Greetings, everyone! Welcome to The Commander Tavern! I am Demented Kirby and this is the 23rd episode of the 5th season of one of the series on this channel, The Brewery. This series is all about brewing and deck techs - hopefully showcasing the spiciest of brews!
This episode of The Brewery is my take on Cosima, God of the Voyage but in order to really use her as The Omenkeel. This is an amazing vehicle lord right in the command zone and being your commander means that it still deals commander damage even it's not on the Cosima side. The deck aims to exile away as many cards as possible with vehicles in order to play them and never miss a land drop. As well as being aggro/mill of course. So not really a vehicle deck. It's mill with vehicles kinda in it

Not every nonland card has to be a vehicle in order for it to be a vehicle deck. Apart from The Omenkeel, which is the commander, there are 22 vehicles in the deck. All because of their interaction with it. So almost 1/4th of the deck is vehicles. Almost 1/4th is not a small portion of the deck.

Step back Depala because you're no longer the only vehicle tribal commander in town! Any plans for a Varragoth deck video?

I actually like The Omenkeel way more than Depala because she depends too heavily on dwarves. Granted, it's still a great commander for dwarves since you have access to red and white plus Throne of Eldraine and Kaldheim gave us a ton of dwarves in those colors. But The Omenkeel made it much easier since I can put in whatever creatures I want to crew the vehicles and it's actually easier to ramp with The Omenkeel than it is with Depala. So that's a bonus right there. As for Varragoth, there's just so many ways to build it since it's a tutor on a body in the command zone like SIdisi, Undead Vizier. You can literally make a secret commander deck with it but I feel like Sidisi, Undead Vizier is better as a monoblack secret commander deck than Varragoth because it's too fragile. With Sidisi you just cast her and that's it - card right to your hand. For just 5 mana. With Varragoth, while cheaper to cast, you have to attack with him and then have mana to activate him and the card goes to the top. So you have to then draw it. So it's more hoops to jump through.

A fun addition to this deck: Meloku the Clouded Mirror. You can pick up some lands to make pilots for your vehicles or chump blockers.

I tested Meloku and a of other similar creatures since I can just bounce my own lands while still having opponents' lands to play with. But it ended up requiring too many hoops to jump through, especially since I'm already playing lands from opponents. There came a point where I had more lands than what to do with. So I kept at that route and adding things like Walking Atlas with Retreat to Coralhelm in order to drop all the lands from the hand. But the deck became clunky. So I streamlined it again and didn't miss that landbounce package. Don't get me wrong; it was quite the engine once assembled, but that was the thing; it required too much setting up.
