I love this movie for so many reasons. It gets so many details of 1964 just right. Of course, it's a sanitized version (very little smoking in the movie, for instance), but the art direction, Howard Shore's score, the costumes, EVERYTHING is great. Tom Hanks has so many details in the back story. For instance, Del Paxton's "Live at the Philadelphia Jazz Junction" was released in April of 1956. Just brilliant!
Still exciting after more than 25 years... I just noticed that it's 1964 and they are broadcasting the show in Color. I don't think that would be happening. Unless they are filming it for future syndication, knowing more than 5% of homes will have color TV after 1966, a topical, timely variety show is going to be in Black n White in '64. Ed Sullivan, the reigning King, didn't switch to color until September 1965... for the 66 season. Still fun to imagine that this is real.
I watched this movie several times.the lead singer guy was a self centered idiot. That girl stood with him and did everything she could to make there band work. You can’t find women like that every where. Especially young ones.
