you can buy a unique jewelry on my website:

In this short video, I will try to cast a silver piece for the first time using the old method. This is a burnout casting.
Yes, I will use modern equipment, but this does not change the very meaning of this method. So I hope you enjoy this video. Happy viewing!

I just got my pinecone necklace today and I love it. It’s so unique and the fact that there is a video of its creation to go with it, makes it even more special.

You poured the silver into the mold, which was mounted in the kiln, then you sealed the kiln. Was that to burn out the fiber or is this generally done?

Nice work! Have you tried bones? Like small bird skulls? I'm wondering does bone burn away? Bird bones are thin and often hollow. I cleaned one bird skull and wanna try it at school.. Maybe brass skull :)
@reillymcclellan2329
@reillymcclellan2329 2 года назад
I was trying to think of ways to do a 2-part mold to preserve the skull, but I'm thinking you would have to simplify the form since there is so much negative space..kinda defeats the purpose. I'm really curious, did you end up trying this? I have a tabletop kiln and some spare bones I just might try it too. I mean, that's how things are cremated, right?
@reillymcclellan2329
@reillymcclellan2329 2 года назад
according to google, bones will not burn. also, they put cremated subjects in blenders to resemble ashes.

Great video. Thank you for sharing! I assume that the molten silver burns away the tiny pinecones, correct? Or does the silver just coat them with the pinecone staying inside, which I can't imagine actually happening?
@Nexus_1470
@Nexus_1470 3 года назад
dolfinmagikpro they probably burn away together with the wax when he put them in the furnace
@avyitis3425
@avyitis3425 3 года назад
Plaster and cones/wax stay in the furnace until they've burnt out and evaporated entirely. The empty space gets filled by whichever liquid metal is then used for casting.
@TheShattenjager

Yeah it’s all incinerated prior to the silver being poured in.

I think when he puts it in the oven before pouring the silver, the wood burns away just like the wax would.

I think you skipped the step where you suspend the pinecone array in the plaster hah. Unless I’m thick and didn’t see it, but I think you didn’t show it. Regardless - you’ve got another subscriber. This stuff is my jam!

How did you remove the charcoal left while burning the plaster ?
@SheepSlayer
@SheepSlayer 3 года назад
Some Furnances get hot enough that it just kind of vaporizes away. You could also blow some air into it to remove the ash.
@mgord9518
@mgord9518 2 года назад
They probably just left it in the furnace for a long time with plenty of oxygen to allow it to burn out.
@Jordan-rb28

I had no idea the ash wouldn't screw up the mold?? What temperature do you have to reach, or how else do you cast organic things like this?

What is the second container for which you put the mould in? To hold the mould and temperature at the same time or does it fulfill another purpose?
@SheepSlayer
@SheepSlayer 3 года назад
If you are referring to the container after the furnace it's a vacuum chamber. It pulls air through the holes in the flask/plaster and allows the metal to fill in the detailed places.

@@SheepSlayer Aaaah I see. So that's then the "replacement" for the original centrifugal force casting I presume. Thanks for your reply!
@SheepSlayer

@@avyitis3425 Yes indeed! For larger tree-based molds vacuum is the way to go. Centrifugals works beautifully for smaller or single items though.

@avyitis3425
@avyitis3425 3 года назад
@@greasephotography1166 you can buy premade plaster mixtures for just this purpose. Make sure you research what you need, as burnout temperatures can be different and prices can vary greatly too. Don't get overpriced crap.
