I doubt this guy is asking every artist for permission to use the work, while also monetising their videos. I bet somewhere in these videos one of my paintings would pop up. This is really not OK, to say the least. So yeah. More than kudos is needed. I hope I'm wrong!

@@LakierosJordy If the artists are concerned about money, they can monetize their own art themselves. If you upload fanart on the internet and don't try to protect it in any way, such as watermarking it or only giving a preview, I'm sorry but most people are going to assume that the art has been uploaded for the good of the community. So you as an artist need to be proactive here and protect your art from being saved and used by others. Sorry if I sound unfeeling, but we can't be too careless on the internet, or just trust that others are going to act according to our wishes. As for these videos, I don't know if he contacts the artists, but he gives credit to the artists in the video description. Because of his videos, I have been able to google the art featured in the videos, and found new artists. But hey, if he uses your art and you don't like it, just contact him and he can remove your art and reupload his video without it. Or block your art with a pop up window. By the way, I'm a bit confused by you saying that fanartists need more than kudos. Do you mean you think fanart in general should only be available if people pay to see it? If that's the case, do you think the fanartists should send at least part of the money they earned to the Tolkien Estate? After all, they too are making money off Tolkien's IP. I mean, the whole fan community thing we have going is legally on risky ground. Some IP owners are less tolerant of fan productions than others. Some have tried to nuke things like fanfilms and fanfiction. It was J.K. Rowlings who really begun this "encourage fan productions" thing. George Lucas has been supportive, too.

@@AnnaMarianne I can't really say much more clearly other than that you're completely wrong. Copyrighted material is protected. Me posting my work online automatically makes it protected. Its not my job to watermark or what ever you said , its simply stealing if anyone takes it and uses it for their own content, in particular monetised. This channel claims it uses the artwork under fair use claiming transformative/criticism, which is just blatantly false. The artwork is not transformed and it is not discussed directly. Its copyright infringement plain as day, of many artists, every video. This is NOT ok. After writing my previous comment I checked and this channel has actually used a painting of mine without every notifying me or asking permission. THIS IS ILLEGAL. I've done professional artwork for the Lord of the Rings franchise. You have no idea wether or not it is fan art or who owns the copyright. In my case, the artwork was on my portfolio which contains work that was commissioned by individuals and studios which now hold the copyright (disregarding for a second that me owning my own copyright is in fact, enough).

I want to make clear that I'm not being a pedantic asshole. Being an artist is a real career and blatant theft of someone's work should not be excused in any way whatsoever. It is way too common in our society to sort of dismiss this. Nerd of the Rings, you need prior permission to use any of this work, before ever publishing a video. You clearly know this since you're trying to cover yourself in every description -- everything you claim in the description about this is wrong and would make no difference in court. You are just being lazy. Even worse is, I'd wager most artists who did indeed do fanart, would gladly give permission.

Honestly I think my favourite moment is the Ring's multiple attempts to tempt Sam. After same rejects the vision of himself as "Hero of the Age", the Ring instead tries to show Sam nurturing Mordor into a beautiful Garden, trying to play to the simple gardner's love. But Sam sees through this illusion as well, and rejects the temptation of the ring AGAIN.

It's ironic because he *does* become Hero of the Age in a way of speaking. He rescues Frodo from Cirith Ungol, gives the ring back willingly, helps Frodo to make it up the mountain, and saves him from a fiery fate. It's just great that Sam doesn't see himself that way. He's the ultimate definition of a Hobbit: Humility.

Or did it fulfil his desire to become Samwise, Dark Lord of Domestic Botany, but it turns out that it's really hard to be really evil when your primary motivation is the well being of your plants. If you can find an evil plant I encourage you to tell me about it. And I mean Evil; I'm not talking poisonous, I'm talking active malevolence, like an Ent that's a Manchineel tree.

