Hi. The YT algorithm sent me your video and I watched the many mistakes you did in the container set up and that's why you have trouble to close and open the doors. You can't close the doors 'cause the container is not leveled at all, logs on the grass are not a appropriate foundation for containers for several reasons. You should build a proper 4 points (at least) concrete or solid blocks foundation perfectly leveled. If you hit the handle and the locking bar like you did, you're going to bend it and that's it. Also, lubricate the hinges, the locking bar casing and the cam and the cam keeper. I'm pretty sure you're going to reset up everything. Sorry. Good luck

Hi, thank you for your comment! The geometry of the container is broken since it fell off the ship. That is also the reason why it has so much dents - it was on the sea bottom. Therefore even if it had been on a concrete foundation, this wouldn't have helped. I used a laser to level it. And yes, the right locking bar is already bent and I will change it later. I will also weld it and paint and listen to your advice regarding lubricating all the necessary details and I'll make a separate video about it further. Thank you!

@@TheOffRoadRanch if it had hit the sea bottom they would have left it there , it's just been bumped and knocked many times in it's years of usage , it is in remarkably good condition . The locking bars get bent by stupid people using forklift trucks to close the back doors

@TheOffRoadRanch 2 месяца назад
Yeah, I also think it's in a good condition, the main thing is that it is dry. I'll definitely change the locking bar. Yet there is multiple damage not to the doors, but to all surfaces of the container. Also the documents included at the auction show that it fell overboard and was pulled out and unloaded. Perhaps they do it sometimes.

Hey you. The way to close container doors is to bring both handles together at the same time, if one handle resists, try pulling on the other handle a little harder, the doors should close without having to use so much effort and strength. Wish you well and success on your journey. Kind Regards Simon

Simon, thank you a lot for your instructions! Now I do it much better and quicker using the same algorithm you described. Still the problem is that the right locking bar is bent that is why it is hard to close it anyway. I will change it to the straight one later.

Hello from Canada :) Great job young lady if they are bent a little it's hard to close, But both handles have to close at the same time to make them work right :) Lot's on room for a workshop smart thinking ! Keep up the good work :))👍

Thank you for support! Now I close it better even with a bent one, but I'll change it soon. I also consider it as a great workshop! 😇

😅 Hi, I think you need to fix the locking bolt on the container before you completely break the door :). It seems to me that probably depending on past use depends on the life span. But also on the owner's care of the container. And in general, the construction of containers is a global trend. Container hotels and cafes are investing a lot of money and they last a long time and are popular and in demand, and can be very organic and architecturally attractive. For example, the most famous, if my memory serves me correctly, is Sea Containers London and it is both a restaurant and called, plain and simple. And you know, in general hotels and restaurants all over the world: USA, UK, Germany, Chile, Malaysia. I've also stayed in Amsterdam in a hotel like this. I've seen in Belgium at Sleeping Around or Portugal at the Inn Box. So it's a great option and you can improvise with it further, especially if you take care of it.

Thank you for your comment! I understand that with such pressure on a locking bar I'll break it quickly. So I'll change it in the nearest future. That's true about using containers for hotels, restaurants, dormitories etc. That's great you had such experience. I'd love to try to stay in such places. I even thought to build a house out of containers but I don't have such an expertise and it would be very difficult in my environment. So it was just an idea. But I'd like to try such a technology of building. :)

The best way is to remove the locking bar nearest the door hinge, then you only have to lock one, very simple to remove, just need a couple of wrenches (spanners) and some determination.
@TheOffRoadRanch
@TheOffRoadRanch 2 месяца назад
Thank you for advice! I also think to remove it and to change with the straight one since I think it is undesirable to have only one locking bar on the main door. 🤔

Hit the pin on the handle bracket NOT the handle , and find a strong pipe wide enough to fit the handle inside for extra leverage , then use a hydraulic jack to bend the locking bar straight . Trucker with many years of experience with shipping containers

I decided not to break it even more. I close just one locking bar and the bent one will be changed. Thank you for advice with physics laws. I will use this logic in my future work.

My congratulations with a purchase! Will you insulate it? In this way temperature drop will be less? You wrote it is 50 degrees in daytime. So in winter it will be the same weather as outside. Is this difference good for tools and materials? Do you store there oil? Do you store there tools with batteries? And you are not able to store fuel (gazoline) there. It will explode for sure.

@TheOffRoadRanch 2 месяца назад
Thank you! I was thinking about insulation but for now it is quite difficult for me. Yes I know in winter it will be the same cold as outside or even worse. I don't store there anything that doesn't meet such requirements. Of course I don't store gasoline there. It may burn at the temperature of 30 degrees Celsius in certain conditions. I don't store batteries as well. I store oil that is suitable for storing in such conditions. That is a good topic for talking about in next video about container 🙏🏻

The container is not on level ground , those logs are going to rote and sink into the ground and should have put down a concrete pad don't care what y'all say , but hey the girl has the right idea for storage
@TheOffRoadRanch
@TheOffRoadRanch 2 месяца назад
Hi! The logs were leveled with the laser. The problem of closing a locking bar is that it is bent because this container fell off from the ship to the sea bottom. These logs are 100-years old oak so I don't think it'll rot in the next few years. I did it because making foundation is too expensive for me at the moment yet I know that oak is one of the hardest wood. Also I chose elevated and relatively dry place and I treated the wood against rot. So I'll see later how it is going and will move the container to foundation if necessary. Thank you for your care and advice!
