THE OLDEST English Football League Stadium - Field Mill, Mansfield Town Football Club 

I was at that game at Wembley in 1987 supporting Bristol City. Remember the penalty shoot out and how nice and friendly the Mansfield fans were.

My Grandad is a lifelong Mansfield supporter and used to bring me along to almost every home game when I was younger. The atmosphere is always a good one and I'm sure we'll find success under Cloughie. Can't wait to take my young boys when they're a bit older.

I used to be a matchday steward at Crawley. Without a doubt, the Mansfield Town fans were the nicest bunch of supporters I ever had to look after.

Mansfield is a decent place, the people I know there are good folks and it’s great to see the stadium. They’ve got a good manager with Nigel, he’ll improve them AND look after the finances at the same time. Decent bloke!

I've recently discoverd your, channel because of your Eredivisie match vlogs. Since i watched some more video's. I can tell you like some smaller clubs. I would recommend you to go to Go Ahead Eagles (Deventer) currently in the Eredivisie. It's unique in the sense that the stadium (Adelaarshorst) is in the middle of an working class neighbourhood, feels like an Scottish stadium. Fans are really close to the pitch and we are sometimes refered to as small Feyenoord, because of the workingclass fans and passion. Last year we won against Ajax at home and lost by a small margin to PSV in the semi-final of the Dutch cup. Oh it's also only an 1 hour traindrive from Amsterdam Central station. Keep up the great content, from another lad with probably the best name in the world ;)

I watched a documentary buy Tony Robinson of Channel 4 time team fame on the subject of Robin Hood & during the documentary it was suggested that the story of Robin Hood was in fact an amalgamation of many different people & not one single person as there is no historical record of any one person that perfectly marches the name of Robin Hood or Sir Guy of Gisbourne as he was apparently really named the closest match found in the documentary was a man from Wakefield in Yorkshire how lived where the bus Station is now situated in Wakefield it was suggested he travelled in the summer mouths to Sherwood Forest & spent the winter in Wakefield with his family as it would be difficult enough in the present day to camp out in a forest the way it is suggested Robin Hood did in winter now a days never mind back in medieval times it is highly unlikely he or his merry y men would of survived the winter in Sherwood Forest in medieval times. So if this man from Wakefield how matches Robin Hood the closest really was some kind of outlaw hiding & ambushing people in Sherwood Forest it is highly likely it only happened in the summer mouths & not in winter. Personally I think Robin Hood was an amalgamation of different outlaws that over time became one person when the story's where passed on & embellished over the century's. Keep Safe Sam.

These debates are open to semantics, for example what is the definition of a ground. In its earliest guise Field Mill wasn’t a ground or stadium, it was just a recreational field where teams used to play football, like the local park. However Bramall Lane was a proper sports enclosure with fences mainly used to host cricket with the odd big football game played there.

I remember in the 1970s going to an anglo Scottish cup tie Mansfield vs partick thistle. I think thistle won 1-0 at firhill bout Mansfield won the leg 3-2. I wish they would bring back the tournament nothing like travelling 100s of miles on a old wet night to watch your team lose. Now I’m experiencing that feeling as an Oldham fan.

Not really much of a clear history lesson the media guy said oldest in country which I thought was hallam fc (used stadium) no history about stadium before Mansfield went there, media guy needs sacking he's s**t and guy making video didn't ask the questions

My gosh. Someone needs to put some respect on Deepdale and PNE. Deepdale is widely recognised as the "oldest continuously used professional football ground in England" granted its contested but they never ever get a mention. Never mind your Stoke's, Maidenhead's and Mansfield, at least North End have a illustrious, rich history with real silverware and honours to boot...

An exciting bit of football history; there Sam. I have never been to Mansfield nor worked; at a game where Mansfield played. I have heard that they have a tremendous fan base that is very respectful towards opposition supporters. I heard the majority stayed on and clapped my team Forest Green Rovers when they clinched the League 2 title their last season.

Good to see my local club being shown. Simon Coleman, became the record transfer fee for Mansfield town when he moved from Mansfield to Sheffield Wednesday. Now he is a PE teacher at my school 😂

Gainsborough Trinity, oldest single club ground in the world, the club once managed 6th in the old 2nd division, most premier sides have played here and Man U played there first ever game here. Had a player in the England team.

Can you come to Shrewsbury Town. We have the new stadium which we have been in since 2007 and the old stadium which was by the river which was called the Gay Meadow. My mum actually now moves in one of the apartments that is sat on the old ground which is cool. There is a video on BBC Archive about the man in the coracle Fred Davies when he had to fetch the balls from the river if they went in during the games. Great videos too. Keep them up. Cheers. Mark.

Hiya Sam and everybody just a few or so interesting and fascinating facts about the mentioned subject such as I remember seeing that ground (field mill) lovely name for a ground on television many years ago when it looked rather different like it had some type of track around the outside of the pitch and at the time in the latter 1970s they had one or two seasons in the division two where they played a memorable match v spurs also talking of grounds Saltergate the former ground of local rivals chesterfield was one of the oldest grounds along with Stamford bridge and st James pk Newcastle also about the town of Mansfield it’s great that it now has a railway station with services to Nottingham (the Robin Hood line) as before it was the biggest town in England to not have a railway station after what happened during the beeching era as there was a massive reduction in railway services and now one final and endearing fact that the signature colours of Mansfield town fc blue and yellow are of course the same colours of the flag of Ukraine so there you have it hey
