I shoot only for hobby. Switched from a Nikon DSLR (too heavy and I'm a tiny female) to the E-M1 Mark i at the time it came out. Moved up to the E-M1 Mark iii in 2021 and I'm very happy with it and see no need to upgrade as a hobbyist. My 2 lenses are the Oly 12-100 and Oly 100-400. Does everything I need.

I've been shooting olympus for almost 50 dears I really like the small 45 mm F 1.2 I have big hands so this lens fits just right it lets more light in which results in cleaner images high suter speed = Less blurry images

To answer the question. Yes, and I caught my second OM-D E-M1 Mark III on the Black Friday sale for $999.99. Now, with two in the bag, I am dangerous...very dangerous. :) Especially with the Pro lenses including the 7-14mil you raved about.

I used to own the EM1iii. I now own an OM1. Lots of new bells and whistles, which are nice, but I could easily make due with the mark III if I still had it

Bought mine 18 months ago and love it, does everything I could wish for. Compact and very solidly built with all controls exactly where they are needed - highly recommended!

Beautiful camera, superb images. My only advice would be to never use a neck strap with metal clasps as they will scratch the body. The Peak Design wrist or neck strap or more budget model like the OpTech that offer plastic quick release mechanisms are much safer and less cumbersome. Anyway, congrats on the EM-1 III.

great photos! great review! i love my em1 m3. the image quality continues to blow my mind. the latest updates to lightroom’s amazing ai noise reduction puts high iso shots on par with the very best full frames out there. love using mine to travel with a tandem of pany 14mm and 20mm. super small and perfect.

Well one thing I can definitely take from this video. Olympus om whatever you want to call it, has good customer service. I would imagine plenty of companies would send it back and refund.

I like your series of videos. I have the EM1iii (upgraded from the EM1) I totally agree with your pros. As for the cons? I personally like having the strap lug on the top right side. When gripping the camera the lug does not come in contact with my palm, I also do not have a strap attached to the right side. For shoulder carry one end is attached to the left lug and the other to a screw in lug on the tripod mount, this leaves the right side totally free. Also when carrying the camera cross body the bottom of the camera is in contact with my body, not the back. This set up may or may not work for you but I really like it.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion! I might give that screw in lug a try, that sounds like a great idea for when I don’t have the battery grip with its integrated mount attached.

This is very helpful. I own the em5 mark 3 and was thinking that the em1 mark 3 would be a good upgrade. I can hopefully find one on the used market

I'm seriously thinking about buying this camera...it would go great with Sigma 60 mm f 2.8 or Sigma 56 mm 1.4 for portraits. I found it at a super good price around 800 euros. Thank you very much for the review!

I just missed getting this one new. I got an EM5 Mk iii instead on my budget, instead of a used EM1 Mk ii. I would have bought the EM1 iii new if given the budget. A bit of a dream camera in my view.

Awesome video! I shoot with dual EM1Xs in hot, dusty and dry environments, and don't like changing lenses. I also have the EM1.2 for my youtube video channel. I am now going to sell my EM1.2 and buy a used EM1.3 for 2 reasons. The video work for youtube, and the starry night focus aide!. Astro is very important for me and focusing is very difficult on the X. It will be basically be my mini "X" as it does everything the X does with the exception of the AI focusing aides. The X's are for my BIF and other critter shoots, and the EM1.3 will be the perfect complement to the X's. Cheers!

Thanks! I’m using the Olympus 100-400mm for longer shots (I don’t own the 40-150, very interested in that lens though, I often see great results from others with it)

Have you considered using the bottom plate from Peak design to attach your strap to the bottom and the side of the camera? Also I am picking one up from Camera Tweedehands saturday morning so your review came just when I needed it.

Great video. I paid the premium back in the day to get an early EM5 (the OG) shipped over from Hong Kong because I was so excited to have mirrorless camera with a viewfinder. The Sony nex5 was amazing but my eyes were already going! Selling that Oly was a big mistake that launched me into years of GAS. I took 9 years to bring me to my senses and buy another one. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to commit to the OM cameras further. The only thing that would push me to a different model from your mkiii would be the live nd. That seems like a fascinating possibility. The OM5 is calling...

Ja, I know that Live ND is a new generation thing. I need a dual purpose camera now and the OM5 looks good. My only complaint would be its style of articulated screen. I prefer simple tilt (or the trick way that the xt5 does it). Though I prefer the smaller bodies, the OM1 would be great and if i sold my x100v and T, I could afford one. Hmm.

Hello gentleman. Can you please explain in brief if this one breaks one mp4/video file into multiple small files, automatically??? If so, how does that happen and if there's any way to avoid that inconvenience. *How good is it for videos, content creation?*

Hi Bart-Jan, dank voor de zeer informatieve video... ik overweeg de EMI mark III voor reportage shoots met name. Ik heb de EM10 mark II en EM5 mark II. Beide fantastisch maar battery life is niet zo goed... wat is jouw ervaring op dit punt met de EM5 mark III? groetjes govert

Hoi Govert, graag gedaan! Bedoel je in je laatste zin mijn ervaring met de E-M1 mark iii? of de E-M1 mark iii in vergelijk met de E-M5 mark iii? De accuduur van de EM1 mark iii is abosluut beter, ik heb daar nooit problemen mee gehad (alhoewel ik ook vaak de batterygrip met een extra accu bij de EM1 mark iii gebruik, maar heel eerlijk; die is vooral voor de grip en de extra accu is nooit nodig in de praktijk). Hoe de E-M5 mark iii zich verhoudt tot de E-M5 mark ii en 10 mark ii qua accuduur weet ik niet, die laatste 2 camera’s heb ik niet. Wat de E-M5 mark iii betreft, voor stills is de accuduur prima, ik gebruik die echter ook veel voor video en daar vind ik em er wel vrij hard doorheen gaan. Ik heb er dan altijd een paar extra bij me.

