i love how deep you go into the materia and how long you seem to keep doubt about certain things you have very much in common with alchemists of the original line you know "seeing the bigger picture, but not forgetting about the pixels" as i say =D nice video, awesome depth of research and nice work cheers Cheerok

@Cheerok thank you! yes, i do beilive that the harder i am on the history of ninjutsu, the better the story is. I think this is because ninjutsu is amazing, so not matter how hard i hit it and no matter how deep i go. Something amazing comes up

Me too, the problem here is the term shinobi, the older versions are not the kanji we are looking for and i have not personally seen a copy. So i am sure it will go back, but at the moment, that is 100% true and real, so late 1300's, shinobi are there!

i would so no, but it may have held different connotations. But by the structure of the text it clearly means sneaking in.

many people in my country think that the ninja is fictional and it doesnt exist, this is because they have no understanding about ninja, they only watched movies instead of researching for historical facts.

@TSOAS2008 if you want another awesome thing to start discovering research about the Assassins or Clan Hashshashin the style i originally learned derived from their methods and the best thing is is the code of secrecy "only those who seek will find" if you search yourself you will find out lot amazing things if you ask people who know stuff you might get pointed into the right direction if they trust you but nothing more if you want a hard case like the ninjas ^^

@crookedninja2 this video is for the Kanji Shinobi No Mono, that is different Kanji if its the one i am thinking of, also, Buffon Said he looked it up, it did not say shinobi, eithir way is is not the kanji here in question. It simply has the sound shinobi (if it is there at all)

@Cheerok ya we can start on that... as soon as you provide ANY form of historical documentation for the claims you have made... quite large claims actually...

It's really not clear what this video is talking about -- is the argument that the Taiheiki uses the verb "shinob-u" in the modern meaning of "behave in a stealthy manner"? If so, who was arguing that this sense of the word didn't exist until the Edo period? The Taiheiki has been widely read and studied for a long time, as shown by the large number of surviving manuscript copies, so it seems very unlikely that scholars were taking, for example, the passage "いざや殿原、今夜の雨風の紛れに、城中へ忍入て、一夜討して天下の人に目を覚させん。" as having the older sense of "endure". If not that, and the argument is that the Taiheiki includes the noun "shinobi" (or "shinobi no mono" or "ninja" or some such), could you cite a specific passage? The Taiheiki is enormous, and it's very difficult to verify this video's claims by going through every single instance of the kanji 忍 appearing in the text to try to find the passage in question. I went through the first three books just now (using ja.wikisource.org/wiki/%E5%A4%AA%E5%B9%B3%E8%A8%98), and it seemed like every single instance was a verb.

I have had this checked by the Japanese and they are all in agreement its not a verb.

@@AntonyCummins By "this", do you mean the "城中へ忍入て" in the sentence I quoted above? It's a truism that "shinob-u" is a verb and that the noun "shinob-i" is derived from said verb, but it's very unclear what you are referring to here.

i don't remember where i read it... but i thought that the kojiki mentioned shinobi
@AntonyCummins
@AntonyCummins 13 лет назад
@Arteanor but it is not the same Kanji, the shinobi Kanji, i thnk you are talking about the very early one, i think Buffon has proved this wrong. Not sure
