Man your reaction to your own chords at 2:57 was so honest and sincere that that by itself made me hit the subscribe button. I totally vibed with that instantanious kind of "look what I found in my creation" like you have something pre-existing inside yourself that only needs to be looked up, or found. Cool moment 🥰 Cherish these moments.

More or less I already knew all these tricks except for the atmosphere one, that was magic, with the unison and the massive reverb 1 note sounds like a full chord. Nice work as always.

WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN UNISON AND THE FULL CHORD?
@janjezek9333

How did you always make these heart touching melodies? Is this intuition, voicings, sold-your-soul magic, mathematics, or behind the scene trial and error? (Or all of them?) Please make some videos of these, this is (one of) your strengths 🤩
@fmaylinch
@fmaylinch Год назад
After spending a lot of time and money in courses, I think that this is something very difficult to explain. Or I am a bad student :) Anyway, I think that Rome tends to omit the why, and just shows the how. Maybe he just doesn't know, and he learnt by practice and intuition like, I suspect, most do. I think that Rome sometimes knows the why but he doesn't explain it, maybe because the videos would be too complex, boring and long, or just because he wants to save those tips for his paid students. But beware. As I said, I've paid some courses, and most of that money has been wasted. Now I don't pay anymore until I see proof that I will learn something useful.
@Sky_666
@Sky_666 Год назад
He tends to use minor scales a lot, plus it's something you can learn from his other tutorials on chord construction, after watching many of his videos I can say that I now make better chords with similar vibes to the ones he creates.
@AlexRome
@AlexRome Год назад
Haha thanks! That’s a huge compliment. It’s a bit of everything you mentioned. There is some bit of trial and error you don’t see in preparation for each video. For example, sometimes I’ll write 5 to 10 melodies in search for a good melody to use in a video and it takes me multiple days to find one. Sometimes (like in the video above) I’ll write a single melody and get lucky. I should definitely make a video on this. It would be a fun video that I think would be creatively inspiring.
@fmaylinch
@fmaylinch Год назад
@@Sky_666 yep, minor scales are very common in electronic music.

Right after this video I twicked my current project with a new bassline synth. This is exactly the sound I've been loking for, thanks! The previous bass preset used the envelope mostly on the on the osc volume, but with the filter it works much better, leaving the base note sounding constantly in sub-bass range

This is what I do when making electronic music over the years when making laying in MIDI when composing. You're essentially creating space which helps greatly when mixing, as freqs are not hogging the mix. This video is highly impressive.

One of the things I appreciate about your mixing is when you find something 'good' you use it. I have a bad habit of finding a great sound and then saying, "that's good but I'm gonna see if I can find something better" MAN!😖 I waste so much time just looking for 'better' when what I have is more than sufficient.

Ducking is also called sidechaining. When you sidechain an instrument track to another track (usually the bass drum), the instrument will get quieter whenever the drum hits.
