I was stationed at VAFB twice and my wife is from Lompoc. The base is beautiful and has multiple micro environments, beach to scrub to woods. We worked at North Vandenberg in the Minuteman launch area. There were illegal aliens and vagrants jumping the trains that went through there and some intentional intruders we saw while doing maintenance on the launch facilities. I don't recall seeing horse patrols but that would be the only way to catch 'em. Great idea and it must be a little cool and breezy when the Vandenfog rolls in.
I remember seeing the security forces horse patrols at Clarke AB in the P.I., before the volcano blew. I wasn't aware Vandenburg did the same. I'm thinking that reinstituting horse patrols for perimeter patrols is a good idea.
I come from California original and because of political issues I've told myself i would not go back. I left F.E. Warren AFB on the new Code 50 orders in 2018. I went to Offutt AFB, 100% thinking that I would enjoy it. This is the exact opposite. I'm miserable here!!! If I would have know Vandenberg had a mounted patrol, I would have selected there for my Code 50! I hade a horse while I was at F.E. Warren and I miss her! I would not typically do this, but if any senior leadership from Vandenberg is reading this please help!!!!!