I always loved how the Ring couldn’t understand Sam, trying to tempt with huge gardens built by slave labor and all that. It shows how much Sauron failed to understand-he thought only in terms of what he would do, never comprehending the motives of more benevolent and less power-hungry beings; thus, he bought the bait offered at the Black Gate by Aragorn the heir of Isildur and Gandalf, whom the Dark Lord believed desired to become a Kingmaker if we can measure by the poison he sown in the mind of Denethor… And his Ring, infused with all his malice and cruelty, failed to understand the simple humility of hobbits and tried to impress Sam with delusions of grandeur that were antithesis on to his character; instead of tempting Sam, it repulsed him and furthered his resolve to save Frodo and finish the Quest.

The most entertaining moment in the Ring’s existence is definitely one of times Bilbo used it to hide from the Sackville-Bagginses. Anyone with relatives they don’t like will understand.

I like when gollum slips at the cracks of doom. What sounds a like almost a lazy and easy resolution of the narrative is actually a very rare moment of direct divine intervention.

For they were forgotten. The whole mind and purpose of the Power that wielded them was now bent with overwhelming force upon the Mountain. At his summons, wheeling with a rending cry, in a last desperate race there flew, faster than the winds, the Nazgûl, the Ring-wraiths, and with a storm of wings they hurtled southwards to Mount Doom.

I love the theory that when Gollum is threatened with his doom if he touches Frodo again, that it is actually the voice of The One speaking through him. The ultimatum is not Frodo-like at all, and the wheel of fire may be a symbol of the Ring's sentient nature. But that's just a theory

You seem to have missed the key point - as most people have done - that when Frodo uses the Ring against Gollum on the slopes of Mount Doom, he commands that Gollum will be cast into the Cracks of Doom if he harms him,. Gollum did harm him, and was bound by the Ring's own power of command to fall. Therefore, the Ring was unmade by it's own power and design, the power to dominate and command - it wasn't a matter of good fortune. I'm certain that this was intentional on Tolkien's part, as the command doesn't make any sense if they're not at the Cracks of Doom.

Hearkening back to this bit in Emyn Muil, when Gollum says he will swear on the precious to serve Frodo. "Frodo drew himself up, and again Sam was startled by his words and his stern voice. 'On the Precious? How dare you?' he said. 'Think! "One Ring to rule them all and in the darkness bind them." Would you commit your promise to that, Smeagol? It will hold you. But it is more treacherous than you are. It may twist your words. Beware!'"

Funny thing is - if I remember correctly - is that Tolkien wrote that Eru himself caused Gollum to slip and fall into the fire. Never seen a more lethal slip than that ;)

Gollum did not fall to his death while celebrating. Bit of a long explanation but here it goes: While in Lothlorien, Frodo asks Galadriel why he cannot control people's will if he bears the ring. Galadriel responds that it is because he has not tried to. When Gollum attacks Frodo and Sam, part of the reason he continues to show them the way is that his will has been so sapped away by the ring, that he is completely at the will of the one who bears it. Frodo starts to use the one ring to keep Gollum in check. Frodo swore that if Gollum tried to claim the Ring he would be cast into the Fire. "In the last need, Sméagol, I should put on the Precious; and the Precious mastered you long ago. If I, wearing it, were to command you, you would obey, even if it were to leap from a precipice or to cast yourself into the fire. And such would be my command." On the slopes of Mount Doom Frodo issued a command through the Ring to Gollum: "If you touch me ever again, you shall be cast yourself into the Fire of Doom." So when Gollum assaults Frodo and bites off his fingers, the will of the ring forces him to yeet himself.

Yeah, but it has to do a lot with how oaths work in LotR. Oaths and curses have a lot of power attached to them. Frodo made Gollum swore an oath through the Ring, ON the Ring, ensuring that if the oath was broken (which it was) the Ring and Gollum would be destroyed.

This is stunning to me. I thought Isildur was one of the heroes of that last desperate battle against Sauron. To think that an even more legendary and desperate battle was being fought in front of him is awesome!

