It may seem like an arbitrary decision, but the number of arms your cephalopod possesses determines a multitude of aspects of your build. Work together with me on these videos by subscribing to my Patreon Page! / tierzoo
Yep, great work m8. One major error in this video, in 3:35 tho. Ink ability is strong, small AoE blind, not stealth boost. It's quite a difference cause blind is very effective against single enemy, while stealth boost (like camouflage) is efficient against groups in term of escaping.
choosing the human as my first playthrough was such a great choice, thanks to the community my species created I know know how most of the builds work, as well as how the physics engine works!!
Maybe, but the very nature of INT is that it’s a bit of a misnomer stat: it’s not really a stat in the same way that Hp, power, or mobility is. It’s more a massive set of skills too long to be treated as a skill list, and instead gets summarized by most players as a single stat. Having a lot of these, or being very good at certain skills, is treated as a high int, while the inverse is treated as low int. Basically, while INT is overpowering, it, by its very nature, forbids mindless play. Dinosaurs got banned because the power creep was HP/Def/Pwr. Basically, it was a very straightforward Metagame of being chunky and hard hitting, with no point in trying to get super clever about things, usually. There was no need to make a creative gameplan for using these stats. High intelligence, meanwhile, requires creativity to be useful by very definition. It results in unpredictable answers, and overall, it’s made the Cenozoic a much more hectic and fun metagame than the sluggish tank meta before it. Keep in mind that while other kingdoms are playable, the animal kingdom is the only one that has a significant amount of INT, and is not coincidentally the most popular kingdom to talk about changes to. The ability to react to changes in the environment and anticipate them is the very crux of Outside.
int in itself is ok, can be good, but is also the most effective dumping stat for builds, who don't want to focus on it. What's broken is the ability to pass knowledge through language. Imagine if strength, dexterity, stealth etc could be passed down from your parents... Because of a bug in the game, experience points don't reset after death, if your int is high enough. Int is fine, this bug NEEDS to be fixed
@@luis-ie3de nah, a baseline can be passed down, but not your "skill points". My dad runs marathons and goes to the gym, I wish that was passed down too :P Obviously int, str and dex baselines and limits are passed down, but wisdom is more like additional skill points that are limited because of your game time. Language breaks that limit and that is what is op about int
Social intelligence is arguably even more important. The inability to abuse the wisdom gains sucks, but what’s worse is that Cephalopods don’t really get the ability to pass knowledge to other players. This is a massively broken skill to have, since it helps mitigate one of the main debuffs of respawning. In Humans, the effect is so strong that there is almost no loss of wisdom, and in fact, mid game human players can often have higher wisdom growths than late game human players from several playthrus ago. But Cephalopods? They tend to live alone, and so not only can they not pass it directly to the noobs they are in charge of creating a spawn point for, they can’t pass it off to other players either, meaning every single player has to “reinvent the wheel”, as human mains have taken to saying Tl:dr, this is why Smogon added a Baton Pass clause
spindash64 Also our ‘passing knowledge skill’ becomes insane when you add in the ‘Language skill’. I don’t even want to start on how completely broken this skill is. ‘Passing knowledge skill’ is something other common builds can also do, but humans allow the ‘Language skill’ to grow and change to the modern time allowing modern humans an understanding of what happened 1000 years ago in-depth about this build! Most animals have a way of communicating but Humans don’t just take the cake. They have an entire bakery to themselves.
@@spindash64 That's why they banned Baton Pass at all, and why so many complains about the nasty "teleport+wish" combo (As well as the generalist Clefable being the most meta defining nowadays), because passing any kind of buff to someone without making it to be in danger is OP.
Yeah but you need a whole kit to use that skill. Like opposable thumbs. I just spent all my EV points on sharp teeth, imposing frame and smell sense buffs.
Well, only the human build specs chat. As much as voice chat has been key to humans making their way to S-tier, other high INT builds do just fine using pre-set emotes (taunts and sound bites).
