Not too many people would run a valuable car as hard as you did and i commend you for driving like these cars should be driven. Brings back a lot of memories. Most of my musclecars were of the 4 spd. variety. Ain't nothing like one hand on the wheel, one on the shifter and the car sideways. Thanks for this AWESOME video.
I drove my 69; Road Runner and other cars like this like this all the time...but that was in the 70s and 80s. Now I drive my 17' Super Sport Camaro 6 speed like this.😁
Probably one of the best ride-along vids on youtube. Really got a feel for the speed. Lol almost felt like you were gonna eat it around one of those curves! My dad's GTO is a '67. Just the best. Thanks!
Holy crap, this makes my heart race!!!! WOOOOOO WHOOOO!!!!!! Kids today have no idea what they missed!!! I will never forget those days, and I will always love them!!!! Thanks for the ride, it was awesome!!
I appreciate this to the max. My late brother and I loved the ground on which our GTO's rolled and at times, went to war. Go, Go GTO!!! Thanks again :-)
Old man, you're my hero! Driving it the way they were meant to be driven. Not rotting in some garage just taking up space. DeLorean and Wangers would be proud!
Notice how he sits pretty far back in his seat? Its because he needs all the space he can get to fit his massive balls to drive a car like this around those bends at those speeds 😂 what a champ 🙌🏻
Best video on RU-vid. I come back from time to time to watch again it never gets old the way you drive that car sir it's amazing. This man is a very skilled driver no traction control no stability or abs no bullshit just real driving. Well done sir 👍🏽
Wow, your video brought back great memories! I used to street race my 64 Tri-Power GTO and won 39 of 41 races. That was back in my high school days of the late 60s. What a FUN car she was! When I raced, we always started from a roll, about 25-30 mph. Then, we hit it, and off to the races! Like many others commenting here, I wish more owners would put the petal to the metal. The ole' goat was meant to run, not walk. Thank you for doing it right. GTOs are meant to run!
This guy is the real deal :real man" not like these idiots showing cars of the past and don't show you what they are about Love this guy and this video is by far the best on utube with the GTO!
THAT is exactly how I drove MY '64 GTO! You, Sir, know what it is. I'm almost 58, now. I sold my car to a kid who wrecked it two weeks later. A deed I regret to this day! Your video shows the FUN of owning the ORIGINAL Musclecar. Can't be duplicated. ONE of a kind. THE FIRST. If I get another one before I die, my life would be complete! Nice work you did here. Thanks!
Made me smile! About 20 years ago I had a 1965 Chevelle with a dyno proven 681 hp 496 BBC. It had a full cage, ran 10's on pump gas, was licensed and insured. I would drive it into work at least once or twice a week, and I regularly just drove it everywhere. One day I was at a big parts house and the clerk needed to see my car to make sure I was getting the right part. When he saw the car, he just said: " oh my God - you are that guy!" I wasn't sure what he meant by that, so I asked: what do you mean? He said that he had heard rumors about some old guy seen dressed in a suit and tie, driving with slicks, a cage, a 5" cowl hood, in a thumping big block Chevelle, looking like he was just driving a Cadillac on his way to work - and then blasting off as soon as there was an opening in traffic! This is a nice GTO, driven enjoyably I would say.
I don't know what it is....but just from the sound I could tell it was a pontiac 389/400/421/455 with a cam. They just have a different sound than a Chevy. That sound takes me back to so many sunday drives... My father had a nice 65, I loved that car. Grew up learning how to wrench on it. 3x2 4 speed but with a built 400 since the original engine was toast when he and my mother bought it...But once my mother died dad couldn't stand to be around it due to the memories. He cheap sold it to a guy who then tried to flip it. My brother and I tried to buy it from my father but he didn't want to see it anymore. A few years down the road and I understand why but it still hurts. My brother and I tried to buy it from the guy he sold it to but he wanted 50k after a 5k paintjob and putting on some cragars. If I had enough money I would have paid that POS flipper just on sentimental value alone. If I don't get it back I'll buy a 64 tempest, lemans, gto and build it with my son who is 18 months but loves watching me wrench. If we get to work on a Pontiac together than he will get it!
Thank you. I own a 66GTO that I bought in Feb. of 1966. Mine is a 2 door coupe with a 389ci 4barrel 335 hp with a 4 speed wide ratio, Marina Turquoise in color with a black interior. Your video brought tears to my eyes and joy in my heart, again thank you.
Awwwwww mannnnnn, That was INTENSE!! My adrenaline was even flowin' and my heart was a pumpin'!! LOVE IT!! Thanks for putting this video together...I had 1975 Pontiac TA, it was a FUN car, BUT nothin' like this!! My friend did have a 1966 Goat that he had really muscled out and when he would take me out in it and romp on it, BELIEVE or not he would lift the front end OFF the road, you talk about setting you back in your seat!!!! Miss those days and those Awesome muscle cars!! Thanks again!!
Thank you for posting this great video. Mt dad absolutely loved the video. He had a 1964 GTO configured very much like yours. Nocturne Blue, pillar post. NO power options. 4 speed, 4 bbl carb. The video brought tears to his eyes and reminded him of the great times he had in that car.
