@@MADNESSCOMBAT10 then every model asset would be low res, and no more realistic games. also, if they were to make a high res voxel model, it would be so laggy that it unplayable
Short hax we got a very similar recommendation but seriously what do you want! Btw ye neither did I think he would speedrun a game where you basically have to destroy everything
@@JadetheFiend it's how the game was made. The engine for the game is coded like that. It's how the game can actually make building collapse and everything destructible without scripting every part of destruction
This is honestly a beautiful looking game. It almost looks real even with everything made of voxels. It almost looks more real than games that try to look realistic.
For those wondering about the game, It's called teardown and its actually an indie game made by a guy called Dennis Gustafsson, not really sure but I think it was made on a custom game engine, That's it.
The physics in this game looks really good, but I will say that Red Faction Guerilla had some really fun destruction. I don't recall if EVERYTHING was destructible, but you could destroy a lot of things in a lot of different ways.
"The good thing about locked doors is that if the door just doesn't exist anymore, then it's not locked" - Boffy 19/8/2021 edit - This is the most liked comment I have ever gotten, thanks, guys!
structural integrity would make everything more complicated for this game, but there are mods that have it edit: there's also free play in the main menu, and in one of the later campaign missions theres tanks and missiles. you use them to completely level a part of a giant mall :))
Sometime I don't know if I should be worried about Boffy making the content, or if I should be worried about how much I enjoy his chaotic sadistic slightly worrying content. Thank you for the great videos, you sick fuc-
Teardown is made by just one guy, not by "devs". He built the whole voxel engine by himself, adding correct burn, smoke and bend physics and tons of other little details.
Ther are A LOT of tools on the Steam workshop for this game that let you destroy things in very creative ways. Meteor strike, physics gun, literally a nuke, a railgun, air strikes, c4, there are no limits.
This game is honestly so great, as long as you have a computer that can run it. Some other hilarious things to try in Part 2: - There are few awesome easter eggs hidden in the starting area. Look around for places you can enter or climb into. - You can hop on an object then keep grabbing it to fly if you time it right (like cube glitch in Portal). This lets you get on roofs or wherever you want really. - You can break the windmill at the starting area and then do the aforementioned thing to fly extremely fast/far due its motor adding momentum to the physics. - You can climb up most tress then hop around on top of them. Entertaining at the edges of the map where there are many trees.
I really hope some day soon we start seeing full fledged triple A games with this insane level of destructability. The thought of being able to one day play a game like GTA or red dead redemption with explosions and bullets causing real damage and seeing buildings crumble sounds so awesome
Like imagine playing rdr2 and throwing some dynamite at an enemy and it blows up causing a wall theyre taking cover behind to completely crumble. Shit would be so cool
I imagine this will be one of the baseline priorities in games 5-8 years from now. Graphics in games such as rdr2 can’t be improved much more, it’s just too good. Destruction, Accessibility, etc would be more prioritized.
Okay but why does it actually look beautiful? Great light fx, water, 60fps, everything a modern day game misses. Genuine. care. for player. experience.
it's called Red Faction. the original was made like 20 years ago but you should check out Red Faction Guerilla, it's basically just this game but with better graphics, and it's not pixels
"I kinda expected it to be low budget" Heck no. My brother knows some of the developers, and pretty much every second of the tests/prototypes were amazing. (He isn't a dev, he just knew them.)
When I saw this in my Subbox I just thought "Boffy and Teardown, this is just perfectly fitting!". I would love to see him doing more of this game in the future!
a couple decades ago there was a FPS called Red Faction. "The premiere feature of the game is its "Geo-Mod" technology, short for "geometry modification", which provided destructible environments, allowing the player to destroy certain sections of the scenery in the game."