Arvid Axelsson yeah but after you Max out chat skills and have sufficiently high intelligence then you unlock the internet technology for the whole class which gives the impression of being a buff but is actually a debuff. It has positives but causes turmoil in the server itself. Now most other players either say I'm from the africa server, say they're going to mate with my mother, or tell me to purposefully delete my character entirely
IMHO, high INT builds are very powerful, but they have an unusual and discreet disadvantage in the context of the meta game; they're TOO strong relative to their high learning curve. Their power makes them attractive to poor players, but their demanding nature prevents any of those players from ever accessing the build's true power. Everyone is playing them nowadays, and maybe something like 15% of players even know how to use them optimally. Popularity isn't an issue if you're play style is simple; it doesn't matter to the insect guilds that most of their players suck, because even a shitty player can perform the rudimentary tasks they depend on. But playing a human is complicated; your imagination gives you the ability to spontaneously unlock new abilities, but it also makes your Emotion levels highly unpredictable. You can get HUGE debuffs to Productivity and Charisma seemingly out of nowhere. What's worse is that your character's mental stats, like WIS and RES, can be severely handicapped by neglectful, incompetent or even abusive parent characters before you even finish the tutorial. Doing well as a human requires that you make very efficient use of your time and learn early on how to deal with the double edged swords that are the Tech and Culture trees. Being able to spread a status effect to your entire guild may SEEM like an overpowered ability, but too many people forget that it can also spread DEBUFFS. Not to mention the fact that Culture often holds onto abilities that haven't been good since the Civilization expansion; abilities that often have permanent negative side effects like Superstition and Bigotry. This often leaves human players with a whole host of inefficient Culture and Tech abilities they didn't even want! The combination of the overwhelming number of players brought on by the build's power, it's unusually unintuitive play style, and it's quasi-democratic leveling mechanic, results in good players having to fight through the barrage of constant shit brought on by unskilled or even outright malicious players. You have to drag the rest of your guild kicking and screaming into a playable build, because if you don't, then they start cooking up all kinds of ridiculous joke tier specs. I'm talking about builds like the Puritanical Zealot, a psychotic challenge run build that arbitrarily locks off some of the best content (Like the Kinky Sex mini-game) and GRIEFS OTHER PLAYERS for not specing into it. Or the Nazi, a mass griefing build disguised as power leveling dreamt up by absolute psychopaths, all based around a debunked forum rumor about how what choices you make on the Character Appearance screen would affect your INT and WIS stats. And now you have players straight up ignoring the friendly fire warnings on their high level AOE Tech abilities to the point that they've managed to put a Burn status debuff ON THE SERVER ITSELF. A bunch of them are even deliberately trying to prevent the guild from taking the Green Energy ability to counteract the friendly fire effect, usually on the basis that it'll cut into their Economy trees, which is itself dependent on the things they're destroying! Please, if you are new to Life or just don't yet understand how the game works, for the love of the Dev, do not play human. There are already too many of us who don't know how to play. If the balancing issues get too much worse, Earth Games WILL institute that new Climate Disaster patch, and the whole guild will be nerfed.
when humanity finds out more on genetic engineering. “ It’s Pokémon time.” Other people “dragons, trolls, unicorns” tierzoo “Higher life expectancy for smart brained animals.”
This makes me think, "imagine you want to make the most unstoppable thing ever, if you were allowed to combine different builds into one, what build will you use to break the meta?"
You forgot one of the best builds in the octopus class - the *Blue-Ringed Octopus* . It combines some of the best abilities of the Octopus class with the best of the Cobra class from the land servers (some seriously minmaxed neurotoxic venom and insanely effective 'intimidate' moves).
Voltage Tortoiz Not always as the glow only shows up when it wants it to. It’s small enough and still close enough in color to its surroundings that it still has very good stealth bonuses and it doesn’t even really need stealth as its intimidate move is extremely effective.
This is one of the hardest guilds to unlock. I’ve been trying to do it in a multitude of playthroughs but have never succeded. It doesn’t help that the players in the Lovecraftian guild are some of the most secretive.
@@shadyrvn2023 I think one way is to be a support class, like a dog, for a lovecraftian clan. This can give you a slight chance to become a low-level lovecraftian build if you play as a human build and often sacrifice other humans to the lovecraftians, but it's dangeous and I wouldn't recommend
For most octopus builds are usually smart enough that they can mitigate their defense weakness by taking the shells found on the ocean floor and making armor out of them
You passed over my favorite niche class, Cuttlefish. It takes the grabs from Squids and marrys them with the intelligence and stealth of octopus. It's Hypnosis is pretty OP.
Argonwolfproject of course you nerfed yourself by trading intelligence for armor. If you wanted to armor up in the mollusc guild, might I suggest going bivalve? Intelligence is what makes cephalopod builds shine.
So Splatoon was really taking their notes on Inklings being Stronger but not as Intelligent with some Stealth, while Octolings are extremely Intelligent and Stealthy, but not as strong. Well done Splatoon
TipsGalore I fully expect that channel to be at "Primitive technology: building a quantum computer with sticks and MUD" Within a few years. He's already progressed to forging iron
well, the irony is that his citation for human INT is primitive technology being shown on a networked video server accessed via computer that was recorded months or years ago on a camera by a mostly naked man in a field.
I honestly think this is a great way to teach internet natives about evolution, even as a tech Dino this is much easier easier way to conceptualize the huge time scales and geographic areas discussed than conventional means
We really need a bunch of video game companies to make this a real game. Come on nintendo and valve! You guys make great games, work together for this!
