God I love this song. Heck I love the whole catalog. Catchy tunes and fairly light but still thoughtful lyrics about often serious subjects. "Late at night she knocks on my door, drunk again and lookin' to score. Now I know I should say no but it's kinda hard when when she's ready to go." --Self Esteem
You need to listen to some OMD songs from the 1980's Like Maid of Orleans,Enola Gay,Genetic Engineering, Souvenir,Tesla girls, and Forever live and die.
I like that you point out The Offspring’s versatility between songs, as “Pretty Fly”, “The Kids Aren’t Alright”, and “Why Don’t You Get A Job?” are all on the same album, 1998’s “Americana”. I also highly recommend “Hammerhead”, “Come Out and Play”, and “Gone Away”, as they are some of their strongest songs both musically and lyrically.
@@underthetrees4780 I was gonna make that same comment. There aren't a lot of albums throughout time where you can just press play on song one and let it rock from there. Every single song is great. Only a few artists have pulled that off and the ones who have only did it once. It's quite a feat.
Yes, that is Universal studios. They walked across the town square from Back To The Future and many other movies and tv shows at one point in the video. More Offspring: - All I Want - I Choose - Self-Esteem - Come Out and Play - Original Prankster
Jamel, McG, who directed this video along with "Pretty Fly for a White Guy," did a lot of good videos in the late 90s before he became a movie director (such as "Charlie's Angels" back in 2000). Fun fact: Carmit Bachir played the woman who gets fed up with her boyfriend near the end of the video. She was one of the Pussycat Dolls. You may also recognize Bob Eubanks in the Newlywed Game parody in the middle.
I remember the first time I heard this song, and I was already in my 40s. "My friend has a girlfriend and he hates that...." BAM! Oh this is going to be hilarious. And then when the instruments chime in.... BAM #2! OMG this is a riff on the Beatles Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da. These guys work well on so many levels.
We need some of their old stuff. 1st album: Smash. The songs from that one that were big were "Gotta Get Away" and "Self Esteem," the latter being my personal fave.
@@paulshaw9953 Didn’t realize they had a self titled debut I always thought Ignition was their first album I’m not sure I even know any off that first one. Ignition was the first song and album of theirs I owned. Glad I know now though so thanks
"Kristy are you doing okay?" has a really deep message and doesn't get enough respect. I love the Offspring because they have great lessons in very driven music.
It's an homage to "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da". The melody is a take off, and the subject matter is exactly the same. Being in a relationship when one partner just wants to sponge off the working one.
The Offspring has done some major evolving since their early days. These are more of their “fun” songs that a lot of fans don’t like. But for those of us that have been following them from the beginning, we’re used to stuff from their first album (Smash) that has more of a hard punk feel to it. Go back and watch the video for “Self Esteem” or “Come Out and Play” to see what I’m saying. Would love to get your reaction to that one! lol Keep these great videos coming and for spreading the love and goodness on your channel in these crazy and rough times. Peace!
I played in a band called jungle fish from Orcutt California and we played with and we played with The Offspring several times in Santa Barbara and in Los Angeles fun times
If you're doing the Offspring I reccomend "Come Out and Play". Also, it's a slightly obscure one, but I really recommend "By the Skin of my Yellow Country Teeth" by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah
Ahh we dedicated this song to a friend's soon-to-be ex-wife. Claimed she couldn't work because was "going to school" yet she never attended class or submitted the work but then flipped out because he was working two jobs and "didn't spend enough time with her". That kind of relationship where you had to bite your tongue aa a friend until they were ready to admit it wasn't working anymore.
This album has a lot of ‘fun’ tracks. The video for ‘She’s got Issues’ is very well done. It’s not my favourite offspring track but worth a watch for the video.
❤❤ !! The Offspring is LEGENDARY !! The lead singer has a PHD in Molecular Biology !! So not only a Great singer, he is also a Dr. !! That's what's up !! Love it !!
The Offspring were a thing 20+ years ago, I still have the original cassette of their first album (also on vinyl). Bryan Keith "Dexter" Holland has a PhD in Molecular Biology. In 2004,[17] Holland launched his own brand of hot sauce, Gringo Bandito. The Offspring were originally called Manic Subsidal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Offspring
Keep in mind, the song came out in 1998, Dot-Com Boom. At the time, the perception was jobs were everywhere. It may rub people a little bit wrong in the middle of the pandemic. That said, if you can deal with that, it's a hilarous song, and it's not hard to think of some people it might have applied to at different points in my life.
Love the Offspring.....saw them live for the first time last year before things got shutdown....it was an acoustic set....up until that point, I just kind of liked them....having seen them live now....gotta' say....they are just as good live....and they played some covers as well.....FANTASTIC and one of my favorite concerts I've been to in last 5 years (I was averaging about 25 a year before lockdown). They have a brand new song out called "Let the Bad Times Roll"...worth a listen for ya man. Of their older stuff, my favorite is hands down "You're Gonna Go Far Kid"
I know I’m late, but in case no one else has posted it, this tune is an homage to Simon and Garfunkel’s Cecilia. Probably one of the best a cappella tunes of all time.
Before the pandemic I went to Universal and yes you are correct. They say it's the part of the Backlot that shot desperate. Thanks for continuing great react videos!
True story, this song got me through getting a divorce. I swear the 1st verse was written about that ex. Since it's been awhile since I've suggested it, I'd love to hear you react to Johnny Lang "rack em up", "Lie to me" and or "still raining" Some of the best blues rock ever.
Hey Jamel, in the gameshow host in the gameshow scene is none other than Bob Eubanks, the host of the original version of "The Newlywed Game" and "Card Sharks" Anf if you've ever seen the "Back To The Future" movies, you might recognize the town they're walking through as the fictional town of "Hill Valley" where those movies are set
What's so awesome about the singer Dexter Holland, he has a PhD in molecular biology~ You should also check out their song "Gone Away", it's pretty deep
