Good video thank you! I dont touch my eq anymore and my arrangements have improved. I say give each instrument a job to take care of. Stop relying on technology.

Hey Adam you're welcome! Glad to hear that it is making a difference. Indeed fix your song/arrangement first and then see what EQ can do.

Great vid! Another thing that helps is to look at old live performances (before the computer age) and figure out what each instrumentalist is doing You'll see how musicians played their instruments and solved the problem of not being heard in the mix of the whole band. For example, pianists would sometimes play in a higher register as that cuts through a guitar-heavy song much better than playing in a lower register

Thank you Matthew! And yes that's a very good hands-on tip. There you can see how this technique works without these bells and wistles of EQ and such. Same for film composers who work only with samples. Don't EQ too much, but look for what register is still 'open'.

Discovered your videos from modal interchange, still loving the clarity and the format of your videos For frequencies separation: mixing with the master set in mono right from the start is à good way to listen where the frequencies clash. Also low mid (200-700) are very enjoyable to hear but stack up in the final mix, cutting them in master will result in cleaner but thin mix. So it is best to prioritize frequencies, aka specific instrument, in this specific range, as you recommend. I also like your method because you will know in advance where to cut