I just binge watched every episode...... The addictability of this channel has been maxed out. The only thing that holds it back is the lack of content currently available. If this channel continues to grow at its current rate it will dominate the meta and trancend the cheap and often hated jake paul build.
Lee Doyle the clickbait skill tree is a really good short term skill but most find that it doesn't really scale well and it's difficult to adapt to multiple metas or even as the one meta you build for changes even slightly. The worst part is the deeper the tree goes The worst the problem goes.
Gavin Soon you'll start to lose subscriber points although your views will increase, then the news channels will swoop in to steal some glory, they can only survive off of people who invest in clickbait
Octopus main here, I have a warning for anyone who wants to play as a octopus that micromanaging all those arms gets difficult, but if you're prepared for it I highly suggest playing as a octopus.
The weird thing about the arms is that when you are not focussed on them a seperate AI for every arm will take over I've heard that some players find it difficult to take back central control when the AI is doing something.
Im into Human main. I absolutely love the internet ability and shelter ability. But I also used to main other intelligence/stealth based classes.. Octopus being my fav
Yeah and every once in a while new ones are added. The devs don't even need to do anything since the evolution system built into the game automatically generates new classes from old ones over long periods of time.
This game has so much content. Now I understand why this is game of the year 4.5 billion years in a row. I just want to see the devs keep up the good work.
You forgot to mention one of the most interesting builds in the squid section. The Cuttlefish class has one of the coolest abilities, Hypnosis, where they can stun other players by quickly fluctuating their colors. This build also has one of the highest stealth stats, because of their camouflage abilities.
I never liked Biology as a subject but your videos have been a marvellous learning experience about it without feeling bored. I thoroughly enjoyed so many of your videos, that I've watched till now, and greatly appreciate what your doing. I hope to see more from you even now and in later on!
L Fiel and CyberChamber you both sound like these kind of toxic players who insta-pick Panda Bear and keep spamming "pick human plox, I need support for the late game" or "stop stealing my bamboo spots I need to farm!!!". Dark Enforcer I would personally recommend BEE, it's not only has a good nuke and stun in form of poison sting, the ability swarm, but also has the famous and high valuable aura "pollinator" for plants, which is so good that is meta since Cretaceous. You can also opt for hard support builds and use your ability "Honey" to support humans. Well around great built, rank S.
just found this channel last year and didn't realize till now I was unsubscribed, means you were on my suggested for months. Your channels amazing and its one of the few entertaining ones atm
FlubbedPig THIS! It needs to be added, the meta currently makes microorganisms depressing to play. You spawn in and within a couple of hours some noob with a human build researches antibacterial and kills you.
I am saddened that this video didn't even talk about my favorite cephalopods, the cuttlefish. They have arguably an even higher stealth than the octopus, with high intelligence, the shapeshifting ability, and even more types of chromatophores than the octopus. I just love the little guys. They can also be selected along with squid under the ten arm subset. Another group of cephalopod that was completely skipped is the nautilus. These guys can have dozens of arms, and have *not* specced out of the armor set common to cephalopods, making them unique in that regard among cephalopods.
^^Facts.^^ The ocean meta used to be dominated by cephalopod-mains with shells for defense - if their low defense is such a weakness, why did so much of the player base ditch them? And what's the nautilus' secret?
You deserve it man you have one of the most unique kind of educational content out there that doesn't realy on cursing for a quick laugh. You are amazing and I hope you succeed even more my friend.
Some secret classes you forgot to mention: 1. Cuttlefish (Enchanter specialization, support AND assassin class) 2. Nautilus (Actual tank build, but horrible dps) 3. Scallop (Stealth class, garbage tier)
Nautilus and allonautilus are the only builds left of the once dominant nautiloid guild, played only by holdouts from the paleozoic expansion, when it was a powerhouse build. The remaining nautiloid players are the third biggest salt contributor to the marine server :P
My Octopus build just hit level 7 and unlocked the 'Terrain familiarity' feat, which gives it advantage on stealth rolls when in kelp, fine sand and coral. Needless to say, he's getting pretty damn OP...
Be careful, though. Octopus players in Tank or Aquarium-type stages often make the mistake of leaving boundaries, which can often lead to a Game Over sequence.
So, I've always wondered, was the dragon ever actually a class? I have heard many stories of when it supposedly got patched out, but I have never sctually found any evidence of it ever being there to begin with. The same goes for things like the unicorn and the chupacabra, the basilisk, and even the werewolves, even though some players claim to be werewolves. I would also like to hear your thoughts on the players who have become invasive, like wild boars. This seems like a serious matter since the boars threaten to push out low-tier players fast.
The Dragon was in the beta before being taken out for being broken. The Dinosaur clade is what is closest to. The unused class had two different types, west and east. The West Dragon had fire, high int, speed, armor, and attack. The East Dragon was similar but more bulky and slow. It used water instead.
