I've watched this episode a half dozen times in the past week, entirely for this scene. Tony Randall is a brilliant physical comedian. His reaction to saying "midget" is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
On the On the Brady Bunch, there is a dream sequence when the kids are visited by aliens from a UFO. I'm pretty sure that's the couple playing the roles of the two aliens.
The Odd Couple is my all-time favorite sitcom! Jack Klugman and Tony Randal were perfect in those roles. Compared to the empty trash on TV today it is a true classic.
I was actually scrolling through to see if a right-winger would have to get all weirded out. Yup! 😄 Your propaganda leads you to believe that the good guys have no sense of humor. We definitely do but we also have good manners and were taught to be moral and kind to others by our parents. I just can't imagine going through life getting up in arms because we're told we shouldn't offend others. What spoiled brats. Man! 😄
That "drop your glove" bit, followed by the handshakes, would be the centerpiece of most comedy scenes; but "Everybody say MIDGET!" is a moment for the ages.
Great highlight of the incredible skill of Tony Randall. The five other actors in the scene are just props for him to control, the entire scene is him.
Not to mention, he was a theatre actor, so of course he knew how to project his voice for all to hear. And when Jack Klugman lost a vocal chord to throat cancer and they began touring again, Tony made sure Jack had a microphone so they could hear him without him having to strain his voice.
🙋🏼♀️ Gotta ❤️ the “subtle” Felix sarcasm too 🤷♀️ ... @2:12 “She’s (Edna) gonna HELP me”! ... 🤦🏼♀️ “by standing on a WIRE.” 🙆🏼♀️OMGOSH SOO FUNNY!! 😅💦😂
@@johnerwin9024 Agreed. Today's idea of "fashion" is choosing what you want written on your tee-shirt and which brand you want to advertise with your sneakers, all in shades of gray.
I always felt, the "drop your glove" was a genius line only sneaky felix could come up with,in order to make them feel they weren't out of the ordinary by being shot.
Honey, do you feel heat in the back of your head? When I first saw this episode I thought I was imagining how hilarious it was. Are your soles too thick?
@@kathyflorcruz552 I was waiting! I had to scroll down for the non-PC police, AKA Deplorables. 😂😂😂😂. I knew one of you would say that. It's so important for you all to go out of your way to be rude and ill-mannered. 😄
One of my favorite Odd Couple episodes. No one did it better than Tony and Jack. The perfect comedic pairing. Their timing impeccable. Pure, unfiltered comedy at its very best.
I know The Odd Couple was never good at continuity, but it always bugged me how Felix's daughter Edna was just a little girl who had turned 10 one season, and a blossoming teenager in all the rest. That's quite a growth spurt.
Isn't it funny?! Felix trying so hard not to let them know that he felt they stood out, yet practically every line he said drew attention to the fact that they were short. Sort of like Archie bunkers' backhanded compliments to various different people of other nationalities or cultures.
No it isn't. Lasted five years, won Emmys for Randall and Klugman, nominated three times for outstanding comedy series, still popular in reruns, both characters are icons... Explain how that translates to "underrated"
I wonder if the term "midget" was as offensive to them then as it is today. Is "dwarf" truly preferable? I think "vertically challenged" is an insult. And "little person" sounds childish. Forget "munchkin". What's so bad about "midget"?
I watched this when new, while I was a kid. I think it was canceled in 1975. Felix's daughter acted like a moron in this ep. This show was hilarious. I remember the movie of it in theaters. I'm surprised this isn't on MeTV or Antenna.
The he said you perfect normal Wilfred wow😁😄😳👍 throw something in the floor don't starring 😆 the he said little people😳😕😄👍 anyway Happy New Year to everyone and try to smile always no matter what you going in life because life is short😁🦃🦃🦃👍
I have said that line "Are your shoes to big" a gazillion times, in my life (mostly when it had nothing to do with anything, at the moment) because of THIS episode. I saw this episode when I was probable 9/10 (early 1980s) as a rerun - that line cracked me up. If I am not mistaken THIS episode originally aid in 1972.
What are you talking about? Season 5 was as brilliant as seasons 2, 3 and 4. The first season was the only weak one. The show took off once they went three camera and added an audience.
