As far as solo covers go, Josh's is the best IMO. However there is a group cover which is my absolute favorite overall...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l2tkeeRGBj8.html
Your Paul Simon covers are spectacular. Also, my engagement photos were taken in that same tunnel. Also, this song was on our wedding cocktail hour playlist...
Yes, the vocal timbre, the phrasing, pitch, all of it is creepily like Paul Simon's voice. I hope Paul gets to hear Josh sing & play. It's really uncanny.
Great performance, vocally and instrumentally. Many RU-vid viewers may not be aware of the background of this song. "Tom, get your plane right on time . I know your part’ll go fine. Fly down to Mexico". Who is Tom, and why is he flying down to Mexico? Simon and Garfunkle were known initially as ""Tom and Jerry" after the cartoon characters (a tall cat and a small mouse). After achieving success, Art Garfunkle (Tom) got a part in the movie "Catch-22" which was being filmed in Mexico. Paul Simon's part was cut out of the script. Paul wrote the song, and remained behind in New York, for a very long time. And within a year, the group broke up. For extra credit, "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" eventually featured the "Farkel Family", which included twins named Simon and Gar Farkel.
Paul Simon wrote All the songs words and music. Art is on video saying he just cannot write a song... Didn't matter... No one could write and sing songs like Paul Simon anyway... :)
i know you have a pretty strict "no requests" rule so i never bother to ask, but the angels came down from the firmament and gave me this S&G cover. thank god, they're just people, too.
What an amazing cover. Sounded like Paul and Art and a full band, and it’s just one guy with a guitar. That was mindblowingly brilliant. I’m out of adjectives
@@bossHogOG I'm not easily impressed, but, that is quite impressive. Through the power of RU-vid and song I have made a literal connection to Paul Simon, I almost know the guy. The next time you see him tell him I'm sorry it didn't work out with Carry Fisher, and that he's one of the people whose words and music I admire most, one of our greatest writers. And tell him not to cut his hair so short, or shorter, I don't mind, both are good.
I'm so impressed by this. My dad (may he forever rest in peace) bought me the Bridge Over Troubled Water album back in 1970, shortly after it's release. That album immediately held deep meaning for me upon first listening, and it still does to this day. I have always loved this song, and have shared that love with MANY people over the years. There was a certain kind of sincerity we used to hear in singers back then, that I just don't hear very often in singers nowadays (maybe it's all that horrible pitch correction software they're using now, which, in my opinion, is a crime against music). Well, you've got the old magic in your voice, and your guitar playing is flawless. Listening to this, I got the same chills the original recording has always given me! Josh, you would have been huge in the late 60s/early 70s, that's for sure. It does my heart good to see and hear a young person performing this music of my youth, nailing it in every way. Bravo.
I have chills. Josh, I have not heard of you until this moment. The best cover I have ever heard of one of my favorite songs. I hope Paul Simon sees it someday, or has seen it.
He mentioned in his notes below the video that he didnt add any extra reverb, it was the natural accustics from the tunnel.. wow what a fantastic sound he captured.
LadyWatchingBird Oh yeah! It really was... My wife hadn’t heard him before and she was ‘blown away’... He’s an extraordinary talent.. if you get the chance to hear him live you must take it! Best wishes
This is nothing short of devastating. In a good way. A friend just passed suddenly from a massive stroke and I have been buried in reflexion of how fleeting life is. Was just yesterday I fell in love with S&G’s unique sound and lyrics. Fifty years ago...
It's hard to stop listening to this gorgeous recording - on (what I'm pretty sure is ) a Martin D-12-20. Josh is a monster talent, choosing some of the greatest material. Thanks, my friend!
Thank you so very much for covering all these Simon and Garfunkel songs. They were the sound track growing up. And now you are the soundtrack all these years later. I’ve just been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and listening to you play and sing fills my soul with happiness joy and love. These songs mean the world to me and you do them so wonderfully with honor and integrity. I wish you all the best success as s mucican
I love that you can hear the cicadas in the background of the recording. I grew up in the tri state area and the cicadas were part the soundtrack of my childhood. Brings me back to the endless summers of youth... thanks J. T. Great stuff!
This Josh chap is wonderful... I can't get enough of his music. And his pals as well - are all Americans this talented?!! You guys playing such beautiful music with such big smiles on your faces is everything that's good about the world. Much love from Dover, UK
sorry Paul...he just blew your song away. This young man is so so very brilliant and talented. And his friends? Love when they all let the music out!!!! Thanks again so much! Big fan Josh! ❤️
Josh, that was sooo wonderful. I am listening to this over and over on my father’s birthday who has passed 10 years ago. I was little when he would play this LP constantly, and in many ways, it’s how I remember him thru music. I can’t tell you how impactful and meaningful your renditions of Kathy’s song and The only living boy in New York are to me. Thank you for making these memories so vivid and beautiful for me when remembering my Dad. Your tunnel sound effects are amazing and make this version other worldly. Thank you for the inspiration that you give people
Obviously Paul Simon is an absolutely incredible artist and his work is beyond any doubt... but I have to say, your cover is spectacular and will be added to my playlist. The Chorus in your version absolutely tears my heart out in the most positive way!
I've only just found this fabulous version after being obsessed (again) and seeking it on YT after the original was played on 6music Gideon Coe's brilliant show. Virtuoso performance and fantastic acoustics.
Just got the notification - as usual, not surprised that we have a quality video from the best channel on here. 12 string playing was just superb - you really have come on a lot since I first viewed Cannonball Rag on your Fender about ten years ago. I have viewed every video since that day, but this one really does have something very special going for it. Regards from one of your earliest subscribers in the UK.
I am always amazed that Josh doesn't have several million subscribers on YT. It's a shame, really. The man is so talented, as are the people he allows to join him
All ways considered a amazing guitarist. But is obvious you are an amazing vocalist. This video is a great example of your wonderful range. Thanks again for making my day.