I liked and subscribed not due to the content (even though its hilarious), but instead due to his comments at the end. He seems like he legitimately appreciates his subscribers/ viewers.
Vladimir Blagoev DUUUUDE! That actually sounds like a game I would play lol! It’s a pretty good idea and the only game I can think of that’s similar to it, at the moment, is Tokyo Jungle (but that’s not really a well known game)
bacteria servers are utterly unique. It's crazy how different the game is when you play as a bacterium, especially since many bacteria servers actually exist ON other players. You basically can play either a support class or a griefer, that can obliterate an entire server. It's almost like the devs are giving us tools to troll people with. Remember when that guy Yrsninia Pestis took out a third of the europe server? And then Tuberculosis was an absolute nightmare until people figured out how to counter it. I know of this one class, toxoplasma gondii, that can take control of a rat or mouse player, get it eaten by a cat, and then breed in the cat's gut.
TunnelDragon44 That's pretty hardcore, but it seems risky spending all your points in "reproduction" by ingestion. What if the Rat player they controlled wasn't playing in a server near cats?
Isai Baez Cats, house cats in particular, are around everywhere in the current meta, but it is definitely a very specialised build that could lose popularity if house cats are ever dethroned. Then again, house cats will be hard to dethrone as long as humans stay dominant, and the devs seem to really favor the current human meta.
Powerknolle Toffel Yeah, humans are so dominant. But I think some of the users are making Smurf accounts and playing as cow and chicken classes to feed their human buddies. I think they should get some kind of ban for that.
Nah all off the cow and chicken classes are being spawn camped by humans abusing the spawn mechanics in order to get a higher society bonus and lower their risk off getting a famine debuff
Could you talk more about the support class and what other classes supplement eachother that normally wouldnt do well on their own? thanks on advance for making these great tutorials
kondinator yeah. Discuss the way clown fish players and sea anemone players work together to bring two low tier classes into higher tiers by their teamwork Also exp and resource stealing players like the tapeworm could be good
It would be interesting to go over some of the quick dying, but fast breeding builds, like the fruit flies constantly flying into my face in my room right now. You might think that they're low tier since they die half the time just from landing in the food that they find... But their reproductive capabilities are plain impressive. Overall I think builds that have short and fragile lifespans get a bad wrap even though so many are staples in the meta.
Fruit flys are just troll characters. For example when you play as crocodile, it takes forever untill you are big so you dont wanna risk loosing your character. With fruit flys, you just make a char do some stupid and fun stuff, die and make a new one xD Many insects seem to do that. Especially houseflys. They land on your arm and when you chase them away they land on the same spot again seconds later while trashtalking in fly chat. Same with wasps only that they just sting you and die while the others laugh at the screaming human.
An ad for that "Empire of Ants" game came up before the video, and it resembled your motif so strongly I wasn't sure it wasn't part of the presentation.
Hello, i'm a beginner. Currently at level 17. Is there in anyway to lower the difficulty setting? All i see in the Game Menu is blank screen? Can someone help?!!
See everything as very easy or logical possible, and repeat the hell out of everything, our brain is fucking stupid sometimes but still extremly capable for everything. Last but not least never forget that evolution is an on going progress and starts with you!
You can download the uni dlc pack and take the engineering tree. Or there is a trades dlc pack that most people don't play any more but is super needed. Any item made by master level trades go for major coin on the live servers.
You should see my BvP gear. Its mostly old upgraded winter gear that fills up my inventory. I had to have a few BvP battles at my home waypoint. Their hives are on a pretty fast spawn timer and rng tends to put them in my main access points
sorry to mention sharks again on a different video but even though octopuses have the highest stealth in the game sharks have an ability that negates the entire stealth stat for those who have a nervous system, electroreception
4:11 Actually cephalopods used to obtain armor, and still there are cephalopod builds which have armor like nautilus and greater argonaut. But due to the release of players who can pierce through the armor like mosasaurus, sharks, and other marine reptiles, cephalopods deleted their armor and chose the stealth and mobility
A discussion on how the domestic house cat has changed the meta would be appreciated, they've clearly had a large impact on how low level players start, starting zones are now so plagued by these gankers you're forced to spec more defensively
lol thought it was an actual game on the first vid I watched so I subbed. on the second i realized it was not a game and unsubbed and about the 5th or 6th I said to myself "this is cool biology" and then I subbed again
Gotta say, had a blast playing eagle and shark builds, but I don't really like this human one. I know the Intel is high, but its so weak, and I'm still too underleveled to do anything fun.
not really, we've seen this happen with orcas and dolphins and sometimes they mess with human mains but at the end of the day humans can use a super effective move called ocean pollution and that really gives the aquatic builds a run for their money
Cuttlefish are the hybrid build gaining the stealth of octopuss and the speed of squid. However their solo PvE specialization makes them poor in PvP areas.
