Europe in Thailand: take an architectonic journey through the heritage buildings of Bangkok
At the start of the 19 th Century, Bangkok expanded from the banks of the Chao Phraya. Since then and still today, Europeans have helped to build the city.Through a series of four videos, the European Union and The Cloud Magazine uncover unique aspects of historic buildings of Bangkok. This walk through history reminds us of the long friendship and collaboration of Thailand and European countries. It also shows that heritage must be preserved for Bangkok to keep growing as a sustainable city.
Charoen Krung District, which gave birth to modern Bangkok. This quaint neighborhood is rich in history and culture. With H.E. Mr. Pirkka Tapiola, Ambassador of the European Union to Thailand, we toured the European heritage architectures. Come learn about the architecture of the oldest embassies in Thailand: the Embassy of Portugal and the Embassy of France, which are both located along the Chao Phraya River.
H.E. Mr. João-Bernardo Weinstein opens the gate of Soi Charoen Krung 30, allowing us to see the old house and the warehouse that has been converted into the office of the Embassy of Portugal. His neighbour, H.E. Mr. Thierry Mathou, invited us to see ‘The Residence of France’ on Soi Charoen Krung 36.