Hi Bart-Jan, Hartelijk dank voor je uitgebreide antwoord! Ja ik bedoelde idd het vergelijk tussen de EM1 III en EM5 III. Goed om te horen wat jouw ervaring is met beide camera's. Bij de EM5 II heb ik ook een batterij grip met extra accu mogelijkheid. Deze camera gekocht speciaal voor de focus stacking feature in camera welke ik gebruik bij een product shoot opdracht. Werkt geweldig! Nu een afspraak voor een meerdaagse reportage. Daarvoor overweeg ik extra 2e hands een OM1 te kopen... eerst nog een proefdag lopen met de battery grip op de EM5 II dan maar... dankjewel voor alle nuttige info!!

They’re brass snap hooks, I got mine from a dutch webshop (www.paracord.nl/musketon-haak-wervel-45-mm-messing) but pretty standard and available anywhere I’d imagine.

Which lenses are you using with it? Especially for those first photos you shown in this video?

The very first photo (the sunset shot) was taken with the 25mm f/1.2, which is one of my most used lenses. The 2nd one (the bird on the fence) was taken with the 100-400mm, which I use a lot with it as well. On the (very) wide end I often use the 7-14mm f/2.8 pro. I’d say those are my three most used lenses with the E-M1 mark iii.

Did you ever have the feeling that your em5 mkii is slow to power up and shoot quickly enough? I had one and sold it after a short time, but it does seem like a great value considering how cheap they are now.

I’ve never owned the E-M5 mark ii, I did/do have an E-M5 and an E-M5 mark iii. The mark iii is very quick and responsive, not sure how it compares to the mark ii and how much of a difference there is between them.

Is mark1 mark III so much better than m1 markII for birdphotos that it is worth uppgrading?

From what I read (I don’t own the mark ii myself) the processing speed is better on the mark iii than on the mark ii, it has an extra stop in I.S., but neither has the bird detection AF for example, which I guess would be an actual advantage for bird photography. The E-M1X does have the bird detection AF, as does the OM-1. If the bigger E-M1X body isn’t an issue, I’d say that would give more advantage over the mark ii than the mark iii, while being more or less in the same price range (both go for about the same on the 2nd market, at least here in the Netherlands).

I have an E-m1 II. It would be my best camera ever, if the AF won't be much less accurate than the AF of my E-m10II. Is the E-m1 III's AF better?

On paper yes, from what I read the autofocus of the mark iii is quite a bit improved in comparision to the mark ii. But I don’t own the mark ii myself, only the original E-M1 and the mark iii in that line, so how much you really notice in practice I couldn’t say.

Are you inpressed with the AF on the EM10 Mark ii? It's quite an old camera now. I have two and I adore them. Black and chrome. Personally I liked the smoother black finish of the EM10ii the best of all the finishes on the OMD cameras. Plus the metal build and the jewel like compactness.

@@davebellamy4867 I think my E-M10II is not fully metal. The backplate is like some good plastic. Overall I like that camera, the style, the compactness. The AF is quite similar to the AF of my E-PL6. It makes much more keeper pictures than my E-M1II. But, as Robin Wong said, his E-M1II is perfect at autofocusing, so maybe only my copy is buggy. What I don't like about the E-M10II is the TruePic VII engine and the shutter sound. The TP VIII in the E-M1 II better in my opinion, and I liked the TP VI better too.

It’s great, the best I have on any of my cameras (it’s also the newest camera I own, I should add). I’ve read people saying the OM-1’s E-VF is much better, but I couldn’t say, haven’t tried it yet. But I have no issues with the E-M1 mark iii’s evf, works really well, no lag as I experience in some older cameras.

@@bartjanverhoef can't be the great it's only 1.5 million dots compared to most other camera are 2.6 or 5.6 . The Panasonic G9 has a much bigger and better viewfinder then the em1mkiii

It’s 2.36m dots if I’m not mistaken. But I think there’s much more to it than just resolution. For example: I’ve got a GX85 with a 2.75m dots evf, that doesn’t come anywhere near the E-M1 mark iii’s evf when it comes to brightness, speed, correct rendering of contrasts etc, regardless of resolution. I really have no complaints.

I just finished shooting the em1 vs the Canon r6ii. At the end of three days shooting at a festival.. They were the same except I got way more great shots with the em1, with much better clarity than the Canon. I was totally baffled. In a blind test even my Canon only friends chose the Nikon images first every time, next the em1, then all thought the Canon was terrible clarity by comparison.

That's on you. I have both an EM1 Mark ii and a Canon R6. The Canon is a more advanced camera and the R6 Mark ii even better than mine. Either you didn't know how to use the camera or you had a defective body or lens.

Your guess is as good as mine. I really don’t know. I don’t sense a very strong of excitement around the brand for a while now. And I wonder what the strategy will be going forward. Is there going to be anything in the PEN line? Tbh, I’m not super hopeful. But we’ll see.

One think that everyone do not talk about is shoot raw and inbody photoshop is great ps.om1 is more powerful today
