This is one of the last award shows my grandfather watched before he died. He was so amazed by satellite tv. The thought that a tv show could be beamed around the world from the US to Australia was amazing to him. He was the first person in his street to buy a tv in 1956 -not cos he was a show off, but because he loved the idea of 'the cinema in your own home!' He would have loved the internet so much. Thanks for posting this wonderful bit of history. Edit: that ensemble of Raquel Welch's! Girl knows how to make an entrance. Fantastic. I have 2, 1 in silver, thanks! :-)

I'm in Brisbane, Australia, in my 50's and admittedly saw a few of these Academy Awards on TV. A different time and world. Saw the legends of screen, vaguely remember the moon landing, learnt and could calculate in binary at high school. Literally grew up with computers and one of the few who appreciates technology and how it improved our lives, bringing the world together. Just like the Silver Screen and Cinema, it brought people together, it entertained us and now we have a generation who don't even know about the Hollywood of old and take our technology all for granted. They're using the tech now in fact to destroy us. Why? PS. Do note the most elegant Raquel Welch at the end of the clip. Thanks for the memories and RIP.

This may have been the last year of the Old School Oscars. 1967 had some of the most influential films including DR. DOOLITTLE. It was definitely an end of an era. Bob Hope certainly made a career out of never winning an Oscar. But he was a comedian and was truly a treasure. A different era but still a treasure. His work with the USO is amazing. Thanks for posting.

Agreed. So much pretention beneath all of that plastic in most all of the prominent celebrities, and yes, now it is simply 'celebrity', often vulgar with no class and far too much spewing of ignorant opinions. You can see accounts that their lives were often sordid train wrecks even back in the day but most could at least maintain some dignity in public, even though that isn't much more than most of us expect or expected of our children when in public.

That was nice they mentioned Andy Devine, His legendary voice was due to an injury he recieved as a boy in Kingman AZ. The structure that he fell in and impaled his throat is still standing, and the longest road in town is named after him. If you can't remember hes voice, I think he was the Frier Tuck Badger in the Disney Animation, Robin Hood. and many westerns.

It's fascinating to see how the opening of the Oscars has changed; today we have interminable red carpet arrivals covered on the E channel and the networks interviewing actors and actresses ad infinitum about their designer gowns, jewelry, accessories, etc. while in 67, the stars were unapproachable, except for still photographers. It's also interesting to see how many stars changed spouses after these awards- Dick Van Dyke, Steve McQueen, Raquel Welch, Glenn Ford, Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave and Alan Arkin all re-married. Also sad to see the luminaries who have passed- Rock Hudson, Robert Mitchum, Walter Matthau, Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, McQueen, Mike Nichols, Patricia Neal and Jimmy Stewart.