Isildur's father fighting to the Death with Sauron, leaving both dead, was the peak and end of that war. Isildur fighting along Elrond right behind Isildur's father put Isildur in the position to pick up his father's already broken sword and cut of Sauron's finger, take the ring and ignore Elrond's plea to throw it into Mount Doom. Advice much later accepted and facilitated by his heir Aragon, who fought great battles to distract Sauron from Frodo's quest.

My favorite one ring moment is when Aragorn pledges his sword to Frodo for taking the brave task of carrying the ring to Mount Doom, and that comes to a full circle, when at the black gates, Aragorn shouts "FOR FRODO" and charges forward alone, because he had full unwavering trust on the little hobbit to destroy the one ring.

When I first read "The Hobbit" I didn't even think where the ring came from. Then I read and watched " The lord of the rings" and I couldn't believe Bilbo had the most dangerous thing in the entire world in his pocket the whole time. After this I watched "The Hobbit" trilogy and it was so bizarre for me to see the ring as an ally (sort of) and Bilbo using it without fear .

Especially when you consider the fact that at the time the hobbit was written, the Lord of the rings hadn’t been, nor had there really been talk of a sequel, or if there had it may not have been serious. So it’s almost like that version of the ring was an entirely different version. It was only when Tolkien decided to make the ring the Central plot point to the sequel to the hobbit, he had to rethink it, since there would’ve been no way in hell that Gollum would have been able to willingly offer the ring up as a prize to Bilbo for winning the riddle game which is how that scene originally played out when the hobbit was first published. So it was very clever the way he went back and rewrote the scene later when he was working on the Lord of the rings so that it would match up.

My favorite moment is Faramir showing wisdom and helping Frodo on his mission. The movie made Faramir look weak and easily corrupted. In the book, Faramir never wavered and did what was right without regard to himself. He showed the same wisdom as Aragorn.

I also really appreciate where Faramir's captain reminds him that if Faramir does not tell of the encounter with the Hobbits, according to Denethor's law Faramir's life is forfeit; and Faramir says only "Then it is forfeit." Such bravery and resolution! Faramir knows of the trouble of the Ring and wisely determines that it is too dangerous to be revealed to his father, even though Faramir is perhaps unaware of the Palantir.

Love it as always. As powerful as the One Ring is, it's more of a double edged sword for Sauron. Because while it does grant him control over the races of Middle-Earth who possess their own rings of power Sauron's very life was dependant on the ring because he poured everything he has into it for it to become the most powerful.

Not really, the only way to destroy the ring was direct action from Eru, even without the ring in his possession he was taking the whole show over. Ultimately it comes down to him being pridefully blind to the reality that he cannot beat Eru, just like his master before him.

Hubris and halflings unknown to him. He never thought anyone would try to destroy it because he himself wouldn't. The dark lord was beaten by halflings, 3 of them. One 500-year old ring junkie, one tempted descendant of Bilbo, the other a gardener. He must be fuming.

I dont like the "double edged sword" idiom. Double edged swords are not any more dangerous to the user than single edges swords. It would make more sense to talk about a flail or a nunchuk because those can be very dangerous to the user.

There were, perhaps surprisingly, only two periods in which we saw Sauron fully using the power his ring, both of them in the Second Age. And both were terrifying. The first was when he used it to successfully enslave many kingdoms of men and declared himself Overlord of Middle-earth. It took the full might of Númenor at the height of its power to bring down his armies. The second was after Númenor had sunk and his own corporeal form was destroyed. Even so diminished, it took the Last of Alliance of Elves and Men to defeat him. The ring was even able to restore his body, and indeed it cost the lives of the last two great warriors of old, Gil-galad and Elendil, to destroy that body, and with it end the Second Age. The Third Age began in the aftermath of the devastation caused by Sauron's dominion over the rings. The northern kingdoms of the Dúnedain were shattered and destroyed by Angmar, and Gondor was kingless. The dwarven strongholds, overly greedy and confident because of their rings, fell to dragons one by one, until finally Khazad-dûm was captured by a balrog. Rivendell, Lothlorien, and Mithlond held the last remnants of elves, but they were withdrawn and defensive. This was the most diminished and weakened resistance that Sauron had ever faced. Had he been able to recover his ring, and thus his powerful body, there is no doubt that he would have crushed them.