Grew up in the 80s in Ohio and fell in love with ‘66s. My dad found a ‘64 TriPower with the original red line tires, baby blue paint - amazing car that was trailered in from Cali. My father thought the motor might be too much for his 16 year old son - he was so right. Two months later the buyer (a good friend of the family ) bought the car. It was then when he allowed his girlfriend son drive the ‘64 to prom. The car ended up around telephone pole that same night, thank God the prom-goers were not seriously hurt. To this day, I still think about my dad’s wisdom and that GTO. So if you think my teenage years were lost, that’s not the case. A few months later (with my own Cash ) and yes, my dad found the seller, I bought a 1970 LeMans with Judge striping. Man was that ride sweet… Thanks for the memories Gran Turismo Omologato,
My brother had 64 Gto with Tri-Power 389, i had a 66 Gto with a 400 and my Nephew had a 66 Gto but can't remember the motor in it. When i seen this video it was like the best thing i have seen in years, thanks "old man" your awesome!
@@jayhiggins1141 I'm sorry i had the 1968 with the 400 but not original motor (I don't think anyways) but built to the gills. My nephew had the 1966 GTO but i am not sure on that motor, i assume your probably right on that. I went off to the marines and got to be friends with a guy who was from Des Moines not far from my hometown. I sold it to him on payments and he got out of the service on a medical, he never sent me the money so i looked him up when i came back on leave. He said it caught on fire and burnt up😡, of course i never got a dime out of him. I did go check to see 👀 if he was lying to me but it was burnt up, I called the flat bed company loaded the car got my title and left!!
This is what it's all about! As with all GTO owners, these cars were built to be driven and raced at the track! Great video and thanks for sharing the memories! I have a 64' Le Mans 2 dr Post Coupe, Teal in color, currently building a 428 for it! Still has the original 326, but it's getting tired. Thanks again for the great vid!
Had a 70 GTO with a 400. I replaced the quadrajet with a bolt on 835 cfm, spreadbore, double pumper Holley. I opened the exhaust as well. I had a problem similar to the Old Man's, I only new OFF and Wide Open. The biggest problem with most of the GTOs was slowing them down. I wore out a new set of Micky Thompson 50s in a week. I busted out laughing when that Old Man first got on it. I had my wife watch it with me. We laughed so hard we cried, and we had a death grip on our chairs the entire ride. I had to get rid of the GTO because of speeding tickets. I bought a 4 cylinder Subaru and have never drove a really powerful car since. That was over 40 years ago. Thanks! Drive it like you stole it!
I had a 68 GTO 400 4 spd when I was 16 in 1974 and I drove it like that. I'm 65 now and I would be that old guy if I had it now. Nothing like that feeling.
Just plain WOW! Mine was a 67 hardtop HO purchased second hand in 1969 - my first car bought with my own money as a 17 yr old high school junior. An experience and memory that has lasted me some 53 years! 3 options if I remember correctly - HO package/console/8-track. Thank you “old man” from another!
I brought anew GTO in 1967.The same color combination ,red interior,white exterior,Pilar coupe,400-360 ,4speed,no power steering,390 gears,burn rubber in 3 gears.Pure monster .
100% pure Pontiac Power!! Thank you for the 8 minute ear-to-ear smile I just enjoyed!! "Lets get on it"..........there is NOTHING that compares to a dialed-in Tri-Power! Wow!!!!!
Two words LOVE IT! I absolutely LOVE IT sold my 64 GTO a year ago missed it everyday since. If you ever decide to sell this one I would love to have first crack at owning it. LOVE IT nice job on the video and narration. Thanks for reminding me how fun they are.
I have goosebumps sir! I have a '64 hardtop bronze over saddle that is all original with 98 grand on the clock. The reason I bought it was that my dad had a marimba red hardtop that he bought in '66 and his folks sold it on him when he got drafted in '68. He put a lot of work into it and it ran hard on Woodward in Detroit. Mine is bone stock and I don't want to molest it but I would love a rig like yours.
Nice car here! I have a white 64 Tempest with a 389. My dad also has a 64 GTO with a tri power on a 389 and a 65 GTO project car. Absolutely in love with GTOs, Tempests, and Lemans. Thanks for posting this video.
My best friend was 18 I was fourteen, he bought a 1964 white GTO red interior from woman who lost her son in Vietnam Nam. It had been in her garage since his death. Low miles. This was the most bad ass car I have ever seen . Never got beat on strip. By anything. It was badass.. thanks old man
Thank you for driving it like it should be driven. I’ve never seen that on any of these GTO videos. Watching this is fun fun fun. I sent it off to a buddy mine is got a 67 GTO. Recommending that he should watch it😮😅😊🎉
My first car , a 64 GTO convertible bought in 66 after discharge . When you found a straight stretch of road so you could let her rip the ragtop acted like a balloon and started lifting you off the road.
Great video. I am in the process of looking for a 1964 GTO project. I have loved these cars since I was 12 back in the early 80's. This video should accompany the sale of every GTO. Please make more.
I LOVE IT when I see a guy that can DRIVE one of these BEASTS as it should be and at the same time giving it some respect !! We used to say "GO OR BLOW" or "DRIVE IT LIKE YOU STOLE IT" .... THAT is how these cars were made to be driven !! Thank you for a GREAT video !! I miss my '68 GOAT convertible ! She was a beauty, green with a white top ! Don't EVER part with it ... trust me ...
