he literally killed all of her family and friends, and then goes "its all settled, its only you and me now" While ive definitely seen better dramas, i think the message was pretty clear. He used and sacrificed everyone to become king, until he was completely alone.
Certain things did occur during those times like the prince or king having a harem inside their palace. I read the stories in the Bible and what women had to go through during those times I cannot even imagine.
The Prince is a real piece of work. He wanted the love and heart of the Princess while he has I don’t know how many concubines/wives? How many times did he betray and slap her for one of the other wives/concubines? Give the Princess a break and let her leave with her dignity intact. Women leave their homes and families to go off and get married. So would it have been a crime if a man made a sacrifice?

This is one of the most depressing drama I've ever watched. I even need 2 weeks before I can watch another drama. It's hard to move on from this drama.
I watched first on Viki. Should have waited til all epis are over. Hate the writers..hate him and I went on a binge with Kdramas to clear my head. Now I can watch the ML in his modern dramas
It would spoil the ending if they put them back together. Anyone who behaves the way the emperor was in this drama deserves never ending loneliness after the heinous crimes he committed. Not every ending should be the villain is forgiven and then lives happily. There are a few of these series where the empress or concubine dies and the emperor only realises what he had after she dies, it maybe sad but its a complete break away from the cruelty.
I read the novel,it's called the Eastern palace my goodness, I cried myself to tears and it's been years but yeah.the more I read heart breaking novels the more I'm scared of men.
He should have agreed in leaving his throne, she might have forgiven him because the throne was the reason why he did all those things to her family. 😢
I don’t think with any stretch some one could forgive the atrocities he committed against her family and then making her life hell once she married him. He loved her he got what he deserved in the end which was watching her die then having to live with it.
Will you? Also, i think its his sense of duty, he watched his elder siblings die for the throne and a whole lot of others and wanted to put a stop to it. As much as I really wanted for these to to have a happy ending in this era, there are way too many sins that cannot be easily forgotten.
I doubt she could have forgiven him even if he left the throne. She didn’t love him as the Prince she fell deeply in love with a character he created to enable him to slaughter her family and take over her country. That’s why she kept Gu Xiaowu was the person she loved and he died a long time ago that love could never be transferred, especially given the guilt she felt for taking him to her grandfather and enabling the whole clan to be murdered. I don’t think there is any way she could fall in love with him as a price no matter how much he loved her

what she ask of him was difficult for him. even if he really deeply loves her his top priority and responsibilitu was their palace. he cant just leave it and live an ordinary life for her because he was born a prince and who he is. it would be a betrayal if he just leave. if she really loves him she will support him and stays beside him no matter what as a wife.
I think she misunderstood the whole situation too much that she couldn’t forgive him. All he did was trying to protect her but she was too innocent and naive to understand that. It is too dangerous in the palace, if he shows his love and affection to her, she would be in danger. In the past, he used her because he didn’t fall in love with her yet but later on he only tries to protect her in his own way so that she wouldn’t be in trouble. By the way, he didn’t kill her family. Her grandpa decided that he rather die than give in and lose his dignity. So the grandpa asked the price to kill him, if the price didn’t do so he would be considered as a rebel because the king asked him to defeat this tribe. What more was his option at the time? ? And for her dad and mom, they were forced by the villain general to send Xiaofeng to marry the crown prince. If Xiaofeng didn’t ran away in the first way, all of this wouldn’t happen.