I think my favorite moment of the ring is when the ring dissolved into the lava and the tower with the eye breaks apart. The army stops fighting and watches the destruction of Mordor. In the film it is a powerful moment, and the musical score really packs on the emotion in that scene. ☺️

Great video! I think my own personal favorite moment is the tempting of Galadriel. In the Peter Jackson film it is an enormously powerful scene of course, and the visuals there are truly epic to my mind. But in the book, there's even more threat, a chilling sense of just how much Galadriel wants that power. And knowing what I know now - after reading over so much of the "extra" material, especially the Silmarillion - the scene is ever more poignant. Because after all, the pursuit of power was part of what led to the downfall of her kin - and the Ring surely must represent a potential chance to seize great power once again...and because Galadriel is at heart a kind person, I can well imagine the sort of thoughts that might whisper to her in that moment. "But THIS time, I can use the power for good. THIS TIME, I can prevent destruction, not cause it. I can shield my people. There need never be another Kinslaying, if only I take up this ring and wield it in the name of good..." And of course that's not at all true, because the One is a corrupted, and corrupting, power. "Instead of a dark lord you would have a queen, beautiful as the dawn, treacherous as the sea." To know that of oneself - to be able to face the hard truth that you would NOT do as your heart wishes to do, but would succumb...to look at your soul and see without flinching the flaws within yourself. That's a strength of a completely different kind, and it is breathtaking. The One Ring bares the absolute worst things about Galadriel - and she then shows the very best of her qualities, and turns away from its poisonous song.

It's not to be a warrior-Princess, but to be able to resist VERY great temptation, and DO NO EVIL, and to stand against all those who do. All her actions were in alignment with what she professed to believe, and to the original vision and song of Eru. She was rewarded by being granted a return to the Blessed Realm.

I’m not too twerked about it anymore. The criticism has been made; people will watch the show, or not. The BIG problem, as I see it, is not the racially-directed casting, but what they’ve done to the HEART of the story. LOTR and supporting works are steeped in Catholic faith and Christian sensibilities. ROP is neither of these. ROP emasculates men, steals roles that were given to men by JRRT and gives them to Mary Sue (Galadriel). I don’t have to explain what a Mary Sue is. When Galadriel killed the troll with ease while guys stood around doodling their doodles, THAT is a classic Mary Sue moment. The Harfoots look like they’re movin on up to the East Side, they just have nothing to wear but dirt and weeds. The imagination (or lack of it) of the writers is pathetic. As to JRRT and evolution of the story, in the original Silmarillion version warrior Galadriel is NOT present. It looks like older JRRT started falling in love with his own love of Mary Sue. You're certainly entitled to your opinion.

My two favorite ring moments are when Tom Bombadil puts it on, and it has no power to turn him invisible or corrupt him, which shows that Sauron's power is not absolute, and that there are older and different forces at work in the universe. To me it is one of the more hopeful moments in the journey because it demonstrates that the ring is not an elemental force. And I like when Galadriel fantasizes about taking the ring for herself, because it answers the question that Boromir never understood: that even if used with the intent for good, the ring will always corrupt its wearer (except for Bombadil, natch). Wonderful narration with lots of great details. One minor quibble. You say that "Gollum slipped and the ring was destroyed." The key point you omit, is that Gollum, on and to the ring, swore an oath to Frodo to do his bidding, and then violated that oath. The ring punished him for violating his oath, killing him, and so, destroying itself. Perhaps the positive powers in the Tolkien universe had something to do with that. Does not Gandalf say to Frodo, "Gollum will have some role to play yet, for good or for evil"?

