Ugh! It sounds like January has been so weird for you! Items so frustrating when we feel so different from how we’re “supposed” to feel. I know I always feel like I have to pause on *everything* when I’m waiting for news. Congratulations on your poetry getting accepted!

A lot on your plate no matter what. Rushing to meet the deadline definitely kneecapped whichever short story it was. I'd argue it's no as much of a reflection on you as it is on the submission window. Unless the submission field is ultra-competitive, a properly-timed deadline can inspire the best work in the majority of writers. Recently rewatched the LOTR trilogy. I bet Silmarillion will contain plenty of fun seeing how many easter eggs Peter Jackson planted that people only got if they read Silmarillion. January IS a weird month. Imposter syndrome and stuckness seems to be connected to the expectation of starting a year fresh. Which makes it all the more frustrating when you're forced to play the waiting game. Congratulations 🤍 on your 2 poems. Very glad you get to share your soul in those meaningful ways.

Yeah, I think because I was also mentally struggling to pick and stay on a specific story I hindered myself. I do think deadlines can be a great tool, it just wasn't what I needed at the end of December/beginning of January. And this particular publication IS super competitive so I shot myself in the foot lol I can't wait to do my rewatch of LOTR after reading the Silmarillion this year!! I rewatch every year but I agree that it's going to add so much more depth! You're right, it's so silly and I know it's a mental block more than anything but damn if it still wasn't hard to get out of that mindset lol Thank you!!!

Thank you!! I know I won't get anywhere if I don't try to submit my pieces, so the rejection is a little easier to handle on the fiction pieces, but they'll find a home one day!
