@@markiangooley That is interesting. East of Melbourne we have huge areas of 200 to 300 foot high forests and timber from the hilly and flat areas sells for the same price. But they are hardwood while I think the forests near Seattle are conifers (softwood). Perhaps that makes a difference?

"Watkin Total Railway Wreaker" would be the first part of the "Met Rail Misery" trilogy . Yerkes was an out and out crook who stole investors money, but gave London an Underground it would never had had. Watkin also stole investors money, but created nothing but waste. The Metropolitan Railway's shacking up with Watkin's Grand Central was like going into partnership with "Airship Pirates Inc".

@@glynwelshkarelian3489 Watkins' ultimate goal was a main line from the middle(ish) of England to Paris and he very nearly succeeded. Whether his already started Channel Tunnel would have worked, we'll never know, but it was only scuppered by some pretty ridiculous objections from the British military. Had that been successful, there's a very good chance he would have acheived his dream and a train would have left Manchester one morning and, by way of the MSLR, the Met, the SER, the tunnel and the Chemin de Fer du Nord, would have run into Paris later that day. He had railway interests elsewhere too but even he couldn't link the Met to Canada. His biggest "waste" was probably the tower at Wembley, not his best bit of business.😁

@@Dave_Sisson Our last kelpie Jess had a lovely urban retirement, sitting out on my parents' deck in Eltham and greeting visitors with a full-body nose-to-tail wag. Before she moved to town, as a sheepdog, she'd be off home across miles of paddock at the first grumpy shout from my Dad.

No - the route through Westminster was rebuilt when the extension was dug.

The original southern terminus Platforms of the Jubilee Line at Charing Cross still exist and are frequently used by yellow underground engineers trains as well as an occasional reversing point for empty Jubilee line trains during service disruption.These Jubilee Platforms were aligned roughly east west, pointing towards the City, not towards Parliament. Naming these new Jubilee Line platforms, plus renaming the newly linked Strand and Trafalgar Square stations, as Charing Cross station was a no brainier. Renaming the District Line station at Embankment as Embankment followed logically: anyone who trudged up to Charing Cross main line station in the rain appreciated the dry link from the ‘new’ Charing Cross station. The “step-plate” junction which was created between Green Park and Charing Cross Stations allowed the southerly diversion of Jubilee Line trains towards Parliament at Westminster station whilst preserving the original Jubilee Line route to Charing Cross station. This re-routing of the Fleet Line extension, and it’s renaming as the Jubilee Line, opened up travel opportunities between the west end and docklands through the undervalued Southwark area. This triggered an explosion of development and redevelopment in these areas. The docklands developers financial contribution towards the costs of the Jubilee Line may well have helped finalise various aspects of the project and it’s success is a tribute to the planners who managed it’s gestation! The other major driver for this routing was to take the pressure off the Central Line between Stratford and Liverpool Street, just as the original Fleet/Jubilee Line took pressure off the Bakerloo Line between Baker Street and Oxford Circus. Recent, Pre-COVID-19, useage on both these routes far exceeded the figures which motivated the development of the Bakerloo/Fleet/Jubilee line but fortunately the working day had changed with time and the horrendous overcrowding previously experienced was of more limited duration each day. This valuable breathing space has allowed the next stage of the pressure relief project to be completed. The Elizabeth Line will reduce pressure on the eastern Jubilee Line and the Bakerloo Line but further enhance development pressures across a huge swathe of the west end and city. And thus the cycle continues, with every increasing momentum!

As he's playing by the Yerkies 1901 rules (as amended by Watkins), getting to Mornington Crescent will take him some time. We don't want the game to be over too soon.