Yeah, I agree. In a sense Frodo might have caused Gollum's, and therefore the ring's, death. As quoted from the book, after Gollum has sworn an oath to protect the master of the precious, Frodo says this curious quote to Smeagol: "In the last need, Smeagol, I should put on the Precious; and the Precious mastered you long ago. If I, wearing it, were to command you, you would obey, even if it were to leap from a precipice or to cast yourself into the fire. And such would be my command. So have a care, Smeagol!" So I think that because Gollum didn't follow the oath he swore "on the precious", that's why he ended up falling into the flames of Mt. Doom. He betrayed the ring and his oath to Frodo. Frodo saying "such would be my command" about leaping off the precipice reinforces this theory. It's interesting to think about. There's an interesting video on this subject at In Deep Geek's youtube channel, called "Did Frodo Curse Gollum?" I suggest checking it out.

For me one of the best moments is the fact that Gollum falls in the chasm. This is the result of the mercy that Bilbo showed him all those years ago, that Frodo showed him when they met and finally at the end. Mercy is the last thing that the ring is supposed to do and yet its last bearers where the exact opposite of what the ring was supposed to be. Mercy destroyed the One Ring.

Excellent video. Thank you for citing the source of Tolkien basically saying Sauron had the ring in Numenor. That does make more sense for the story, but in the Akallabeth, the wording insinuates that once Sauron's spirit return to Barad-Dur "he took up again his great ring in Barad-Dur and dwelt there, dark and silent...". At first (and otherwise forever, unless the letters are read), it sounds like his ring was waiting for him but that doesn't mean he took up the ring *that was waiting for him in Barad-Dur* only that he could not put it on again until fleeing back to Mordor. Interesting. After so many years of studying this lore, my view points can still be changed... #FreeMorgoth #WWETBD

Amazing video as always! My favorite One Ring moment has to be Faramir's rejection of the One! It was absolutely awesome! I love any moment when someone resists the One, like Tom Bombadil. These moments are my favorite because they carry such a beautiful message of hope! No evil is irresistable! But sadly I fear amazon's series title is just a distraction as a supposed expert who is counselling amazon told The Guardian they will focus on things Tolkien did not write about, quoting "inventing the answers", also most of the protagonists are characters made up by amazon with very....odd names for tolkien characters, like "Tyra". The main villain is also "original" and is called Oren. Without Sauron as the main villain during his most active age, I fear the show is about a bunch of non existing characters with very modern names inserted in the general atmosphere of second age middle earth, and all of Tolkien's work will be just a vague backdrop to a generic fantasy series to attract the fanbase as "views fodder" but made to please the exact opposite audience, the ppl who dislike Tolkien and think it should be improved. To summon it up, to me its feeling a lot like fanfiction.

I always figured Sauron was killed when the ring was destroyed; how interesting that he wasn't actually dead but rendered powerless. For him that would be a much worse fate than dying.

That even Eru Ilúvatar itself had a part to play and made Gollum slip in that crucial climactic moment is a testament to the monumental influence of so little a thing. Several thousands of years and characters whose existences were bound to the ring in one way or another, for good or evil. In my opinion, that's the most fascinating aspect of it all. Among the many literary motives in Tolkien's work, the fate motive is one of the most interesting. After the Council of Elrond has decided that destruction of the ring is the only option and that Bilbo can't do this, no one wants to take it and silence lies over the scene. Then, Frodo feels like facing some sort of "judgement", one that he had anticipated for a long time, but hoped that it would never be made. He then stands up and says that he will take the ring, but it seems to him that someone else speaks with his voice. I think this shows clearly that Frodo is destined (by Illúvatar) to bear the ring and try to destroy it. At least that's what Elrond tells Frodo a few moments later and what Gandalf somewhat crypticly explaines in another scene.

