to see you in Nantes, hope it won't be cancelled...
Haven't heard yet, but it's got some competition. Ulcerate and Imperial Triumphant killed it this year. Very eager to hear what the the ocean brought to the table.
Now if only they could tour again. Was lucky to see them in support of BTBAM back in '11. Venues are dying left and right, it sucks. Just wanna go to shows again.
They have tentatively scheduled a tour in for early next year. Depending on what the state of the world is, of course. They have said that if it needs to be rescheduled for later next year they all tickets will be transferable 🤘🏻
Congrats on having a species named after you guys. You are probably over the moon! I've been listening since about 2005, and I can't get enough of your sound. Or the science.
@@patrickbalkany7989 there was a brittle star fossil discovered. Due to their excellent work in raising awareness to ecological time periods, it was named Ophiacantha oceani, after the band.
dislikes are from those who dislike it, I really don't understand why these regurgitated comments always get traction. Just enjoy the damn thing and stop caring about others.
@@franlovelsimic8421 Maybe because the dislikes came before the tracks went live, so they hadnt heard it and therefore couldnt know if they disliked it.
First listen through, and I think it's safe to say this is my favourite The Ocean album EVER. And that's sayin' something, as the likes of 'Anthropocentic' and 'Peligial', and others, are masterpieces. Fuckin' hell, Robin, Loïc et. co., outstanding work!!
Brachial. Furios. Graziös. Erhaben. Leck mich am Arsch is dass en Brett. Bravouröses Werk dieses geilen Kollektivs. Danke für diese Reise seit Aeolian.
@@declanpossnett2481 depends who you've purchased from the ocean/palegic records stuff will come from mainland Europe but I bought a t-shirt and CD from metal blade records in Ohio so its been posted but not left the US yet.
@@joaquinnievas9079 I don't really see the resemblance to Tool, now that you mention it I guess they are an inspiration for some arrangement & composition choices but I would have never thought of it if you didn't mention it
From the moment I heard them I said they sound like Neurosis, Tool, and Mastodon had a baby. So many layers of prog metal it is the best I have heard to date.
Just preordered my CD bundle with the shit! This is my most anticipated album of the year. I am so hyped for this record guys! You've already been crushing it with the songs you already released!
Almost an Oceansize-like sound at times. Very tasty. Could do without the extended moments of harsh vocals. This band sounds tremendous with clean vocals through the impassioned wails but I feel like the growls grate just a bit. Incredible musicality and songwriting though. Seeing this band with Katatonia, Soen, Cellar Darling, Oceans of Slumber in December 2022.
I honestly have no words. I am already curios to see what will they plan next. Best band in the world. Robin Staps: A man with a vision. Magnificent band
A band drops an album and you’re already wondering about their next one? He he same here. Already wondering what the next Haken album will be like, and of course the next Ocean album too👍
@@t7683-u1x The ocean is telling a narrative right now that has spanned since Precambrian and it has already been announced that the next two albums are a conceptual sequel to Phanerozoic, which makes me think they will cover a lot of future concepts like space and the future of humanity
Both 2020 and 2021 have had a lot of killer albums from types of Metal bands, from Iron Maiden to Gojira to Whitechapel to The Ocean. Bloody great time to be alive for us metal fans.🤘🏻
My God, long time not listened some of your sound -since Pelagial... You guys hypnotizes me eveytime, no useless demonstration, everything has a meaning, it tells stories, love your sense of composition, and your sound. A mix of everything i love, thanks fot his.
How am I just now discovering this band? Happened across the Pelagial album and it blew my fuckin hair back. I can’t devour the rest of their albums fast enough. Need more ears.