Gandalf Mentions them in Shadow of the Past in the books. He calls them "mere trifles and Essays in the craft, but he mentions that they were to his mind dangerous for mortals to handle. But then he mentions that the Great Rings were perilous in comparison.

20:24. 'Little does Frodo realize, but this voice is none other than the ressurected Gandalf who lies upon Celebdil'. As far as I remember, Gadalf was brought by an eagle to Lorien the day after the Fellowship left the forest, therefore he was not on Celebdil by the time Frodo was at Amon Hen.

Bilbo wasn't the only one, Sam was also able to willingly give up the ring back to Frodo. But I agree on Bilbo letting go of the ring being one of my favorite One Ring moments, especially in the movie adaptation with the epic music and a great boom as the ring hits the floor. It's awesome.

What a fantastic video. This summary, accompanied by the beautiful artwork, is worthy of the greatness of the work covered. My favorite part of the ring’s journey cannot be a surprise to most. When Sam picks up Frodo and says his line for the ages, “I may not be able to carry the ring, but I can carry you!”, my heart pauses each time I watch this seen. You realize right there that Samwise is, indeed, the most powerful Hobbit to ever live.

My favorite "one ring" moment was when Sauron took on the form of Beyonce and performed "If you like it then you should've put a ring on it" thinking that would work on the fellowship

Seconding all the praise here… and thank you for pointing out that Sauron was not supposed to be a disembodied eyeball floating over his tower. I love the movies and Jackson’s license is pretty restrained, but I always resented that decision. It was just so silly.

This was a fun video, but several little things always come up with me when discussing a One Ring, and it's history. When Sauron put on the One, the elves knew, and took the Three off, engaging him, but then it seems the Seven and the Nine were already in a box or else every single elf was unfairly hacks-ed enough to take them all off. If most weren't even in play, and Sauron wasn't initially aware of the Three, why did he don it? When Sauron declared himself King of Men, and the Numenorians came to do something about it, why were they SO strong? They were already falling to Evil, so distancing from Valinor, and one would think that living on a finite island, along with longer lifespans, would actually lead to a SMALLER force, but even with Sauron, and all his power behind them, his orcs just up and fled. Other than NEEDING to destroy it, to undo him and his power, it just seems like when Sauron has it, the Ring actually isn't that impressive. So he goes to Numenor, and finishes the corruption of the King's Men. The Men he couldn't destroy are instead duped into being destroyed by Eru Illuvatar, in one of his rare, almost unfair moments of direct intervention. He wouldn't drop Mordor into the earth, and Sauron with it, or tear it off, and set it far across a gulf, but Men come for His elves, to the one land mostly untainted by Melkor's discord, and He obliterates them, and reshapes the world. Even this doesn't kill Sauron, yet his spirit can somehow carry the One Ring all the way back to Middle Earth, and THEN across most of it, back to Mordor? Did he west-loop around the newly rounded world, and avoid most of the lands we know? Did people see a gold ring floating in the air, or rolling along the ground? He gets back to Mordor, and a new war starts. At least his orcs stood brave now, but Sauron takes little direct action, and even with the One,, in hid own land, he is bested. He doesn't take shapes to massacre his fors, like a mighty werewolf, or beorn-bear; he just goes weapon to weapon against lesser beings, and yet the fallen angel is felled. Isidur takes the Ring, but eventually can't even wear it. Why didn't his spirit find it when Isildur died, and pick it back up, out of the Anduin? Why was this death mire devastating than Illuvatar sinking Numenor? Why couldn't he just sense where so much of himself was? Gollum used it for centuries; why didn't the Wraiths swarm into the caves, drawn to the One? Last one, and this really belongs more on the Nine video but, several of the Wraiths are described as powerful sorcerers. Why? While I guess there are some few "wizards" in Middle Earth, apart from the Istari, we never hear about them, or any of their exploits. As a D&D player, none of the Nazgul felt like casters to me, and despite Tolkien's own strong religious beliefs, people in Middle Earth don't seem to worship Illuvatar, or any God, so there aren't clerics. What are these magics, and what did they ever do? Even the Istari were usually reserved in the use of their magics, so I know nothing of these mortal casters.

Tolkien's ideas on what "sorcery" was would be worth its own entire video. D&D takes most of its cues on magic from the work of Jack Vance, which is where the dependence on spellbooks and exhausting spells per day comes from. Tolkien's ideas on magic are more folkloric, and can be more easily systematized the way The Librarians (TV Series) did their magic system: "power source, focus mechanism, chosen effect". Many things can serve as power sources, not least of which are the life forces of others. Tolkienian sorcerers are those who understand this system and leverage it as part of how they do things. This is similar but different from how Gandalf, Saruman, Sauron, and other Maiar expressed their abilities largely by unveilling their innate nature. It's also different from how master-craftsmen would create wondrous objects, like the Rings or named swords and bows. There's not much way of actually locking it down too far, because Tolkien doesn't give a lot of examples: understanding sorcery isn't necessary to understanding any of his stories, so he doesn't need to explain. But as an example, Galadriel's usage of a pool of water, the Mirror of Galadriel, is definitely sorcery rather than craftsmanship. So is Elrond's control over the river at Rivendell.

@@Duiker36 My only issue there is there's no doubt the elves are a magical people; Eru Illuvatar gave them every advantage they could hold, but the Nazgul were Men, and that's where it falters for me. I don't recall any other Men who could "use magic", and while several of the Nazgul were incredibly vague, already, he doesn't elaborate on anything they did. The Numenorians didn't seem to bring sorcerers with them, even though they were mighty, once related to the elves, in a way, and long-lived. Gondor didn't have court wizards, nor did Rohan. Though the Istari did mention a necromancer, and not immediately doubt the idea, I often feel that's what sets them apart to other Men; they can use magic, which otherwise often seems the province of elves.

If you remember in ROTK, Peter Jackson beautifully created a scene where Sam is climbing up the stairs in Cirith Ungol and his dark shadow scares the Orcs above. You may not have noticed it then, but it was the ring that he carried that at first gave Sam this aura of fear to the Orcs. Great job once again that shows PJ was an avid fan and tried his best to stay as close to the books as possible.

PJ's best was not very good then, unless he was often overruled by the production committee (which is a distinct possibility, production committees generally being comprised of orcs, trolls, and evil spirits).

Excellent video. As always. I’m glad you addressed the “Did Sauron bring the ring to Numenor?” question. But I have a thought on that. If Sauron was able to bring the ring with his spirit when Numenor was destroyed, then why not bring the ring with his spirit into the east when Isildur cuts the ring off his finger?

It was a plot hole, mostly. Tolkien made a mistake, and the Ring should have been lost in the Sea if Sauron fell in Numenor. One explanation that Tolkien would later give to this is that Sauron left the Ring hidden in Middle-Earth BEFORE going to Númenor (which makes no sense).

It depends a lot on *how* he brought the Ring back from Numenor. If it required preparation, since the sinking of the island wasn't instantaneous, like performing a ritual, then he wouldn't have had similar time when Isildur cut off his finger. Further, Isildur's *intent* may very well have been to sever the Ring from Sauron: it doesn't read like he just missed and accidentally cut off the finger: which means that Isildur's will would have prevented Sauron from reclaiming it immediately: time enough for Isildur to take ownership of it. Presumably, a physical hand holding the Ring would trump an Unseen hand trying to grab it.

First thanks to finally bringing a real Question here , Michael give great hypothesis but still I think its a big plot holes in tolkien works. But what we must understand is all the works before lotr and the hobbit is just a lot of short story trying to figure out what happen before the event of frodo and bilbo. And its what make. Nerds of the rings greats video trying to take all the tolkien clues and telling a story
